Have started new thread, will be watching last night episode today and will report back.

Yes, all of a sudden they seem to have come across a lot more people.
Did anyone from the original group (ie not herscel's family) die in that attack?

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2012 07:48

Ooh I've just got the prison. Yes, they should be fine. Unless all the guards became walkers?

JKSLtd · 25/03/2012 07:54

I don't think so, Otis' wife (Patricia?), Jimmy (who was he? a farmhand?), anyone else?
They lost Andrea as far as they are concerned I suppose.

I was thinking that a prison would be a nice secure place but not necessarily very good to live in sustainably long-term. Though maybe a huge American prison might grow it's own crops?

Then got thinking in the middle of the night, as you do. Maybe a medieval castle in this country might work.
Need to ask the NT card holders. Does anywhere still exist with secure outer walls, maybe even inner walls too. With enough space inside to grow some crops & with its own water supply?
Maybe even with a moat?

Also then got thinking more; would walkers know you were in there? (smell, sight, sounds) and would they wait on the other side of the moat indefinitely?
Or would they pile on top of each other endlessly to get in? IN which case, the moat would fill up with them and they'd heap up outside the walls so it still wouldn't be secure.
Would electric fences keep them out?

See, it's not the gore that keeps me awake, just the planning Grin

Hoody Woman will sort out Carl's disciplinary issues a treat.

wintera · 25/03/2012 08:15

I was always on the fence about Lori as she didn't bug me as much as Andrea but oh my god, what a dumb bitch! That's what I meant when I posted about inconsistencies and contradictions. Just a few episodes ago, Lori was doing a Lady Macbeth in Rick's ear. Shane is dangerous, he wants me, he thinks the baby is his, blah blah blah. Then she's giving Shane hope the baby is his and nearly getting her husband killed. Then she's 'oh not sure I like my husband anymore, maybe I did care for Shane'. Argh!!!

limitedperiodonly · 25/03/2012 08:18

jks I read a short story when I was 13 about an invasion of billions of ants that were eating everything alive.

One man hoped to wait it out by standing his bed legs in dishes of paraffin which repelled the ants. But then the ants formed chains and walked over the bodies of their buddies...

That's stayed with me ever since.

wintera · 25/03/2012 08:23

Regarding the ones that died - I think young jimmy who died in the rv was also the boyfriend of Herschel's younger daughter. Think her name is Beth if I'm not mistaken.

limitedperiodonly · 25/03/2012 08:35

You could surround yourself with some kind of mutilating obstacle course and just let the zombies incapacitate themselves so they wouldn't be able to get to you or would be easier to destroy when they did.

You'd have to use something that would cause a lot of damage but that they could limp over so the zombies following behind couldn't walk over the bodies unharmed.

Don't really know what what might be.

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2012 08:45

If I go to bed will someone wake me on first september?

aliciaflorrick · 25/03/2012 09:52

I've been thinking like JKS and in my middle of the night lying awake I decided I'd drive to a castle about 15 miles away, 2 of its sides are on a tall cliff and there is a big stone wall surrounding it. Enough space inside to grow food and there must be a well for water because it's next to a river. I was just worried that by the time I got there they might not let me in.

Then last night we went to a friend's house and they were shooting targets with an air rifle, I normally refuse to shoot the gun, until DH reminded me I'd need to shoot the zombies in an attack. So I gave it a go and missed.

rainonwater · 25/03/2012 10:03

Ooooo really enjoyed this one - I even had to get up and check I had locked the back door half way through and don't think I have any nails left.

Although I couldn't help thinking though how bloody unorganised they all were. Why didn't they have the vehicles fully stocked with ammo, extra fuel and supplies in case they ever needed to make a sharp exit? Also (IMVHO) they should have had a secondary location identified and fully stocked that everyone knew about so that if they ever got split up they would all know where to go to meet. And, well, they should have just had a plan! I mean, it's not as if they didn't know they were living in a world now occupied with zombies!

