I have been waiting for this for a very long time! :-)

Argh, forgot about the university! So she must be there for a good 5 or 6 years to get her doctorate, before the Silence take her to "kill" the Doctor. So we can estimate that she is River for at least, say, 8 years.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 07/09/2012 11:03

yes, that's also true about the uni... why the fark does river go to study rather than just try to get hold of him through any of the ways that presumably she has in her blue notebook? i mean, i know students are famously selfish but you'd think that she'd be at least curious to spend time with her folks. or is she so jaded that she doesn't care about the fact that they have only just met her?

FrankelSaysRelax · 07/09/2012 11:19

The Doctor gave her the blue notebook in the hospital, she fills it up whilst studying archeology to learn more about him.

Agreed though, you'd think she'd try and track her parents down.

[has a think]

On the other hand, she's obviously somewhere in the future [cat people, hello!] so maybe she doesn't have a timeywimey thing yet so can't travel back to see her folks.

[needs a lie down]

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 07/09/2012 11:49

yes that's true, i guess... she might be stuck in her own timeline.

Tee2072 · 07/09/2012 12:23

::head explodes::

gallifrey · 07/09/2012 12:27

Really like Matt but the best Doctor by miles is David Tennant :)

cakebot · 07/09/2012 17:28

There are DVD extra's called 'night and the Doctor' in the S6 box set. It one of them, it says that River has been in prison for 5 years, and this is only halfway through. The next part is on the last meeting with the Doctor before her death, which is a few years further on. I get the feeling she has spent a very long time with him. I hope they fill in the gap between Melody regenerating i New York and Mels in Leadworth, but also the gap between the beginning of Series 5 when she is in prison and a Dr and Series 4 when she dies, she isn't in prison and is a professor. It wouldn't be hard. They could do her complete life story in one episode! I will be very cross if they don't!

pickofthepops · 07/09/2012 23:13

Did anyone else think... The mum of new 'panion' (as my DS calls companions) Clara/oswin had v red hair and looked like Amy ... Similar nose. I wonder if she is related to amy /river ??

GlaikitFizzog · 08/09/2012 00:15

was she her mum though? im not sure she was.

pickofthepops · 08/09/2012 05:25

No I just mean she looked like Amy hair and nose particularly.

cakebot · 08/09/2012 06:56

The daughter of the red haired woman was called Hanna, so i don't know how that relates to anything. She seems to have been completely forgotten in the whole plot, and she was the reason the doctor went there in the first place!

RustyBear · 08/09/2012 07:48

Don't think she was forgotten, she was a human/Dalek who served her purpose by getting the Doctor to the Daleks. Though it's qite possible that she or her daughter in the Dalek prison camp will turn up again - you can never be sure with Moffat.

Fiderer · 08/09/2012 08:22

I thought it was sad when the Doctor says to her on the ship "But you have a daughter" and she replies, "I know, I looked in my personnel file".

Some cracking work on River here. I've always wondered about the Mel story too.

Tee2072 · 08/09/2012 09:40

On at 735 tonight all.

Oh how I hate that they just can't seem to pick a time!

MammyToMany · 08/09/2012 10:04

I've just watched an old one (something like Dont touch the water) with Adalaide Brooke. He really did get a God complex in the end - maybe all the resentment and feelings of his life being unfair came bubbling over. I can see why it was the right time for DT to leave although at the time I was gutted.

snapespeare · 08/09/2012 11:38

Very excited! Dinosaurs! On! A! Spaceship! Have taken to walking around saying would you like milk! In! Your! Tea! Or it's time! To! Go! Shopping! Etc.

I also say 'I know' in a bit of a smug Matt smithy way...

OP posts:
cakebot · 08/09/2012 13:24

But the Dalek/Human was called Oswin, not Hanna, unless in her dream world she has just picked a name she fancied?

Fiderer · 08/09/2012 13:31

The Dalek-puppet woman who somehow called the doctor for help with her daughter (Hannah) in a Dalek prison camp, did in fact have a daughter (ref to her personnel file). Whether the daughter ever was in a camp is not clear - but the whole "calling the Doctor for help" ploy was a trap.

The use of her daughter was presumably to make the trap-story more believable if the Doctor checked up on it.

confuddledDOTcom · 08/09/2012 14:28

snapespeare they were subtitling like that with last weeks episode. "Doc! Tor! Who!"
