Ben is not looking good...

KatyMac · 15/09/2012 19:45

It just occurred to me, the doctor looks like a cross between Kryton & Data (they both did Cowboy episodes too)

Tee2072 · 15/09/2012 20:03

Not the cheeriest episode ever...

ColouringIn · 15/09/2012 20:18

I quite enjoyed it...

Tee2072 · 15/09/2012 20:20

That was...odd...

And I'm tired of Doctor Who Morality Plays...

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 15/09/2012 20:20

Ultra cheesy and tbh a bit boring.

Doctor sends Solomon to his death in the last episode and very nearly sent Jenks to his too. Smacks of the God complex returning.

snapespeare · 15/09/2012 20:28

Rory. Pants. Thank you licence fee.

Angels take Manhattan ...

Chances of THIS featuring?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/09/2012 20:46

I liked the gunslinger, good old fashioned sci fi.

OodHousekeeping · 15/09/2012 20:48

Next week looking interesting.

OodHousekeeping · 15/09/2012 20:49

Ooh creepy eco

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 15/09/2012 21:17

chances are high, i reckon. dd1 watched the trail and immediately squeaked 'THE STATUE OF LIBERTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY'.

LetUsPrey · 15/09/2012 22:12

Enjoyed that one. Love that the Doctor speaks horse!

It went from bit jokey to serious, which I liked.

Get me, I should write reviews professionally.

Pixel · 15/09/2012 22:57

The Doctor on a horse, what's not to like? Smile

confuddledDOTcom · 15/09/2012 23:20

Just finished watching it (two hour journey "leave in time to be back for Doctor Who" he said, took us about five hours, his poorly knee isn't impressed I did offer to drive but he didn't think it was a good way to practiceGrin) I'm not sure about that episode. Slightly boring, bit quick, where's "our" Doctor gone? Blowing up Solomon last week was an "us or him" situation, but more blowing up??? What about that big "Make the foundation of this society a man who never would" speech 10 made??? Even the daleks commented on him never using weapons. But now he seems quite angry and seems to want to hit people.

Arcadie · 15/09/2012 23:51

Dull Dull Dull. And completely baffled to discover that the Gunslinger WASN'T Robert Glenister but actually Karen Gillan's Boyfriend..... I was so sure it was him. Totally with Tee that the Morality Plays are getting tedious. Bring Back River Song.

Hello everyone - posting late due to watching late because of RL. I know, shite planning!

Anyway.. to tonight's ep: fairly obvious, really, wasn't it? Quite cliched, almost. But imperfect Doctor Who is still better than most of the dross on TV these days and it was diverting enough.

I kind of expect more from Toby Whithouse, though, but perhaps it's hard writing a good standalone ep when everything is building to a particular climax in just a couple of eps. Compared with School Reunion, Vampires of Venice and God Complex it seemed a bit more Dr-Who-by-numbers.

Agree with Tee and others the whole morality thing is really being shoved down our throats. And no doubt will play a big part in ep 5. What if either Amy or Rory dies and the other asks the Doctor to go back in time so they can save them, and the Doctor says he cannot because he isn't allowed to re-write time? His morality is his prison, as Jax said tonight.

And the doctor threatening someone with a pistol? Ready to leave someone to their deathly fate? Really? Mmmm, interesting. Like confuddled said, what about the man who said he never would? OK so he didn't in the end, but he was nearly there. And is this really to show us how much he needs a human companion to stop him doing the wrong thing? Slight echos of Donna there. And look how that turned out.

Anyone else think that Amy might live (just long enough) to regret that speech about how the doctor should not kill (or leave to their deaths) aliens responsible for many deaths?

The other quip from Amy was interesting tonight, too - "All our friends are going to start realising we're aging faster than them." It's the first time anyone has said something like that regarding their time in the tardis. I wonder if that will come back to bite her somehow.

Interesting point Eleanor re the explosions at the end of every ep so far.

Also a recurring theme of self -sacrifice so far this series - Neffi, Oswin, now Jex. So taking all the above into consideration, ever feel like Rolf Harris is standing in the background saying "Can you predict what the eppy 5 plot is yet??" Grin

teejwood · 16/09/2012 00:42

Christ, sorry for stream of consciousness essay there. Too much Wine

Jux · 16/09/2012 00:50

Very dull, even dd was not amused. Heavy handed, inelegant morality play. I suspect most actors want to be a cowboy at least once in their career, so now Matt Smith has been and the Doctor never has to do it again; at least, we don't ever have to be subjected to it.

I hate Riversong (I think I've said that before) and I'm not sure that even Mr Smith has a strong enough pull on me to make me watch this if RS returns. I do like Rory and Amy, though I know you lot don't rate the latter.

Vagaceratops · 16/09/2012 07:40

I thought it was just really weird. like someone wrote a western sci-fi and they slipped the Doctor in.

Do you think that Dalek girl erasing memory of him has taken something away from his personality? I remember a great part in Genesis of the Daleks where Tom Baker has the chance to kill the daleks in the laboratory and he doesnt, but gives a very heartfelt speech, so its a massive turn around.

I tried looking at the bit where the Gunslinger was scanning The Doctor to prove my theory that Olwen has done something to him to make him forgotten, but it was too small. However I notice that in bothe episodes 2 and 3, they have known his as a Doctor rather than the Doctor.

Vagaceratops · 16/09/2012 07:41

make him forgotten

Sorry for the terrible grammar, but you get what I mean

Blush
Vagaceratops · 16/09/2012 07:42

And the actual Doctor in last nights episode didnt know who he was either, did he?

SoupDragon · 16/09/2012 07:44

There were a few high points in an otherwise poor episode. Speaking horse was one of them - didn't he do this in the Mme Pompador episode too>
