But it looks like Matthew is there too, in which case surely he should get the fab bed? The photo with the label on Matthew's blanket makes him look dead :( If he's killed I will be writing a letter of complaint to ITV ordering them to reverse it :o

OMG - the one with the blanket does make it look that way - I so hope he isn't!!!

I wonder why he's in the hospital bed and William upstairs? You'd think that would mean that William is poorlier (or even more poorly) which in turn must make Matthew not dead?

And is that Mrs Bates with Bates in the church?

Unless William is not so injured and has gone straight to convalescing ... maybe given a better bed because he saved Matthew???

Matthew on the other hand is not at Downton convalescing- he is in the hospital. It does look as if he could be dead but then again - the actors a bit wooden when he's moving so he prob looks dead when he's not....Grin

Why is there a vicar there? Why does Maggie Smith look as if she is in mourning?
I don't think Matty boy is dead, he would have a sheet over his face.
Tragically Isobel is back, she doesn't look as if her mealticket son is dead.

it's so rubbish, too rushed, issues crammed into tiny bits of drama between months of incessant adverts.

And Mary opening her eyes widely, it aint enough to call that acting imo.
Matthew's dissappearance thrown away in one episode.
Villains too cartoony.

ITV are greedy b'stards and rushed it out before it was fit to be filmed, too greedy for the ad dollars, shame shame shame on you ITV, shameless.

I think that Matthew is at DA as Sybil is there.

Maybe Matthew insisted that William have his own room?

Matthew doesn't have a room at Downton, he lives with his mum in the house that isn't the Dower house but belongs to the estate for awkward situations such as this.

I think the label is a red herring. If he were dead his eyes would have been closed and a sheet would be over his head before you got near him with a label.

Looks to me like he's in the hospital and William is convalescent.

Interested to see Bates and the future Mrs B in a church. Might they be contemplating matrimony? Or bigamy?

Is that Anna or the current Mrs Bates with Bates in church? I couldn't tell? They all look the same in the clothes and hats!

Matthew doesn't have a room at the house but they must have a spare room or two or hundred there - it's mahoosive!

But I agree, more likely that he's in the hospital, William at the house convalescing and upgraded to a guest room because he's done something like save Matthew's life?

Now, will that win Daisy over? Does she still have the hots for Thomas the toad? If so someone should really sit her down and explain that's he's Not. Nice.

I think William is just in a big bed due to a spinal injury? it's not that posh, maybe the housekeeper's bed or something...

My big plot question is this...

WHAT did Bates do to help out Earl G? why does he limp? why does Earl G constantly seek him out/ get stroppy when Bates ain't there to do up his buckles?

Thanks to everyone who has pointed out that the gorgeous Matthew would not be dead with a label and his eyes open. Phew!

If the family is in all black then it isn't William who cops it. My bet is on Cora?
