Starts tomorrow night at 10pm in case you didn't already know!

And the last episode of Season 1 is on before in case you need to remember what happened

OP posts:
JKSLtd · 22/10/2011 22:10

I am refusing to read a post on this thread until I have had a chance to watch my recorded episode Grin

Will probably have to wait for DH to go back to work on Monday

Meanwhile, if you like this & reading, try the 'News' trilogy (well number 3 not out yet) by Mira Grant, have just read the 2nd one (Deadline) - didn't realise it was part of a series, have reserved number 1 (Feed) to fill in the gaps.

countessbabycham · 22/10/2011 22:33

ledkr I am currently trying to tear myself away from MN to continue reading "World War Z".

JKSLtd I've read Feed and Deadline - very good!

Try JL Bourne "Day by Day Armageddon"....

ledkr · 22/10/2011 23:01

countesss Are you finding it hard going?Good but hard going? It maybe cos i have ayoung baby and am tired a lot.I feel as if i need to re read it when ive finished. They are making the film did you know?

countessbabycham · 22/10/2011 23:18

It's funny you should say that ledkr.I've heard it recommended so many times that I feel I should be completely absorbed, but I'm finding I'm getting easily distracted.Maybe I'll get into it more as I'm not far in.The JL Bourne book was a lot more un-put-down-able for me - easier reading.

From what I've read so far I reckon the film will be good - no,I didn't realise they were making the film!

But sometimes I am a slow starter with books and I've had to be a little distracted to do the normal mundane stuff that's piling up (from spending too long on MN!!!)

ILovePonyo · 23/10/2011 08:22

Aha ledkr you found me Grin

Liking all these book recommendations.

I don't want to give too much away but am hoping when more people have watched the episode there will be some answers to my 'can zombies smell humans' question

Alexironingboard · 23/10/2011 08:45

Waves to countess

I have a love hate relationship with Walking Dead; I cannot look away and I find it hard to watch. Episode 1 was great and this is one of the best things on TV. I may even venture to the graphic novels.

Loved World War Z - filming with Brad Pitt at the mo

Just about to read Handling the Undead John Ajvide Lindqvist (Let the Right One In)

Melty · 23/10/2011 09:31

I wondered about the smell thing too, but most of them have no noses!
The writer says its more about recognising that there is warm living food or not food (ie dead and stinky) and they can be fooled if they are disguised by dead stuff .
Everone watching apparently also thought Er, why didnt they smell them so he was asked about it on a chat show called the Talking Dead.

Alexironingboard · 23/10/2011 09:46

Possible spoiler alert

In my mind it goes like this:

  1. When zombies are aimlessly milling about, the alivers covered themselves in gunk to blend in and get through;
  2. When zombies moving in a herd in a purposeful direction it is possible to hid as long as you are quiet and stay off their radar. If you are covered in blood/in plain sight, you need to disguse yourself.
sillybillies · 23/10/2011 10:09

Watched it friday night and thought the same thing about them hiding under the cars. I had to get up and wander round so I could hide from the scary bits. Felt like I was 10 and watching doctor who again.
Very good and looking forward to the rest of the series.

Melty · 23/10/2011 10:26

The other thing that bothered was when they were standing in awe looking at the stag. Why?
Its the middle of a zombie apocolypse, you probably have no meat/protein. (kill the thing now ) and it has huge antlers that might gore you or your little boy if he gets too close.
I think Shane was going to shoot it and Rick put a hand up to stop him.
Did he really want Carl to pet a wild stag?

I could nit-pick a lot about the show,( mainly about how stupid they are), but I still love it. Grin

LtAllHallowsEve · 23/10/2011 10:32

I think Rick was seeing it as the 'sign' he asked for, instead of just meat!

I want to know how all the people in the cars died - I mean if they were bitten they would be zombies and surely they couldn't all have died in crashes?

Plus I had decided what 'the secret' the scientist told Rick was, and what I decided now doesn't fit with the dead bodies!

Melty · 23/10/2011 10:43

Yeah, turned out to be a different sort of sign. Grin and I shouldn't laugh, but that was a brilliant ending.

Maybe all those people died of sunstroke? Big pile up, can't move cars, can't go back as Atlanta is heaving with zombie types, I'll just wait...pass out....die.
Some of the cars were empty, so some obviously got away. (and became zombies)
Maybe they were gassed, maybe they were bittten and became zombies, but didnt know how to ubnbuckle the seat belts, and now they are dessicated zombies??? (although the zombies dont just bite, they dismenber)

ledkr · 23/10/2011 10:55

I love the way im not the only Zombie obsessive,i wonder why? Me and dh have big conversations about how we would survive then we suddenly realise how serious we are being and strat laughing.

There are always holes in the good series.I loved Luther but some of it was ridiculous Grin

Alexironingboard · 23/10/2011 16:20

Lt what did you think the secret was?

LtAllHallowsEve · 23/10/2011 17:14

Is it a spoiler if I'm just guessing? I suppose not if I'm wrong anyway.

I thought that the doc might have told Rick that everyone is infected, just that the virus was dormant in the 'survivors'.

I'm gonna have to go with my next best now!

Alexironingboard · 23/10/2011 17:54

Thanks Lt

I thought It might be the govt caused an epidemic and phase 2 was something nasty like infertility.

LtAllHallowsEve · 23/10/2011 18:33

I'm wondering if maybe Ricks wife is pregnant. Remember the doc took blood samples from everyone...that would put the cat amongst the pigeons.

countessbabycham · 23/10/2011 19:26

Hi Alexironingboard!!!

You caught me sneakily being disloyal to The Housewives thread!!

Ledkr I am def. getting into World War Z!

I have this zombie issue that bothers me too.Outside the CDC there were a lot of dead dead bodies in season 1.What makes some bodies just dead bodies and what makes some walk?Obviously being bitten makes them "walk" but I am with others in wondering how the inanimate dead died IYSWIM!

I have managed to see Ep1 Season2 and I am DELIGHTED.Now how do I fit in Mumsnet,The Walking Dead,a good book,Housewives of New York, and real life??

Busy busy busy.....Grin

Melty · 23/10/2011 19:33

Lt, why would he do a pregnancy test though?
I've just gone back and watched, Jenner (CDC guy) said there were no surprises.
Plus, Rick could never have kept that a secret.

Melty · 23/10/2011 19:39

I think the dead dead ones were shot by the military.
When they showed the clip of Shane trying to get Rick out of the hospital, they were shooting left right and centre Zombies and non zombies.

countessbabycham · 23/10/2011 20:41

Melty that seems likely.Thank you - one less thing to worry think about!

JKSLtd · 24/10/2011 20:57

OMG I am watching it right now and have hardly breathed for 20mins!

As soon as it started I thought, why the eff am i watching this on my own?!
Then remembered that DH won't watch it with me anyway.

ILovePonyo · 24/10/2011 21:05

Grin JKS you're brave I couldn't watch it on my own, I still check the back door is locked before we watch it Grin

Shortfingers · 24/10/2011 21:07

Love it, watched Ep1 S2 last night and missed xfactor. I can't stop thinking about the little girl alone in the woods overnight (and now all week) eeek

Alexironingboard · 24/10/2011 21:18

JKSLtd another well done for watching it one your own.

Shortfingers me too

I am dreaming about zombies taking over.
