Is anyone else addicted to Pointless?

I'm horridly addicted to Pointless. I have it on series link and watch it at night whenever DH is away. I desperately want to be on the show, I even applied. Am I a sad git?

DP and I play remotely if one of us is on a train/passenger in a car. We text the questions so the traveller can play to pass the time Blush

Does anybody else think that Richard (the pointless friend) looks like the guy from the hangover films (the one who lost his tooth in the first film)

becclestown · 20/02/2012 22:36

OK. I spent NYE on YouTube watching old episodes in order to write my own Pointless quiz for that evening's festivities.
Things Rick Astley is Never Gonna Do, Superhero Sidekicks & Sit-Com Bars were some of my chosen categories.

notpodd · 20/02/2012 22:37

We also attempt University Challenged. I only ever get the biology questions and the music round if they do modern music. DH is much better at it than me, much to my annoyance Envy because clearly I am cleverer than him

richard?

Hangover?

notpodd · 20/02/2012 22:44

Pointless for NYE> You rock! But for the record, about 50 posts ago, we found out there is a board game. Just in case you want to make things easier next time...

I looooove Pointless. I watch it while cooking tea for the DC then challenge DH to get the final question - he actually managed it today Shock. I also regale him with tales of awe inspiring ignorance (Charles de Gaulle?!) and in extreme circumstances (Sebastiab Faulks) make him watch the best bits on iPlayer.

PastGrace · 20/02/2012 22:47

I applied for my university team for University Challenge. For the audition I was asked questions for 3 minutes. I answered 4. Out of 22.

I didn't make the team.

DilysPrice · 20/02/2012 22:56

I was on my college team for University Challenge. We were rubbish, and, more importantly, because I'm an old gimmer it was during the period when it wasn't on telly.

PuggyMum · 20/02/2012 23:03

We love it! Don't get in from work on time so we watch on catch up and play against each other!
Sad I know!!

becclestown · 21/02/2012 07:33

cheers @ notpodd

Who dya think wrote the board game eh?

I wish..! But that's next birthday sorted.

EmmaCate · 21/02/2012 07:35

Me! Not even a hidden pleasure; DH has to endure it when he comes from work (it's my also Series Linked, 'you've got the children to bed' treat before having to start on tea).

Also have crush on Richard and 'Xander'. Also applied with my Dad... (you never know notpodd our applications may be held over!).

Watership Down rabbits was my best; two pointlesses with Captain Campion and Hyzenthlay. I too would love Pink Floyd, or Tolkein characters. And I bet we'd all love ITNG characters (unless yours are all old).

notpodd · 21/02/2012 09:53

Respect to the people who were on UC!

Regarding ITNG - Do you think they'd be a way of showing off knowing the difference between the ninky-nonk and the pinky-ponk?

OP posts:
EmmaCate · 21/02/2012 09:59

Not so much actually... I was thinking about knowing the lesser spotted characters, such as the Wottingers, or the lesser mentioned, such as the Tittifers. Although latter would be more appropriately called the 'discordant, freak-plumage birds' IMO...

LikeAnAdventCandleButNotQuite · 21/02/2012 10:03

I am totally addicted to it. My DH could not understand, but after a week of making him watch it during dinner he's secretly hooked too.

It's got to the point where I'll hear a vaguely interesting fact and think 'hmmm...best store that up incase it comes up on Pointless"

I have allready decided that the single topic I would sail through would be very specifically Hogwarts Teachers and Their Subjects. Don't think it will ever come up though.

DH and I take turns and count up our points.

Am in love with Richard and his witty ways.

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 10:09

I ws on Eggheads. They'll let anyone on that, as long as you've got jolly tops to wear. The make up ladies made me look fab. They said they normally get teams of five bald blokes coming through the make up room and so they liked playing with my hair and eyes.

Pointless is brilliant. I think Richard and Alexander are so sweet together. Bery bromancey.

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 10:10

Very not bery. FFS.

notpodd · 21/02/2012 10:15

There is a bit of a bromance going on isn't there - the odd personal joke too. I think they hangout together after to the show...

OP posts:
Ponders · 21/02/2012 11:14

they were at university together so they go back a loooong way

LineRunner · 21/02/2012 11:18

I like it when Richard says, 'Well done to you at home.' I smile back at him.

notpodd · 21/02/2012 14:26

Do we all know the story about how Richard came to have that job? Its a great story.

OP posts:
LineRunner · 21/02/2012 14:30

Pray, do tell. Smile

2ombie5layer · 21/02/2012 14:32

I heard (well DH told me) that he has done a lot behind the scenes for other shows (Ive seen his names in the credits for winter wipeout with Richard Hammond) and he came up with the idea of pointless and no-one else would do his bit so he stepped in.

MyMelody · 21/02/2012 14:38

yes do tell notpodd - love pointless in this house its brilliant!

notpodd · 21/02/2012 14:38

Yup - that's pretty much it. He is actually normally in production, but played his role when they pitched it to the bosses, intending to cast someone else to do it if the show was picked up, but the bosses liked him so much in his role they agreed to only make the show if Richard agreed to be the pointless friend.
