Anyone watching?

Agree that villagers were awful and gardener was lovely and was also amazed at how ineffectual the clinical psychologist was.
I also know a hoarder - not as bad as this though but applies the same sort of logic to why things need to be kept.

Sparklingbaubles · 22/12/2011 15:27

I think the oddest thing was that the neighbours wanted to be on the TV show at all. If you haven't got anthing nice to say.......etc

I always wonder with programmes like that how they pitch it to the interviewees being set up as the Hyacinth Buckets. Do they give them the whole story, or do they just say, 'Oh, hello, we're doing a documentary about Britain in Bloom villages, and how hard it is to get people to tidy up their gardens - it must be a terribly exhausting thing to organise...' then prod them into more and more Bucket-y observations, which are then edited to bits for 'good television'.

I really wanted to know what happened afterwards, then felt a bit guilty at the way television conditions you to expect everything neatly tied up in 60 mins, when in fact Richard's only just started to deal with some huge, maybe unresolvable, issues.

Loved Andy the gardener.

coccyx · 22/12/2011 16:18

I want to marry the landscape gardener.

wheredidiputit · 22/12/2011 16:56

Andy was lovey and although being a bit bossy he never overstepped the mark and Richard go at his own pace but with lots of encouragement.

I do hope they can continue and help Live his life as fully as he can.

ipodrage · 22/12/2011 18:33

coccyx, I bagsied him first.

Does anyone know if/when it will be repeated?

Jacinda · 22/12/2011 20:56

Hello lovely netmums. I have just got to hijack this thread to let you all know that here in my little village of westcott I'm feeling really quite sad. I along with several of the other WESTCOTT villagers, cook meals for those in need of assistance. I Cooked for lovely Richard Wallace only the other day. Not for tv recognition or even any praise or thanks from anyone but Richard himself. He would do the same for me if the roles were reversed.
You all might like to adopt a fantastic scheme we run here in westcott being "baby meals"! No not for baby, but for the rest of the family soon after baby is born, a group of us draw up a mon to sat rota and cook one day a week for two weeks and provide home cooked meals for new mums in the area. It's great, I've had this service myself and boy, I felt loved and as though people in this village were all saints. So, there you go, we do have a pretty bonkers village with amazing ethics and community HOWEVER there will always be snooty, stuck up ingoramuses who will tarnish the general good will of the rest of the community. Andy honey? A true gem and I count him and his beautiful family as great friends.he's just one of many involved with making the lives of others just that bit easier. Our lovely village has so many lovely people I couldn't begin to explain. Westcott in bloom? Most of us never heard of it. We certainly know Richard Wallace and Andy honey. They are what westcotts about, we don't care about recognition, just supporting our community and making the most of our lives which includes huge amounts of wine and laughter. Remember....entail illness is rife amongst us, talk, be kind, support one another. Come see the real westcott, I guarantee you'll not see any of the stuck up tossers, they are probably too busy cradling their blooms and slagging other people off! Merry Christmas y'all. Nin x

Bohica · 22/12/2011 22:00

Lovely post Nin, apart from the fact that we are Mumsnet not netmums.

Insulted? Moi? Xmas Grin

Sparklingbaubles · 22/12/2011 22:03

It's ok hun, we are Mums on the Net. Smile

Weren't you asked to take part in the show Nin? Sounds like all is not what it seems in Westcott. That's editing for you.....

Ninmcglynn · 22/12/2011 22:39

Oops! Hope I'm forgiven. Yes I was pestered for a week they wanted to film me taking a meal to Richard but the thought horrified me! Nope, that's not for me. Editing, yes. Shame that missed out on he real community spirit here. Alan ( the vicar) was the one who called for help during a service one Sunday. He and his wife are on the docu clearing richard's garden! Doesn't make for real 'cutting edge'drama tho does it? Andy honey really is a darling, sorry ladies, so is his wife xx

Sparklingbaubles · 22/12/2011 22:42

So has anything moved on since the programme was filmed Nin? I was hoping for a Kim and Aggie style tidy up at the end. Sad

Bohica · 22/12/2011 23:09

How is Richard doing and is his property looking less cramped now?

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2011 23:10

i watched this and felt really sad for him - he def has issues and watching him squeeze through the tiny hole was horrible :(

yes many of the neighbours seemed judgy, yet didnt want to help, but sure this is only a tiny % of the village

PregolaLolaOnAlittleDonkey · 22/12/2011 23:11

Ooh another one from Westcott. Nin and I know each other, but I'm in hiding on here! Nin - I was a bit surprised at the sweeping generalisations made on here about the village, but we know the truth! Let's face it going on the first part of the programme I wouldn't want to live here.

RealiTreeCoveredInTinsel - is that as in the first half or the second half of the programme?

Well, I don't recognise that description. Perhaps it's changed since you were here. I would imagine it could be cliquey on the posh roads with big houses, but not on the normal ones where I live.

Sorry was I getting defensive!!

FlamingoBingo · 23/12/2011 14:34

Westcott - I don't think there were any sweeping generalisations made, were there? Just dismay at the attitude of the people who were filmed being mean. I don't think anyone said 'People from Westcott are...'.

Ninmcglynn · 23/12/2011 16:13

Merry Christmas to everyone from all at westcott in bloom!!!!! Just kidding! Lol. No merry Christmas all, enjoy the festive season and eat drink and be merry! I will. Westcott citizen... We know each other? Heehee I've no idea who you are at the moment but give me a wink or wear a red rose round westcott to identify yourself!! Lots of love xxxxxx

planetpotty · 23/12/2011 16:45

Westcot ladies....does Andy know he his now officially a hottie on MN?