Hoody woman looks great, looking forward to seeing what happens with her. Lori needs a slap with a wet fish. Daryl rocks, Rik is still great and I can totally understand why he is getting pissed off with the lot of them moaning everytime he does something (that keeps them safe and saves their lives)

I mentioned on the other thread about the Carrie Ryan books. IIRC there was a cult who worshipped the undead, they would lead them around on chains as if they were pets, they also removed the lower jaws so they couldn't be bitten.

wintera · 25/03/2012 10:27

Have found the Inside the walking dead episode for the finale if anyone wants to watch it. Don't watch if you haven't seen the episode though! It will spoil it for you!

susiedaisy · 25/03/2012 10:39

Great link wintera thanks

I know stealth the autumn seems sooo far away!

PfftTheMagicDraco · 25/03/2012 10:49

It's incredibly annoying that they have all been so useless, but then, I think it's realistic. How many people would actually be useful in such a situation? I imagine the constant whinging and the fighting and the not knowing what to do would actually happen in a zombie apocalypse.

I think that in theory the farm was a good place to stay - open land around so you can see what's coming (if you actually use your eyes and ears rather than ignoring a herd of walkers), food production and decent facilities. If they hadn't left the farm every five minutes for some ridiculous reason, and fortified it properly, and not just with a shitty fence that I could have made stronger, they probably could have survived there for a good while. But then, that wouldn't make much of a show...

wintera · 25/03/2012 10:56

Just watching the episode again and is it just me or were some of those Walkers at the beginning of the ep really shit actors? Seriously, they need to go to Zombie school or something, some of them were just walking normally etc. They need this:-

Or am I just being picky??!! Smile

JKSLtd · 25/03/2012 10:57

Also I wonder did they really have to leave the farm? Given its plus points.
Disadvantage of wooden frame houses I suppose- once the walkers knew you were there the numbers would trash the house.
But what if they didn't know - could you hide upstairs and the her would pass on through? Obv tricky given rick an Carl were known about.
What about a basement? Americans always seem to have them Grin

anonacfr · 25/03/2012 11:18

Youd have to destroy all staircases and stay on the upper floors with a ladder to escape by window if zombies managed to create a zombie staircase.

I agree that their lack of preparation was shit. And for someone who's lived in the area all his life Herschel was the worst- couldn't he tell them about the huge motherfucking JAIL that's about a mile away? And couldn't they get spare petrol from the dozens of cars that are abandoned along the way? And can't Daryl find himself a quieter and more fuel efficient way of going round?

Eggrules · 25/03/2012 13:17

YYYYYIIIIIIIIIKKKKEEEESSSSS
I loved it but it has put me right off camping.

Helicopter started the zombie migration.

Off to watch webisodes.

I heart TWD

Eggrules · 25/03/2012 13:18

PS get Lori a bobble or clippers.

wintera · 25/03/2012 13:46

Yes Lori has crazy hair tis true. But the big questions regarding hair are these, why isn't Carol's hair growing more? And why hasn't Andrea's roots grown out more? You're not telling me that blonde hair is natural. Or did Glenn pick up a pack of Nice and Easy when he was on a pharmacy run . . . . .

susiedaisy · 25/03/2012 16:00

What helicopter? I must of missed that bit!

OP posts:
anonacfr · 25/03/2012 16:18

The very first episode of the series when Rick arrived in Atlanta he saw a helicopter flying over the city. Beginning of this episode there was a flashback to that scene. Random zombies were feeding on a body, they heard the noise of the helicopter and started to follow it. That created a growing migrating group of zombies who happened to be passing the farm when Carl shot Shane- hence their attack on the farm.

Eggrules · 25/03/2012 16:38

^ what anonacfr said. Butterfly effect Wink

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2012 16:59

Yes I thouht initially that if they spli up they'd all agreed to meet back at the car where they left the message for sophia, but it seems they didn't. What an oversight - I could ahve thought of that one!
