I have been waiting for this for a very long time! :-)

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 02/09/2012 08:24

That's a better explanation than my husband's which was 'Because she thought she was human she had a human voice.'

RustyBear · 02/09/2012 08:26

I think so, that's how I remembered it, but I haven't watched it for a while. I'll have a look at the DVD when I get up, it's not one of the episodes I have on the iPad.

Another point is that Gwyneth never mentioned having a child, and she would be unlikely to be a maid in a respectable Victorian household if she was known to have one.

pickofthepops · 02/09/2012 08:34

Or ... Amy and Rory. Undo fertility following whatever was done at demons run. She sets him free, they talk last night. Rory looks like he is on a promise going into the house. Then wow, Amy pregnant. But wasn't she part converted to dalek? What if her baby is part dalek and inside the dalek ie the new companion? Has anyone done an anagram check on oswin?

RustyBear · 02/09/2012 08:35
- just over a minute in. Gwen says she's from an old Cardiff family 'back to the 1800s'

'Spacial genetic multiplicity' according to the Doctor.

Tee2072 · 02/09/2012 08:36

That's right. I remember now!

Still, my point stands that having Jenna-Louise play this Dalek girl is not the same as having Freema playing her own cousin or Eve playing her own ancestor.

I guess we'll find out for sure next year!

topknob · 02/09/2012 08:44

She is the new companion, appearing in Xmas special :) I did notice she said earlier in last nights show before we knew she was a dalek, dr asked her something and she said 'I don't know, I've not met you before' with a funny look on her face....suspicious !

RustyBear · 02/09/2012 08:44

This article is interesting - published last week, rumours from the set, especially the bit about the confusion between the new companions' first words - one person saying it's ?Rescue me boy and show me the stars.? which Oswin said yesterday and another hearing, ?Rescue me boy, and take me to the bar.?, which may be the first line in the Christmas special and would awake memories in the Doctor...

Tee2072 · 02/09/2012 08:45

She's apparently not in the Xmas special, according to my husband. Moffat lied. He's good at that....

FrankelSaysRelax · 02/09/2012 08:57

She was in Bristol the other week with the DW crew. Allegedly they were filming scenes or the Christmas Special. Who knows what we should believe!

Dylthan · 02/09/2012 09:31

Karen Gillan was on the one show on Friday and she was asked if she was in the Christmas special. She replied "no that is when Jenna-Louise comes in" Confused

MsArseBiscuit · 02/09/2012 09:54

Right, that's it, I'm de-lurking, my name is Arsebiscuit and I love Dr Who ( and I want to be River Song - I was born to be a kick-ass space-travelling archaeologist )

I was ridiculously excited about last night, there has to be complete silence while Dr Who is on ( I thought it was only me that insisted on that, I'm feeling less barking mad after reading that lots of you do the same ). I thought it was excellent, I'll be happy if Oswin does turn out to be the new companion - I like a companion who gives the Dr a run for his money.
I think Matt Smith is an outstanding Doctor, in fact I reckon he's the best since Tom Baker, he has something very alien about him ( in a good way ) I l

MsArseBiscuit · 02/09/2012 09:56

Cough, bit of temporal instability there, I liked DT but got somewhat bored of his angsty-ness towards the end.

MigratingCoconuts · 02/09/2012 10:10

One thing I think is important is a lot of the episode was about making her an enigma and also building the chemistry between the two of them.

It would really irritate me then, if she comes back as a relative or some one else altogether.

I feel certain that she comes back as this character in another time or dimension thingy.

If you can have River Song traveling in the opposite direction in time to the doctor then you can have anything!!

MigratingCoconuts · 02/09/2012 10:22

Agreed MrsA!! I found I was waiting for the tedious monologing to start up at the end of every episode and got a bit bored of it.

MsArseBiscuit · 02/09/2012 10:52

Oh god, yeah, MC, I thought it became a bit tedious and became a shortcut for ' I'm dead complicated and tortured, me' which is not to decry DT as an actor ( I thought he was an excellent DW ) or Russell T Davies's running of the show ( he deserves eternal thanks for bringing the programme back, and making such a marvellous job of it )I just felt that I knew the Doctor had a darker side without being slapped around the face with it. Part of the appeal of Doctor Who, though, is that it's very personal to people, I think you can take what you want from it.

Mrsjay · 02/09/2012 10:58

Maybe the 'Dalekness' of the voice is created by the physical speaker that produces it on the actual Dalek machine, while perhaps the comms system created the voice from a telepathic signal, which, since Oswin had obviously retained many of her original attributes, would resemble her original voice.

Or something like that.

yes this is what I was thinking honest Confused

and I do feel really old when I first saw jenna louise in a promo photo i thought good god she looks about 14 Grin

Mrsjay · 02/09/2012 11:02

well I loved DT angsty at the end of his run as the Doctor I just cried I even grieved a little ( yes i am a loon) I didn't want to like Matt Smith but I love him he is a great doctor
. DD told me that benedict cumberbatch ( is that his name) was also up for the role with Matt he wouldve been a rubbish doctor to much cheekbone for my liking Grin

MigratingCoconuts · 02/09/2012 11:03

That 's EXACTLY How I felt too!

Having seen some of the repeats of the earlier episodes that he was in, I was reminded of just how god he was as DW...because by the time Matt took over, I was really, really glad for the change.

Some of the one off specials were the worst for it!

MigratingCoconuts · 02/09/2012 11:04

Sorry mrsjay... Bit of xposting there!

MsArseBiscuit · 02/09/2012 11:25

Mrsjay, I ALWAYS cry at DW, I like to tell myself that it's because I am sensitive and capable of being moved by others' lives, although I accept that I have way too much invested in Doctor Who for a mature mother of 3.

MC, yes, weren't they ? It actually affected how much I was moved by his regeneration, despite not being convinced that MS's youth was going to allow him to be a convincing Doctor, I just wanted Dave's DW to feck right off and gaze endlessly at his god complex somewhere else entirely.

Mrsjay · 02/09/2012 11:27

DTs Doctor did not have a god complex he just cared too much Grin

FrankelSaysRelax · 02/09/2012 11:56

Benedict Cumberbatch never auditioned for the role of the Doctor. Matt Smith auditioned for the role of John Watson in Sherlock and on the back of that audition Stephen Moffat asked him to audition for Doctor Who [Cumberbatch nerd].

We know the Dalek voice is caused by the unit they are incased in, because we've heard Dalek Khan speak. Yes he's shrill and otherworldly, but it's not the same voice.

MsArseBiscuit · 02/09/2012 11:59

Yes, he did care too much, Mrsjay, it just got on my baps - but that's a reflection on me and my heart of pure granite Smile

Cakebot · 02/09/2012 12:11

I agree! I was a bit bored of the navel gazing and gurning by the end. MS has his gurning moments, but I think he's just fab. He was The Doctor to me as soon as he did his monologue when he regenerated.
My DH said he thought Oswin was in some sort of machine, not actually changed into the slug type dalek thingy. What if she teleported into the TARDIS with the rest of them, and she's lost there until the Christmas special?

Mrsjay · 02/09/2012 12:32

for the role of John Watson in Sherlock and on the back of that audition Stephen Moffat asked him to audition for Doctor Who [Cumberbatch nerd].

ahh ok I will tell her her information was wrong Grin
