I was quite proud of her that she refused ve, even though she was being pressurized, if she had it, it may have interupted the flow of labour, made her tense and stressed etc. Many older people can't stand up to the professionals about their own wishes in labour. And considering she went from 4cm to 9cm in a short time, what made them think she wasn't fully dilated? I've given birth with no ve. And recently while acting as a birth partner I noticed on the recording that every time ve was done contractions stopped speeding up and the strength decreased.

everlong they are different as one is someone else who is not particularly close to her assuming something, whereas the other is coming from the girl herself.

Maybe she meant "not allowed to smoke while pregnant", rather than "not allowed to smoke while actually in labour"?

EirikurNoromaour · 05/02/2012 18:54

Does it matter if she smokes or not? She probably does but does that mean she deserves a full page spread in the daily heil? Poor girl. Millions of women smoke during pregnancy, teenage to 40odd, 10th unplanned pregnancy to much wanted ivf baby. Yeah it's stupid and selfish but it isn't unusual or the preserve of the young and feckless.

LoveInAColdClimate · 05/02/2012 19:04

I totally agree, Eirikur, I just wondered if that might what she had meant (and she was probably a bit busy getting a baby out of her fanjo at the time to enter into a detailed discussion on the subject Grin).
