Have started new thread, will be watching last night episode today and will report back.

I loved the bar scene. The guy drew on Rick first and his friend was bound to shoot if Rick did, so it was entirely justified. Good to see Rick-the-badass back in action Grin. I'm just annoyed that they stole my what-I-would-do-in-Rick's-situation of heading for somewhere like Nebraska or the Dakotas..very few zombies and lots of space, guns and game to hunt.

Shane has enormous earlobes. Noticed this last night and found it very difficult to concentrate on the rest of the plot.

anonacfr · 21/02/2012 11:16

Shit I'm going to be staring at his ears the whole time now.

In the first ever episode the father mentioned to Rick that bites and scratches cause infection. Why would Beth suddenly run a fever from shock? She has to be infected.
I reckon she's going to eat some of the farm people- either Glen's GF so that he'll leave with the group or Herschel and Otis' wife so that Glen's GF will have no choice but to follow the group.

JKS pedantic zombie lore, but according to World War Z islands are not necessarily a great place to go- zombies can walk on sea beds and invade out of nowhere. Unless you can set up safety nets all around the island it would be rather dodgy. Considering our survivors couldn't even protect their camping site, there is no way they could man a whole island.

A farm type self sufficient camp with perimeter is actually a good idea.

I had a long arguement on FB once with a mate of mine about whether zombies could walk underwater or not... This followed the same arguement with DH!!

Hi everyone, just got round to watching last night, catching up on thread now.

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 13:12

I really recognised the actor who played the main 'baddie' in the bar, anyone know where from?

I agree somewherewest, the other guy was going to shoot first leaving Rick no choice. I wonder if they have friends who'll come to get revenge?

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 13:19

Found him, he was in True Blood.

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 13:24

Have just seen 'Tony', the big guy in the bar, is in the cast list for next weeks episode, does that mean he wasn't killed when Rick shot him do you think? Or maybe he isn't quite dead and gets turned into a zombie somehow?

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 13:25

Or maybe he just plays a dead body Grin.

limitedperiodonly · 21/02/2012 13:37

Do zombies need to breathe? If not, they could exist underwater but I think the biggest problem is that they'd float. Especially the riper ones. I suppose they could hold hands and form an enormous deadly raft and catch their prey by drifting like jelly fish.

I think Beth is infected, or she should be. Being scratched by a zombie would be dangerous because infected gunk could get in the wound.

If I was dealing with zombies I'd wear protective clothing because their body fluids would spew on you in a fine, or not so fine, mist and you'd inhale it or get it in cuts or your eyes.

Remember the poor old dad in 28 Days Later? Probably the only black cab driver I've ever felt sorry for.

susiedaisy · 21/02/2012 14:56

Yes I remember that cab driver just one drop of infected blood in his eye was enough to turn him, although in those films they turned immediately

True about the possibility of them walkin underwater, was going on the book I've just finished (name escapes me & on phone so can't scroll & post) when they didn't (though there was one floating by the dock).

Stilla · 21/02/2012 16:35

Oh bloody hell ! thought it started this Friday ....... I'm off to check 'catch up'.

somewherewest · 21/02/2012 16:57

The underwater zombies in World War Z didn't work for me. It just seemed too improbable (yes even more improbable then flesh-eating undead people generally Grin).

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 17:10

I think they can go in water, the one in the well seemed to be doing OK, and didn't one attack Daryl in the river, I'm sure I remember it emerging from beneath the water but my memory is pretty crap!

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 17:20

Nope, just found the scene on youtube, it all happens out of the water on the river bank, my memory is indeed rubbish.

WizardofOs · 21/02/2012 17:27

There was in the well though. Was he underwater or was his head above...

JKSLtd · 21/02/2012 17:31

I thought his head was above the water in the well?

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 17:39

Can't believe I'm researching this as if I'm going to find cold hard facts Hmm, but this is from this website.

"Floaters are zombies that became bloated after spending a long period of time in water. It was first encountered by the survivors at Hershel's Farm where it was found trapped in a well. Fearing that shooting the floater might result in polluting the well the survivors decide to pull it out. This proves to be futile as it gets stuck on the lip and splits in half, the bottom part of its body (and most of its innards) falling back into the well."

So, it looks as if rather than walking under water they would indeed bob along floating on top!

notyummy · 21/02/2012 17:42

Am sniggering at how sad we all all Grin

notyummy · 21/02/2012 17:43

But how are you ever going to be able to develop a Zombie Action plan if you haven't studied the enemy? Eh?

JKSLtd · 21/02/2012 17:49

So they might float to my island then, hmm not ideal.

But whatever perimeter you have you'll have to defend it somehow - even a really strong electric fence would give way under enough walkers i would think.

AWimbaWay · 21/02/2012 18:01

Can't imagine them floating very fast, so probably quite easy to pick em off with a gun should one come bobbing towards your island JKS.

JKSLtd · 21/02/2012 18:21

Hmm but once their feet touched ground would they be able to walk again? So therefore could arrive at any time. Not good.

limitedperiodonly · 21/02/2012 18:32

I've been thinking about this.

They could swim. Not terribly well, diving and synchro would be out of the question because of gaseous flotation, but doggy-paddle at least.

You could probably avoid them in the water unless it was a shoal of them or Rebecca Adlington became a zombie.
