Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

ok, so can anyone ( and I know you can Grin) remind me which colour bow tie the ganger was wearing and which colour the original Doctor had on?

Has the Ganger been spotted yet with his other colour bow tie?

teejwood I thought that rory and the dr hadn't gone off without amy, they'd just got the time travelling wrong and entered her "time stream" 36 years too late?

Amy said something like "you left me, why didn't you save me?" and rory looked confused because as far as he was aware, no time had passed at all, he hadn't gone anywhere.

teejwood · 11/09/2011 21:25

nan iirc old amy said something along the lines of "I remember having this conversation with myself and I said I wouldn't help".

she also says something like "you're asking me to change established events" (to help normal amy)

now i don't see how that conversation between old and original amy could have happened without roranicus bringing the mirror thing to old amy while searching for amy.

which would sort of infer that in some timeline, old amy refuses to help so rory and the doc leave without amy. but that is quite patently not going to happen with old roranicus (questionable with the doctor) so wtf was the mad old bat on about??!!

of course, she could just have been lying about the previous conversation/established history etc. the doctor lies, river lies, why not amy?!

as i said, it's either inconsistent or timey wimey funny business going on....

teejwood · 11/09/2011 21:28

med we got the red one - spooky, eh?!

coconuts here's where it gets interesting. ganger episodes - blue shirt and bow tie
good man goes to war - red Wink

meditrina · 11/09/2011 21:58

The DCs wanted to watch Doctor Who on DVD this afternoon, so with this thread in mond, we watched Amy's choice. In it, the Doctor in the TARDIS was in red, and the Doctor in Ledworth was in Blue. The Dream Lord (who was made from the Doctor) was in red, as was the Doctor when they all emerged back still alive in the TARDIS. So I took from this the blue Doctor was the parallel state Doctor. He was in blue in the episode just gone.

I can't remember which Doctor left ganger island in the TARDIS - attention was drawn to the shoes, not the ties, within that episode. And I don't have it on DVD (yet!) to go back and check.

RustyBear · 11/09/2011 22:36

Maybe it changes with the Time Vortex - red for going forward in time, blue for going back....

Can someone remind me what the story was in Amy's choice?

antlerqueen · 11/09/2011 22:57

They kept waking up and didn't know if they were in a dream or in reality. Also, the first time Rory died, i think. (most likely irrelevant)

PatriciaHolm · 12/09/2011 11:43

While I enjoyed TGWW, it was somewhat spoilt by the whole plot depending on them all being very stupid! Firstly - the Dr and Rory walk through an door in an unknown facility, letting it close behind them between them and Amy. !!! Secondly, 10 seconds after deciding which button to press, Rory absent mindedly shouts out "just press the button". No, of course he wouldn't, he would make it quite clear which one. Thirdly, Amy, confronted by 2 buttons, doesn't shout the obvious retort "Which button, dipstick?" Oh no, she blithely presses the red one!

All of which was just completely ridiculous, and meant the whole situation was rather contrived. Then when you add the "Amy mutates into SuperBrain" bit - oh look! I made a Sonicthingy! Reprogrammed the computer! - it was all a bit meh, really.

Next weeks does indeed look scary though, excellent.

AitchTwoOh · 12/09/2011 12:13

have seen the god complex now... ooooooooooooooooooooooh.

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/09/2011 12:31

I'm starting to believe that the bow-tie colour is significant. After all, in The Time of Angels, a big plot point was signalled if you noticed that The Doctor talking to Amy, who had to keep her eyes closed at the time, was wearing a jacket (you could only see his hand and part of his forearm), whereas he'd had to slip out of it earlier in the episode to escape the Angels. I did notice it but dismissed it as a continuity error, doh! Blush

Damn you, Steven Moffat!

meditrina · 12/09/2011 12:52

We don't know when the pregnant Amy was kidnapped, and her ganger made. So there remain unexplored possibilities for when the Doctor (and possibly the TARDIS) might also have been gangered. If, of course they were, and there is not some other plural time possibility (as in the last episode), either instead, or as well.

