As all the other threads seem to have died off I thought I'd start a new one in anticipation of this Friday's first live show.

I have to say I'm not too bothered about the Celebs this year, but then again I'm more interested in watching the professionals anyway!

The line up for each of the two shows has been announced (from BBC website):

On Friday 30th September the couples performing for the first time on live television will be:

?Alex
?Anita
?Audley
?Dan
?Lulu
?Robbie
?Russell

Then on Saturday 1st October the couples performing for the first time together will be:

?Chelsee
?Edwina
?Harry
?Holly
?Jason
?Nancy
?Rory

Please note the running order has yet to be confirmed. The celebrities have been listed above in alphabetical order.

They will dance either a Waltz or a Cha Cha Cha, but I'm not 100% sure who is doing what.

My overriding thought in the run up for the series so far has been "I hope the wardrobe department come up with some decent foundations for poor Chelsee!"
That outfit they've put her in for the promo shots makes her boobs look humungous Shock

Anyone else care to share their thoughts in advance?

You're not cracking up scatter; someone (Craig I think) said on ITT that lifts are allowed in the salsa for the first time this year :)

The spoiler is up on digitalspy now for those (like me) who can't take the suspense

BustersOfDoom · 08/10/2011 22:57

I'm with you Prolesworth I can't bear them stringing it out over 2 nights and the Digital Spy spoiler thread is always correct!

iceandsliceplease · 08/10/2011 22:57

DS do have a cracking spoiler system going, it's as much a part of the strictly experience for me as the main show is.

Also, if you've not yet had the pleasure, please read the blog of the mighty mighty monkseal for his SCD posts. Love him. Really, really love him. he can take a single gesture, word or look and construct the most hilarious interpretation of it.

BustersOfDoom · 08/10/2011 23:00

I should probably add that it's because I can't be arsed to watch another flipping show where they pad it out as long as they possibly can. My attention span is only so long Grin

ScatterChasse · 08/10/2011 23:01

Phew! Mind you, with all the props/theatricals I thought I'd put on Dancing With the Stars for a moment. A curtain for heaven's sake.

It's been the last two series really, when they've had a big switch of professionals and style.

Why did we get such an influx of American (or dancers who have been based there) dancers? Surely there are dancers just as good, if not better actually from Britain? And why are they now all Latin experts? It just feels like the balance has gone.

ScatterChasse · 08/10/2011 23:05

Sorry, that was a bit maudlin wasn't it!

I've just gone off it a bit. It seems so unfair that it's the old stalwarts who get the 'comedy' partners while these new ones waltz in (no pun intended) and get good (or at least reasonable) ones for several series.

BustersOfDoom · 08/10/2011 23:11

I do wonder if the 'old stalwarts' get extra cash for partnering the no hopers. Anton seems to have made a Strictly career out of it.

Then again if they all get the same money for the series then getting the full whack for going out in week 1, 2 or 3 doesn't seem like such a bad deal really.

MrsKitty · 08/10/2011 23:18

Thank you ice&sliceplease for the direction to that blog - The brief bits I read were hilarious and he writes about 'The Batchelor' - my secret guilty pleasure at the moment! Blush

ScatterChasse · 08/10/2011 23:32

Oh, my message just went poof!

I was just going to say that you can't really capitalise on going out early though, you have no idea how long you'll be in, so you can't really sign up to do exhibitions or events, especially if both of you are involved. I suppose you could do classes.

It just seems like they're not even giving them the chance to win any more.Even if Artem wins this series with Holly, I refuse to believe it's because he's a better teacher than, say, Erin, whose choreography and music choices are generally very good and manages to do reasonably well with everyone you give her.

iceandsliceplease · 08/10/2011 23:44

MrsKitty, just wait until he posts a full deconstruction of the episode with pictures and polls. It is epic.

sybilfaulty · 09/10/2011 08:04

Scatter, I bumped into Matthew Cutler at a thing the year he partnered Martina Hingis and I went over gushing about how much I loved him and how sorry I was he'd gone out in week 1. He said that he wasn't sorry as he still got the same fee and it meant he could be in more of the show dances rather than lumping around a celeb with 2 left feet. He didn't put it quite like that but I don't think there was any love lost between him and Martina.

