That's the one O'Brian. What a ghastly woman. She looks as if she's never had a days happiness in her life.
I wonder if her and the butler from awful ex nurse meddler will get together. He is turning out to be a weasel too.

missmogwi · 20/09/2011 14:28

Had another idea.

Thomas will by some fluke save matthews life and be treated as hero and thereby brought into family fold and tries to marry Edith or Sybil??

Thereby diluting the noble Grantham line. Much hysteria from the dowager duchess.

But the day will be saved when he is caught with the new hunky valet and he's out on his ear.

Or something.

No, Twatty Thomas will save Matthew and his reward will be homosexual luff with Matty.
O'brian will obviously be party to the bumming and take photographs or draw pictures in the style of a court reporter. Not sure if camera's were in every day useage at that time.

MY EYES ARE BURNING YOU LOT

harrietthespook · 20/09/2011 15:47

I'm personally crushed that Mary seems to have had her wings clipped and is handing out cuddly toys etc. I was hoping she'd start to develop along the lines of her granny violet in terms of cutting wit etc. say what you like about her but she was interesting in series one (as was Edith to be fair). I can't adjust to this new nicer version - it also rings pretty hollow for me.

Maybe Livinia will get more interesting too - right now she seems like a younger and more timid version of matthew's mother Isabelle. Bizarr-o. Thought bringing another lurve interest in would be cool but she is dullsville so far.

lord grantham tempted by an affair with a housemaid....

diddl · 20/09/2011 16:40

I found it odd that after 2yrs everyone felt so sorry for Mary-as if she wasn´t the one to have turned down Matthew´s offer.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 20/09/2011 17:08

Keep up diddl, currently Matty is in a bumming relationship with cunning Thomas although I recollect he was married to divvy Daisy so not sure how that will pan out.
I agree with you, Mary is meek now. Completely unlike her. I'd have thought she'd have made a belting sufferagette too.

diddl · 20/09/2011 17:14

Yup-she was really boring!

No wonder Thomas seems a better proposition!

harrietthespook · 20/09/2011 17:18

I can't believe no one's commented on my Lord Grantham link.

Fecking offended. I try so hard for you ladies.

Who do we reckon it will be? O'Brien????

diddl · 20/09/2011 17:20

Well, Cora´s looking a bit rough.

I reckon the new girl!

missmogwi · 20/09/2011 17:28

New girl deffo

I don't like the cut of her jib already Grin

I've just had another brilliant idea. mary's new newspaper man is pissed off because she wont' do bumsex for him, finds out about turkish man and publishes it in his newspaper.

missmogwi · 20/09/2011 17:33

That's why she's all pale and wan on her return from London. She's worn out from the bum sex that's now expected of her in high society.

OP posts:
dapplegrey · 20/09/2011 17:36

Please, please, please don't let Matthew be killed in the war! I don't want William to be killed either, but I'm sure one of them will be.
I think Mary has become nicer because she's been humbled by losing Matthew. She still loves him, but does he still love her?

missmogwi · 20/09/2011 17:43

I think William will be missing presumed dead, up the duff daisy will marry bastard Thomas then William will rock up a war hero. Then the shit will hit the fan.

OP posts:
diddl · 20/09/2011 18:00

"but does he still love her?"

I bet he does, the idiot-has he no pride?

I´m sure Matthew won´t die-isn´t the whole point about him taking over DA?

If he dies, what was the point of the whole thing?

I also think he will marry Mary so that there´s an aristo at "at the helm".

But it seems that "Mary´s scandal" is well known-so why doesn´t Matthew know?

Will Thomas tell him?

dapplegrey · 20/09/2011 18:25

Diddl - yes, hopefully Matthew is too important in the story to be killed off. Maybe he doesn't know about the scandal because he didn't (afaik) mix in high society in London where the story was doing the rounds.
I think if Thomas told him he would blame the messenger.

diddl · 20/09/2011 18:44

Yes I guess he wouldn´t mix the s´the "right" people.

But it´s been 2yrs-would Mrs Bates get much mileage from it?

I´m guessing that her threat was more towards Anna?

I think that she did it because she was pissed off at Mary paying attention to Lord Strallon(?) even though she didn´t like him because he d´showed some attention to Edith.
Then she herad her parents talking about how wonderful Mary was & how much they expected of her & that they expected nothing of Edith-I think along the lines of poor Edith what will become of her.

And all the time Mary looking down her nose at Edith and being superior.

But yes, you would have thought that the whole family would be affected.

cheapskatemum · 20/09/2011 21:25

Soupdragon, I didn't feel sorry for Thomas. He only volunteered for Medical Corps because he thought it would be a soft option, but still get him out of fighting without seeming a coward. He was wrong, then schemed how to get a "paper cut" bad enough to ensure he got sent home. He's well up to the, how did Matthew phrase it? String-pulling? Required to ensure he gets sent to the hospital in Downton.

I think Mary is making eyes at the newspaper magnate to get him to print something that completely negates her shame with the Turkish dude.

cerealqueen · 20/09/2011 21:47

I've just got it!!!!
The actress who plays O'Brien was in that 80s film 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too' ??

It was raunchy.

Sorry to interrupt, had to post that while I remembered!

missmogwi · 20/09/2011 21:48

It is her. I didn't realise either until someone said on here!

alemci · 20/09/2011 22:00
