No that's Chloe. She's 15 making Beth 30 or 31. Nigel is 25 (apparently) so his older sister must be 10-12 years older from those pictures? So 35 or so - like Becca the 'australian' hotel owner whose partner has packed it in - and is under the patio imo!

The daughter would have to be older than Nigel if Nigel was just a baby at the time, i think. Besides, it would probably be too much of a coincidence though to have them both live in a random small town and being friends - without knowing they were brother and sister..

Also, any thoughts on the significance of [David Tennant's character's name] having been to Broadchurch before / the seeming flashbacks?

ooh i love this thread! I've suspected Joe for a while now and can't wait for next week. I also think DT will die next week having solved both the murders leaving OC to take the role as chief dc with the tragic past. Never been a Tennant fan but I am extremely impressed!

I must have misheard DT and which laptop he was asking for.

I like the theory that DT dies leaving OC the job she wanted. Alternatively he could just take ill health retirement. I can't see OC taking the promotion though if her DH or DS is found to be the murderer.

Mayday and Broadchurch had the same production company. In Mayday it was a policewoman's husband (also a policeman) who was the murderer. It was guessed by Mumsnetters fairly quickly. Will they really do the same with Broadchurch?

I could be Tom, with his dad covering up and dumping the body, maybe, but I discounted that because of the post mortem report saying about the marks on his neck indicating a large male. Also, Tom looking pleased at seeing the skateboard. I think he was only tangentially involved.

BOF, that sounds good. I think you could be right. That could also be why Pauline Quirk's character is still convinced that Nigel was the one who put Danny's body on the beach, because from a distance Joe and Nigel look very similar... hmmm...

BOF - but the vicar mentioned to DT last night about how much bigger Tom is compared to Danny, when he was talking about the alleged fight between them. That could make him big enough to be the killer.

Maybe Tom had Dannys phone - deleting Dannys texts. Therefore the texts from Mum were from.Beth.

Quick question: The vicar told DT that Tom had threatened to say he was being abused by him if the vicar gave the police the hard-drive etc. Did Tom actually say that? I don't remember that bit of the conversation. Just wondering if vicar is trying to cover his tracks....

Having been lurking on this thread for the last few weeks - loving all the theories! I think WM is the Sandbrook Killer. There is a theory that murderers - particularly serial killers - crave the attention and notoriety. So WM is potentially following DT around with the hope that he will eventually be caught. Didn't DT suggest they had met before when you first saw WM in the police offices?

I am really impressed by the acting and characterisation in this drama (dodgy Dorset/Somerset/Bristolian hybrid accents aside).

But who has Danny's phone now? I think that is an important fact.

AFAIR we didn't see the conversation between Tom and the Vicar at all, we just saw the Vicar finding Tom smashing up the hard-drive in the woods (though god knows why he chose there, everyone in Broadchurch seems to wander round the countryside at odd times at night), then it cut away to the hut.

Just had a sneaky rewatch of some bits from last night and when Psychic Telephone man talks to DT there is a definite edge of gloating with the funny "humble pie" comment + weird psycho look as DT walks away. So I like that theory. Also, they make quite a thing of photographs of PQ's two daughters in the file DT gives Nige, so surely the surviving daughter must be walking around.

I wish they'd run the last two parts together, there are so many threads to pick up on.

We are still assuming the murderer has Danny's phone.

Though I also think it's possible they'll do a bit of "real" ghosty woo right at the end (after it has been proven that Psychic Telephone man was making up all his ghosty woo) and leave it open who made the call about intruders in the hut It feels like that kind of narrative.

I think it was the police woman's husband, I think the boys found child porn on the father's computer, that is why they argued. I decided this when the police woman said to Pauline Quirks character that you must know what goes on in your own house.