AitchTwoOh · 12/09/2011 16:10

can anyone remind me of the boots thing with the ganger doctor? can't think who was wearing what.

MigratingCoconuts · 12/09/2011 18:35

wow!...just, wow!

thanks for the answers

meditrina · 12/09/2011 18:41

AitchtwoOh: The Doctor and the ganger Doctor for some reason had different footwear (anyone know why? Hangers wear th same clothes, don't they - did one change on purpose ?)

Amy saw the ganger (in identifiably plastic form) and clocked the different footwear, so was convinced she knew whites which. The Doctors told her she was wrong, and that anyone could be fooled (reinforced in Demon's Run where Amy did not know her own baby). But were the Doctors being truthful when they said which was which.

Did we see the gangerdoctor get melted? I assumed the doctor who got shot couldn't be a ganger because gangers melt. But if it was realdoc who got left behind to deal with gangerjen and gangerdoc who got on the tardis, could gangerdoc somehow become real through tardispower? meanwhile realdoc escapes the abbey and goes off to do something else timey wimey that will be revealed later/or gets picked up by gangerdoc and they are both on the tardis some of the time or working together or summat?

Hey, and in the last one, Oldamy said that Rory and the doc leave youngamy because she won't help them. And implied this had happened many times before and would continue to happen forevermore. So why did they leave the first time? or was there no first time - ok, I get it now, the first time was just because amy entered a different time stream, thjey never left, but old amy experienced it as them leaving.

EricNorthmansMistress · 12/09/2011 20:43

And why didn't Amy go grey?????

teejwood · 12/09/2011 21:43

Aitch i've watched the ganger eps a few times and can confidently say: the doctor ended up in different shoes because he went out of the castle/monastery to go to the tardis - but he could not get to her because he found her sinking into the ground due to the acid dissolving the earth around/under her.

While he was saying to her "what on earth are you doing down there?" he looked down at his own feet. (And this may be important) Then he looked back up. Then he looked down at his feet again and noticed his shoes were also being dissolved by the acid, went "waaaaah" and jumped out of his shoes. When he went back into the monastery, he asked the workers/gangers for a pair of shoes because he had lost his. Hence why he and the ganger had different shoes. They then switched shoes to fool Amy.

Here's the thing - the Doctor has to point out to Cleaves that the plate he had just taken out of the microwave would be hot; then she suddenly went "Oh!" and dropped the plate - proving to the doctor that she was in fact a ganger whose nerve endings had not yet fused properly. The doctor's reaction to his shoes melting was uncannily similar. Yes maybe it was done like that for comedic value - but maybe there was another message?

teejwood · 12/09/2011 21:45

Also - iirc the gangers were melted by the corporation; they did not automatically melt. And indeed when Buzzer was zapped by the real Cleaves he did not melt. He just looked like a corpse.

teejwood · 12/09/2011 22:07

eric we saw ganger doc (or gangerdoc1?!) turn into slush because of the vibrations from the sonic which were attuned to breaking down the flesh in order to kill jennifer - and also took ganger cleaves with them.

there is a missing hour in the ganger eps, when everyone was knocked out by the power surge caused by the storm - we have no clue what really went on or how many gangers were created during that time.

and eric i also had a rant about the plot of tgww above. it makes sense if old amy says "you never came back for me" and that is why she refuses to help. but add in the bit where she says she remembers the same conversation when she was young, with her older self, when rory obviously did come back, and it makes no sense.

AitchTwoOh · 12/09/2011 23:03

so the real doctor has been wearing ganger boots? or has he come back to the tardis and got another pair of his old boots? must've done, mustn't he? i'd have noticed workboots on him this whole series.

gillyglops · 12/09/2011 23:38

I so loved this episode - I haven't thought too much of Karen Gillan so far, but she showed she could really act, and the chap playing Rory was fantastic too. I think Moffat's Doctor Who has really lacked the emotional depth that RTD put into it, but it was back in this episode, and it made for the best story in ages - real heart-tugging stuff, wonderfully written and acted.