Am loving Strictly this year and want Jason to win. Am very sad Matthew and, especially, Darren and Lilia aren't in but I suppose the show has to move with the times.

Finallygotaroundtoit · 09/10/2011 08:12

I'm wondering how Erin Boag (sp?) passes for a professional?

She looks like the amateur to me - and I know nowt about professional dancing Hmm

Finallygotaroundtoit · 09/10/2011 08:15

Oh and Robbie's partner thankfully listened to the judges and actually let him dance instead of showing herself off!

2BoysTooLoud · 09/10/2011 08:40

I am going to go against the majority here! I used to love Anton but last week he pissed me right off. I think he let Nancy down and treated her like a joke. Bit pissed off with him this week too. Perhaps if he took Nancy a bit more seriously she might have a chance. Did you see how uncomfortable she was at the end of the dance when he held her in the split position too long? He knew she had a bad leg. Just think Anton getting too big for his boots at the moment.

CaveMum · 09/10/2011 08:54

Finally Erin is not a great Latin dancer! I've spoken to many dance teachers about it and they've all said she is a beautiful Ballroom dancer and a very good teacher, but her Latin is very weak. She'll have studied Latin up to a point but once she took the decision to turn amateur then pro, she will have dropped the Latin training.

Anton is the same to a certain point, though he can cover up his Latin flaws by being over enthusiastic!

Of the two styles Ballroom is far harder to master because of the footwork, room alignments, degrees of turn etc. If it goes wrong in a Ballroom dance it is usually very obvious. If you go wrong in a Latin dance you can usually cover it up with a bit of gyrating!

2BoysTooLoud - I am with you here. Used to love Anton but feel he has now become a parody of what he used to be - hamming it up far too much and making his partner look foolish. We are laughing at Nancy rather than with her/them - rather meanspirited I think, and he is doing it to fit his comedy persona. Not for me.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/10/2011 12:05

Very slight tangent, but LetUsPrey and PattySimcox, the formula for appropriate perving is that the pervee must be no younger than half your age plus 7.

HTH.

Wink
sybilfaulty · 09/10/2011 12:34

I find Anton lacks credibility in the Latin as he's not sexy. Even when he's had a decent partner, it's a bit "Dad" dancing for me. I don't mean to be ageist as clearly he's a lot older than Pasha, Artem et al, but there's just nothing phwoar there. Last year, I thought Pamela and James were very good at latin, and actually managed to convey the sensuality of the Rumba, which hardly anyone has managed to date.

I am still coming to terms with Erin's make over from a few years back. SHe looks like a completely different woman!

TALLULAHBELLE · 09/10/2011 12:50

Loved Craig's f**ers gaffe to Nancy & Len putting Aliona in her place. Robbie the biggest surprise of the show for me but surely he can afford a decent hairdresser- the home dye job is just awful.

AitchTwoOh · 09/10/2011 13:19

i thought that Alisha's 'they're having a chat' bit was very pointed, Edwina really is an utter pain in the arse imo.

Biscuitsandtea · 09/10/2011 13:23

I wish Len would apply that 'half your age plus 7' when he's perving - Bleh! Or in his case, half your age plus seVEN Grin

Agreed re Alisha's 'having a chat' comment - think she dealt with that well Smile

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/10/2011 13:31

Bruno also needs to think of 'half your age plus seven' when he's dribbling over commenting on Harry's arse dancing.

Biscuitsandtea · 09/10/2011 13:32

Yep - good point! Smile

chipstick10 · 09/10/2011 15:19

I just dont get the Jason love Confused

LetUsPrey · 09/10/2011 16:16

LadyClarice - so half my age ... plus seven ... I was right, Harry's too young for me!
