I have been waiting for this for a very long time! :-)

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 16/09/2012 07:46

Has anyone managed to zoom in and read the Wanted posters?

Tee2072 · 16/09/2012 08:42

It was just a very poor episode.

teejwood · 16/09/2012 10:15

To me, it felt like Toby Whithouse had been told: "We need a,b,c, and x, y and z things to happen in this episode because we are building up to the mid-season break" and he was hamstrung trying to write a compelling episode around that. I was going to say 'or maybe he just had a bad day at the office' but then remembered that the Moff would have reviewed and edited the script. So I think it's what the Moff wanted tbh.

I love RiverSong - can't wait for her to come back Grin

SESthebrave · 16/09/2012 10:16

I didn't really enjoy last night's episode either but I'm still wondering whether the Dr was affected by the nano cloud in the asylum Confused

teejwood · 16/09/2012 10:41

SES I have wondered if the doctor is trying out what he is and who he is when unburdened by his name and all the accompanying history/connotations. What would happen in the Cybermen saw him, though? How could Oswin have wiped the doctor from everything when she was just connected into the Dalek's systems. Is the implication that all other tech is based on Dalek systems at some level?

About the nano cloud - I have wondered if Amy is still infected? The bracelet was meant to stop you getting infected but was it clear it would stop and eradicate any existing infection? Maybe that is why the doctor keeps shooting her worried glances - he worries there is a ticking timebomb inside Amy - a bit like a single cancerous cell that can eventually multiply and kill the host.

Otherwise his actions reek of someone who has prior knowledge of what is to come - and maybe that was one of the clues in PondLife - that he was visiting them in the wrong order and so knows how it will all play out?

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 16/09/2012 10:42

oh blardy hell, that would be interesting... if he is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly becoming a dalek and that's why his dander is up so much?

Fiderer · 16/09/2012 11:01

It was odd. Last week (Dinosaurs) I thought it was a daft story but fun, this one could have been an interesting story but was done badly. To start with, the Doctor aiming for Mexico but ending up not just miles but presumably years out without any explanation. Did I miss a reference to a TARDIS malfunction or does it lock onto alien activity even if it's centuries away?

That's a small point but highlights the (to me) random nature of it. Worst part, the Doctor taking a gun and aiming it at someone, not even in the heat of anger, and having to be called on it by Amy - very odd indeed.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 16/09/2012 11:03

the tardis often doesn't take him where he wants to go, but where he needs to go...

teejwood · 16/09/2012 11:09

Actually - the doctor's mollecular biology changed by the nano-cloud so he is not recognised as the doctor is way more likely than Oswin managing to delete him from every identification system in the galaxy.

A couple of other things from last night - the combination of stetson and being 1200 years of age; how does that fit with the events of last series?

Also - hated the use of the word decimate to describe destroying half the planet

Sigh - RL beckons. Will watch again later with the dcs and see if I can spot anything else.....

Tee2072 · 16/09/2012 11:20

He does mention toast crumbs in the console and Rory looks guilty.

Fiderer · 16/09/2012 11:24

Aitch True, I may be a bit picky on the Tardis bit. It just did seem misplaced as an episode to me. Great fun to be had with classic/stereotyped Western stuff but didn't really work. The townspeople didn't seem that freaked out by it all.

Maybe we've (I've) become too used to the "big arc" stories and are now unduly critical of such episodes.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 16/09/2012 11:24

hahahaha i actually shouted out loud at 'decimate'. veeeeeeeeeeeery surprised that the Moff let that slip, he's always struck me as quite pedantic.

OodHousekeeping · 16/09/2012 11:25

A couple of other things from last night - the combination of stetson and being 1200 years of age; how does that fit with the events of last series?

Interested in this as I can't remember.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 16/09/2012 11:26

what i hated about yesterday's was the voiceover, i generally think if you need to use a voiceover, you're not telling the story well enough.

and there is more voiceover to hate coming up.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 16/09/2012 11:26

i wondered about the stetson as well... whether it was even our timeline doctor who had picked amy and rory up, iykwim?

Fiderer · 16/09/2012 11:26

Tee 'toast crumbs'- ah yes. So he did. But really?

Fiderer · 16/09/2012 11:29

Mentioning his age and the stetson was a Clue with a capital C, surely? Also Amy's ref to ageing? Didn't know what she meant, tbh. Anyone?

Thingiebob · 16/09/2012 11:32

I am behind having just watched the Dinosaurs on a Spaceship episode.

Wtaf? Have I missed an epsiode? Why was it so dire? I left half way through to shout at my DH.

Thingiebob · 16/09/2012 11:33

Actually refusing to read the thread above as don't want to have any spoilers about next ep but felt the need to post something about dinosaur episode.

Tee2072 · 16/09/2012 11:43

I missed the reference to his age but did think Amy's reference to it was very odd. No other companion has ever mentioned it but, then again, no other companion has ever jumped on and off the TARDIS quite so much, I don't think.

Geekster · 16/09/2012 12:08

I'm really enjoying this latest series. It's so much better than having those convoluted story arcs that I thought over the last series in particular took over the episodes too much. Will be interesting to see what the other DWAS members think of it.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 16/09/2012 12:22

oooooooooooh i just wrote a BIG BIG post about what i don't understand about the aging thing... that i now realise was chock full of mahoosive spoilers for the next episode. look forward to having that conversation with you next week, chaps.

SESthebrave · 16/09/2012 12:23

But Geekster but I think there is a convoluted story arc Grin

I'm glad my nano cloud theory sounds a possibility as I'm not normally very good at coming up with theories. Normally too Confused

Geekster · 16/09/2012 12:31

Okay There may be a convoluted story arc but at least it's not in your face and doesn't have entire episodes written around it to the detriment of individual stories.

confuddledDOTcom · 16/09/2012 12:36

The ageing thing is like the Ponds said, they have two lives, a real life and a Doctor life. Whilst they have a real life he's off having 100s of years of fun, when they have a Doctor life he drops them back where they left off but a few days/ weeks/ months older. Eventually it's going to add up. I used to think Rose had the opposite problem, going away for less time than she was gone for.
