Sorry Northern - sometimes get a bit caught up in threads then come back and think - what a tit!!!

GeorginaWorsley · 11/10/2011 17:33

I think Matthew may be blind.Sad
According to this weeks Heat magazine Blush
William very ill and Matthew's ijuries have repurcusions for the whole family.

Biscuitsandtea · 11/10/2011 17:34

I thought he looked like he might be blind - but that won't stop him producing an heir with mary - come on matthew - Man up! Grin

"Matthew's ijuries have repurcusions for the whole family"

So he can´t have children?

Or has decided he doesn´t want to be the heir anymore?

Bossybritches22 · 11/10/2011 17:47

ooooh off to watch link before commenting...are we due to re-start the thread soon?

PastGrace · 11/10/2011 17:51

I wondered if maybe William was in in useless Isobel's house? For saving Matthew?

My DP is convinced that William will be fine and then Daisy will in trouble because she'll have to marry him.

My mum's been saying since last series that Matthew would either die or come back infertile. I'm starting to think useless Mary doesn't deserve him again, she needs to sort herself out.

Maybe he's blind and they do a Measure for Measure style switcheroo and Mary ends up in the family way instead of Lavinia? That would liven things up...

Northernlurker · 11/10/2011 17:51

I am such a wimp! Having been all 'it's not accurate' gruff and moan I now don't want it to be accurate because something bad will happen Sad

We really don't appreciate how lucky we are not to have to face this scale of horror in our own time.

WillieWaggledagger · 11/10/2011 17:52

i laugh out loud at the moment in Sunday's episode when Lord g went into the pub and bates slowly turned round... and lord g took his hat off...

I was expecting romantic music

Trailer!!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 11/10/2011 18:07

Look, it's patently obvious that Mary's little tryst with the Turk is going to get out due to the old lemon that ladies maid trying to get Bates in trouble. Then the newspaper dude won;t want to marry her (he only wants her to bolster his position in society after all) and maybe Lavinia will bugger off because Matthew is injured in some way and she'll realise that she can;t be doing with that, thus leaving M&M free to get it on after all.

Also I reckon Daisy will be stuck with an injured William who she can;t get away from because they're affianced and she'd feel like a great big heel if she left him.

Says that "events make Mary start nursing"-so she´s finally going to do something to help?

Wonder what happens?

Sybil runs off?

Or the predictable she ends up nursing a wounded Matthew.

Northernlurker · 11/10/2011 18:21

Mary looks to be working alongside Sybil - yes I think it is Matthew's arrival in bits that prompts this.

dapplegrey · 11/10/2011 18:25

Northern lurker - "we really don't appreciate how lucky we are not to have to face this scale of horror in our own time"

That is so true. There was a programme about Kate Middleton's forbears and her great great grandparents lost their three sons - and they won't have been the only ones. Then of course those who survived with lifelong mental and physical scars.

I hope poor Matthew isn't blind. I think I remember the doctor at Downton saying sometimes those blinded by gas did recover their sight.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 11/10/2011 18:26

I'm telling you now, I'm scarily good at predicting obvious storylines

Northernlurker · 11/10/2011 18:29

Doesn't look like a gas injury to me - more like a blow to the head after being blown up.

CheerfulYank · 11/10/2011 18:35

I love Mary and Matthew, etc, but honestly I really don't care as long as Bates and Anna get to have their little hotel with the children.

TipOfTheSlung · 11/10/2011 18:51

There was a women in a village I used to live in who lost 4 sons and her husband in the 'Great' War. They were given a small amount (a guninea I think?) for each person lost and some people shunned her because they believed she was profitting from the war. That time was harsh in so many ways

GeorgeEliot · 11/10/2011 19:08

is anyone else really disappointed by the 2nd series (haven't read the thread!).
Thought some of the plot lines in sunday's episode were utterly pathetic - the bit where Matthew walks in while she's singing 'If you were the only boy in the world...' I saw coming a mile off; and they should have strung out the two of them missing for much longer; the way isobel upped sticks and left so quickly and then couldn't be contacted; how creepy Bates seems suddenly to have resolved the situation with his wife and is back in the house all of a sudden. all feels as if it was written in a hurry by someone studying A-level English ...
For proper drama, carefully constructed, the Americans are so much better at this. Am thinking Mad Men, the Sopranos. what a shame Downton is such tosh.

GeorgeEliot · 11/10/2011 19:09

just seen Mrszimmerman's post and totally agree

GeorgeEliot · 11/10/2011 19:16

and all that business with the soup kitchen - also utterly predictable

Bossybritches22 · 11/10/2011 19:25

But George.....Sunday night tosh is what we do best surely? Wink

Half the fun is in nit-picking critically appraising EVERYTHING! Grin

GeorginaWorsley · 11/10/2011 19:49

It would be too cruel to have Matthew wounded ,ahem,(coughs) down below.....

josephinebonaparte · 11/10/2011 19:59

NO, I will NOT accept an unhappy ending!
