Doctor Who Series 6 part 2 - the ganger thread

Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

aitch the inference was the real doctor was wearing the workboots after he lost his own shoes and the ganger his normal shoes, as that was what he was wearing when the flesh "read" the doctor in order to make the copy.
but then they swapped to confuse amy - so the "real" doctor was wearing the doctor's shoes and the ganger was wearing the workboots. so he was back in his own shoes anyway....

hands up, i'm probably completely wrong here about there being a second ganger version of the doctor- but if that was the case then he would also be wearing the "right" shoes as the flesh only "read" the doctor when he was in his normal clothes....

teejwood · 13/09/2011 10:37

aitch did you enjoy the god complex btw? the trailer really reminds me of the shining.....
is it too scarey for dcs?

SDTGisAnEvilGenius · 13/09/2011 11:42

I was confused before I read this thread, and now I am really confused. I just hope it will all get explained (in nice, short words, for the terminally dim like myself) by the end of the series (or the thread). Blush

SDTGisAnEvilGenius · 13/09/2011 11:42

Oh - the trailer really reminded me of The Shining, too, teej.

RustyBear · 13/09/2011 13:31

I think I'm going to rewatch the ganger episodes on Sky+ with the subtitles on - just remembered they have them in different colours to show who's speaking. Might shed some light.....

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 13/09/2011 13:38

nah, i didn't think it was that scary. there is a monster, but one that they will likely be familiar with.
i'm sure RTD wanted to do a hotel-set ep, he mentioned it in the diaries. re the boots, because there is a lot of running up and down hallways i became obsessed with who was wearing what boots. probably pointlessly.

teejwood · 13/09/2011 14:29

rusty did they have doc and ganger doc's subtitles in different colours, then? that could be interesting!

aitch thanks for the heads up - i was considering not letting the dcs watch on Saturday but if it's not too bad will just let them go with it.

i just think this whole series is all about alternative timelines/dimensions/duplicates - pretty much every episode - so the death of the doctor is likely to be dealt with in the same way.

btw - does anyone look at the Fourth Dimension stuff on the beeb's doctor who web pages? if so, what do you think the latest missive means?

Dylthan · 13/09/2011 15:23

The doctor said this week that " sometimes knowing your own timeline allows you to change it especially if you're bloody minded, contradictory and completely unpredictable."

I think that line probably gives them a nice get out clause for the doctor dieing.

RustyBear · 13/09/2011 15:38

Don't know yet, I just suddenly thought of it and I'm at work, but I'm going to check when I get home!

OP posts:
teejwood · 13/09/2011 16:34

let's face it, this was never going to be the end.
the doctor was never really going to die (albeit a version of him may do so)
i just hope it's done in a consistent way!

meditrina · 13/09/2011 17:50

Where exactly is the Fourth Dimension bit on the Doctor Who website? I can't find it anywhere? Or is it something cunning and slightly hidden? Can it be got to from and iPad?

Pretty please!

teejwood · 13/09/2011 22:11

med unsure whether you can get it on an ipad

teejwood · 13/09/2011 22:12

AitchTwoOh · 14/09/2011 12:49

i truly do. Grin

teejwood · 14/09/2011 13:12

aitch are you an official telly reviewer for papers/blogs, then? i am also Envy but kind of pity telly reviewers, too. i always think you'd have to watch and have an opinion on all sorts of rubbish you would never dream of switching on otherwise. which might outweigh the potential benefits...

more importantly, this is the one with james corden, no? am not that keen on corden as an actor tbh - but i am toying with watching that S5 ep again in advance just in case i missed anything Grin

AitchTwoOh · 14/09/2011 15:25

it does appear to be that one, judging by end of god complex. no time to watch at the mo, unf.

HarrietJones · 17/09/2011 07:12

Yay, Saturday! Looking fOrward to this one!

AitchTwoOh · 17/09/2011 09:10

are you on the james corden one tonight? it's really enjoyable, i thought. plus... matt smith kissing a baby's head.

HarrietJones · 17/09/2011 09:24

According toIMDB that's next weeks. Tonight is 'God complex'

AitchTwoOh · 17/09/2011 12:20

oh yes. gosh i had to scroll back in the thread to remind myself of what that one was, that's not very confidence-inducing. i did enjoy it at the time.

TashHag · 17/09/2011 20:14

Did that remind anyone else of Terry Pratcett's Small Gods? Not the hotel, but the thing about gods needing faith or they fade away.

QBEE · 17/09/2011 20:34

Bit of a dark one! Scared stiff here! Grin

Domestic violence being made into a joke was picked up by my dc (when Rory says that he thought that it had been amy that had knocked him out and also when he mentioned a time when she had sat down to unlace her shoe calmly before going to hit him with it Hmm)

I also noted that when the Doctor was talking Amy out of his faith in him he made a show of passing ownership to Rory by proclaiming her Mrs Williams Hmm. Fair enough maybe, had she not made a point in previous episodes of keeping Pond and even calling her daughter Pond.

My final gripe is with the 'tell my daughter to come and see her old mum sometime' comment made by Amy. Flippant and odd! She knows that the Doctor is leaving and with him her chances of finding her daughter yet she seems quite 'tell her to pick up a pint of milk and some bread on her way back' about the whole thing Confused

Loved it on the whole though.

Voidka · 17/09/2011 20:34

I think the thing in the Doctor's Room is himself.
