Bloody mum rang to ask me about how much Internet she can use before it's full. Don't ask.

Why did bates have to leave?? Aaargh missed crucial bit!

OP posts:
ThePsychicSatsuma · 03/10/2011 14:55

pamuk. lord g doesnt know about that though, & cora does?

diddl · 03/10/2011 14:58

Oh yes, when Carson told Lord G that Bates left to avoid a scandal-to the family(?), why didn´t Lord G show any interest in finding out about it?Confused

harrietthespook · 03/10/2011 15:31

Carson knows chapter and verse on Thomas' role in getting that scandal out. That's who I meant.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2011 15:32

I meant Sybil the posh youngest nurse daughter!! I'm jetlagged if that's an excuse!

Yeah why didn't Lord G. tell Cora about Thomas's misdeeds? IMO Cora's a bit thick which is why she likes O'Brien or she 's a masochist!

SheWhoMustNotBeFlamed · 03/10/2011 15:53

Agree with Mort - William will come back hideously disfigured and Daisy will feel obliged to marry him. Cora will die, oh yes indeedy.

Psychic Satsuma - great name. Are you from the States?

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 03/10/2011 16:02

It has turned into a Soap

M'Lord has turned into a pompous caricature of himself
Coar has turned into a twittering fool
Sybil looks like she has just left Camden school for Girls

GetAwayFromHerYouBitch · 03/10/2011 16:02

cora

MortBlackCatsandWitch · 03/10/2011 16:12

"whats with branston getting himself in such a pickle too! he's a fascist isnt he?"

i think that was the chauffeur from Upstairs Downstairs remake - the one that was boffing little Dorrit.....

This one is a Bolshevik sympathiser (didn't think they'd kill the royals) and on the side of the Irish in the troubles....

Confused
ShowOfHands · 03/10/2011 16:30

Arf at Branston pickle.

diddl · 03/10/2011 16:58

"Isobel's awful in parts in this one."

Yes, she does seem to be forgetting herself a bit.

But Lord & Lady G wanting control without actually doing anything?

"if we can´t have who we want here we´ll throw them all out"-alrighty-that´s doing something for the war effort!

Were houses like DA not requisitioned in WW1?

Or does that not apply as they have already turned it into a convalescent home?

harrietthespook · 03/10/2011 17:33

I think he's just panicking. They were very heavy handed about that Evelyn Napier thing, the doctor and Mrs Crawley...and the dog was almost comical. So human, all of them!!! Anyway -- too involved, me.

GeorginaWorsley · 03/10/2011 17:53

Maybe Cora for the flu..
Lord G could remarry and have a son.
Matthew not heir then.
I think he may be blinded or lose a limb oer something.

diddl · 03/10/2011 18:52

"I think he's just panicking"

I guess that the "old order" is slipping away.

Not likely that he would have had anything to do with Mrs Crawley if he didn´t have to.

If they brinh M&M together in this series, what is there for series 3?

anonacfr · 03/10/2011 19:41

Bates really creeped me out in that episode. He used to be so noble but when he talks about his wife he sounds like an abuser.
Anna should run awaaaaaaay!

GeorginaWorsley · 03/10/2011 20:02

I wonder if Matthew will go missing, mary marry Richard,Lavinia die of flu, then Matthew return and something awful befall Richard in Series three....victim of the Wall St Crash?
Like James in Upstairs Downstairs....

AnyoneButLulu · 03/10/2011 20:08

I think Lavinia has got a nasty case of flu coming to her, but by that time Mary will have married ghastly newspaper tycoon and it will be Too Late.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 03/10/2011 20:16

yes yes
richard loses all of his money in wall street,

william steps on a mine thus saving matthew who loses his memory...

matthew forgets all about lavinia and falls in love with ...

edith?

ThePsychicSatsuma · 03/10/2011 20:17

do I mean wall street/ or the depression

GeorginaWorsley · 03/10/2011 20:34

About 12 yrs to Wall Street Crash though, which is pushing it,even at Julian Fellowes' speed.
That will come in Series 3!
Can they make the Matthew/mary saga last that long, they would both be pushing forty, old by 1920's standards.(Not 2011 standards, obv Grin)

anonacfr · 04/10/2011 08:00

I hate bloody Branston. I can't believe Carson let him stay after the whole soup fiasco. And why the hell is he in the house hovering over Sybil the whole time? He's not part of the nursing staff or the house staff. He should be in the garage working on his car!
Stupidest moment of the episode though was lord G completely ignoring the fact that his driver was yelling at his daughter in front of his VERY EYES.

Still love this show though. The fashion is to die for. I love Sybil' s high waisted skirts and Mary's evening dresses. So lovely.

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2011 08:06

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to refresh me on the whole Pamuk thing. I mean I know what happened with him conking out with Mary etc, but I can't remember who knows what about it?

Thank you! Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2011 08:17

Oh and I can't remember the Thomas / stealing thing and if that relates to the Pamuk thing at all? And who knew about that?

Cheers Smile

Northernlurker · 04/10/2011 08:25

Pamuk - he went along to shag Mary - which she was sort of going along with - and then died. The body was moved back to his own bed by Anna and Cora and Edith also knows about it. Edith wrote to the Turkish embassy so anybody who is anybody also knows about it. Lord G definately doesn't know. Can't remember about Maggie Smith......

I think that Matthew is going to be missing for quite a while and Lavinia will marry somebody else - then he will return. That disposes of Lavinia whilst allowing for loads of angst and clearing the way for Mary.

Flu - I think Mrs Crawley is going to be very poorly. I don't think anybody will actually die though - flu is coming up at Christmas. Don't want too muc of a downer plus JF is in fact so smugly delighted with all his central characters he'll never kill any of them off prematurely.

I hope Sybil elopes with Branston Pickle shortly - that'll cause an awful fuss!

Northernlurker · 04/10/2011 08:26

Thomas stealing was nicking a snuffbox to drop Bates in it. Foiled by Anna or Carson or both I think.

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2011 08:46

Thank you Northernlurker

I have a feeling, now you remind me that Maggie Smith might know about the whole Pamuk thing? I'd forgotten about Edith writing to the embassy - I have a feeling she found out resulting from that? Or am I making it up?
