Anyone watching?

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 21/12/2011 21:32

Yes, they always rationalise their hoarding.

Sparklingbaubles · 21/12/2011 21:32

He seems like a very intelligent man. He is aware he has a problem. I feel sorry for him, and those villagers are beyond vile.

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:33

I'm not sure I can watch any more. It's bringing back too many sad memories Sad

hiddenhome · 21/12/2011 21:33

That bloke looks like he's going to cry Confused

pooka · 21/12/2011 21:33

That village looks like hell. Some seriously unpleasant characters, most particularly the local councillor who looked shifty as hell when he was asked whether he'd spoken to the chap.

I feel sad for him. His life has stalled. I don't know what will happen to him.

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:35

The village is reminiscent of the one in hot fuzz.

Sparklingbaubles · 21/12/2011 21:35

If he doesn't get the right help this will be a non-programme. Confused

Sparklingbaubles · 21/12/2011 21:36

You are so right shrinking. Grin

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 21/12/2011 21:36

The bloke has gone away now. He looked totally defeated.

Bohica · 21/12/2011 21:36

I feel so sad for him, if it takes 45minutes to get from the kitchen to the living room he will be eating cold dippy eggs Sad

Are you ok Shrink?

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:37

Lets get some spray paint and go and sort them out. I would totally love to ruin that strangley mahogany man's day. And the way he is in charge of all community clubs etc is slightly freaky.

ledkr · 21/12/2011 21:38

Ive worked with two clients like this and many not as bad.I tried to help them clear up but one woman wanted to keep an old hair mousse lid in case she needed it and another wanted to keep some old fruit shoot bottles-empty- and some snotty tissues.I helped her dd's clear their room of literally rubbish, the next day the Mum complained id thrown away brand new i pods and phones Shock i hadnt. Its frustrating but fascinating too.

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:39

I am, but I am having a little cry for my uncle. Thank you for asking.

OnTheTopOfTheWorld · 21/12/2011 21:39

I think the villagers are coming off pretty badly and appear very uncaring but that being said, ten years ago they may have been friendly to him and pro-offered help. It might just be a case of all bridges having been burnt over time and now they just resent him. They might not always have been so hostile to him.

I hope that OCD specialist was going to help him, but if he doesn't see it as anything other than a practical/storage issue then what could the specialist do?

pooka · 21/12/2011 21:39

God yes - just like hot fuzz.

scarletforya · 21/12/2011 21:40

Watching it now. God, the poor thing. He is ill, more than just eccentric. He has no quality of life.

What is the right thing to do though, it would seem a bit harsh to section him. He is a danger to himself in a way though.

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:41

Yes, it is interesting. Once I had detached myself a bit, the clearing of his house was cathartic and an absolutely fascinating insight into a side of him that was pretty much hidden from the outside world.

planetpotty · 21/12/2011 21:41

Sorry to drop in late but WTF!! It's the stuff of nightmares!!
Keep feeling all woosy when the show him crawling through the gaps Shock

I USED to think I was a horder!

The landscape gardener is lovely Grin

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:42

disclaimer - I am REALLY SHALLOW. But phwoar, firemen....

Sparklingbaubles · 21/12/2011 21:42

I don't like the crawling through gaps planet. Like potholing. Sad

Perhaps the firemen will help.

OP posts:
Meglet · 21/12/2011 21:43

Does anyone remember the Life of Grime doc on BBC1 many years ago? They had Mr Trebus who hoarded like this. He was lovely, I think they cleared some of his house in the end.

shrinkingnora · 21/12/2011 21:43

They're certainly helping me Wink

SquashedSquirrel · 21/12/2011 21:44

Gorgeous Firemen, bless his nice neighbour but fuck everyone else. The retired Pilot looks like a seventies porn star, complete with dodgy porn star moustache! Knobs the lot of them.

OnTheTopOfTheWorld · 21/12/2011 21:45

Potty Yeah, I'm loving the gardener. He seems genuinely kind.

planetpotty · 21/12/2011 21:45

Yep exactly what I thought! I did not like potholing! If I was meant to go through a letterbox I'd have been born with a stamp on my head Grin

Sod the firemen I'm a little bit in love with the gardener Blush
