Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

What I would like to know is, where did Amy get that leather jacket? And how come she looks great, but Karen looks awful on confidential - that pink jumper and coat are dreadful!!!!

meditrina · 10/09/2011 20:29

The "in the flesh comment" left me wondering if he meant that he himself was a flesh Doctor. And after today's, possibly in a different time line to the real one.

The possibility of another significant baby in the TARDIS cot I took to refer to the Doctor's descendants (he used to travel with a grand-daughter) - so my guess is its a little River Doctor.

Vengeance · 10/09/2011 20:35

Just to be clear:
The 507 regenerations was a joke.
The 13 regenerations wasn't a biological thing, but a law the Time Lords passed.
No more Tme Lords.
Therefore: endless regenerations.

meditrina · 10/09/2011 20:44

I was wondering if the colour of the Doctor's bow tie was an indicator of Time Lord or ganger. But spotterish DCs assure me it is just random.

Of course "in the flesh" could also mean "in the (ganger) TARDIS" - after all, we've seen her living side, and do not know the capabilities of the plastic. So who is in the real TARDIS (River - being taught to fly her "by the best"?) and what is she up to?

EricNorthmansMistress · 10/09/2011 20:55

I thought it was fantastic and Karen Gillan really acted well. I felt for Rory and old Amy so much, the last scene was heartbreaking.

MigratingCoconuts · 10/09/2011 21:02

thanks Vengeance, that does help...I've long assumed it was a biological thing.

I enjoyed tonight's episode too. strangely upifting!!

Meditrina..your posts have reminded me that a copy of the Doctor was made.....what ever happened to the copy?

HerdOfTinyElephants · 10/09/2011 21:25

Officially he was destroyed when the old monastery with the gangers blew up (because apparently the duplicate Doctor and duplicate boss woman needed to stay and hold the door and couldn't just get safely into the TARDIS, even though everyone stood around having a pointlessly long conversation while the Jennifer-ganger came up the corridor.

But there was some line or other in that episode that suggested it might not be for ever, so we are all alert for possible references...

MigratingCoconuts · 10/09/2011 21:32

thanks Herd! I must admit, I am enjoying trying to spot the twists before they come!

meditrina · 10/09/2011 22:01

Yes, I thought the departing Doctor's comments to the Doctor remaining on ganger island were just ambiguous enough to leave the possibility that the remaining Doctor could yet escape. And that the "test" - could she identify which Doctor was which "no" meant that a ganger doctor could indeed live on the TARDIS with real Rory (isn't part of his brain Nestene plastic anyhow) and idc real Amy too.

Destroying the shot Doctor's body by flames is what needs to be done to a defunct Time Lord (The Master was cremated), but might also be a way of disguising plasticity before it melted. This does mean River needed to know all, and to be aware of some circumstance or other surrounding this development that made it emotional for her. This needn't be his death - it could be one step closer to the fate of The Good Man.

Voidka · 10/09/2011 22:09

I really liked it - shed a few tears by the end.

It was the best Rory had been, and it was nice to see some good acting from KG.

Loved the Rory robot and when Rory asked if 2 Amys would work and the Doctor said 'I dunno, its your marriage'.

Next weeks looks like a scary one.

PortBlacksandPort · 10/09/2011 23:27

Where did she get her 200+ packets of 'light auburn' hair dye from??? The one that covers the greys - even the thick wiry ones?

....and why, even after 36 years of hell, wasn't their 'dual thought' the baby girl they had lost? .... i sure as hell know it would have been mine - not some stupid dance craze....

PortBlacksandPort · 10/09/2011 23:28

Agree that Rory (Arthur) has been great this series .....

teejwood · 10/09/2011 23:30

great ep - not a dry eye in this house at the end - well, except dp was was laughing at the rest of us Hmm

meditrina i'm on bow tie watch too - you are not alone Wink i said on the last thread - in the ganger episode, the doctor said that they were all knocked out for an hour and that a lot could happen in an hour. there were two copies of jen - why not the doctor too (or anyone else for that matter)?

so i still think the doctor who dies is a ganger. the doctor has never gone through history drawing attention to himself in the way he did in TIA. i think it was a strategy to bring real doc and ganger doc together. arguably, 10 having a short lived marriage to the virgin queen wasn't exactly subtle - but then that seems to have been hushed up in the history books Wink

river i think really did believe the doctor was dead and was just arranging for him to have a proper TL funeral. it was canton who brought the right fuel etc to burn the body, as ordered by the doctor. she slapped him and said something along the lines of "this is too cold, even for you" when they met in the cafe afterwards. although river lies, just as the doctor lies....

also there was that wierd thing in the cafe in TIA where the doctor said he was 9 hundred odd years old, yet the doctor who dealt with George said he was that age a thousand years ago. could just be shorthand, could be an indicator that we are watching the adventures of the doctor who dies.

finally, sorry this is turning into a bit of an essay, someone made an interesting comment in Confidential that tonight's episode marks a turning point in rory's relationship with the doctor. maybe the good man turns on his time travelling friend?

teejwood · 10/09/2011 23:32

portblack it was the tune playing when amy first kissed rory, hence why it was so important.

PortBlacksandPort · 10/09/2011 23:38

ahhh i see thanks Teej...

....so singing it to make them kiss stopped their children from disappearing from future photos Grin ....hang on ....might have got a bit mixed up here Wink

teejwood · 10/09/2011 23:43

portblack i have noted my slight issue with the whole daughter disappearing thing and have concluded that a) either it's a bit of a stretch in terms of credibility or
b) we're seeing two tardises, two crews, and ergo one lot who maybe were never aware of baby mels in the first place.
i fear the real answer lies in option a) Grin

PortBlacksandPort · 10/09/2011 23:48

Hmmmm - both could be very good explanations Teej ....

i like the idea that - although i thought that the dead Dr in TIA was a ganger ... i never thought he could be the ganger we have been watching all along...

....so where is the real one? Looking for Melody?

teejwood · 11/09/2011 00:03

ok - going with that theory - we may be seeing both teams in different eps, so real ones in agmgtw and lkh - looking for mels
gangers in nt and tgww - no mention of river
it's slightly more tricky to tell before the whole birth thing Grin

there is another wierd thing, though. old amy changed her mind about helping rory in tgww. and she said the doctor and rory just went off in the tardis without amy. i just find it odd that rory would leave without her - especially so soon after losing melody and given that he had waited 2000 years on earth. maybe there was another amy/old amy/rory etc in the same place on different time streams who did not quite have the same emotional connections?
there must be some reason for all this odd behaviour iykwim. or else it is just inconsistencies in in characters/scripts, which would be a bit disappointing.

Arcadie · 11/09/2011 01:07

Not a bleddy clue what's going on in terms of gangers or no (but agree that there is more to be seen this series from the gangers) but just thought that tonight was the first proper acting I've seen Karen Gillan do and that this should be celebrated.

And Rory was JUST GORGEOUS in his last scene. sob

cornsylk · 11/09/2011 04:15

I think there is more to come about Amy. She made the sonic screwdriver herself etc and seemed to have reverted to a River- like character. Whereas usually she is a bit dippy.

Dylthan · 11/09/2011 07:17

I think this all might go back to the "Amy's choice" episode last series.

There just seems to be too much choosing between which life they want to keep.

Amy was also heavily pregnant in one of the "Amy's choice" realities

MigratingCoconuts · 11/09/2011 08:27

cornsylk, I noticed that about Amy too. That struck me as being way more than just 36 years of survival savvy. She seemed positively genius.

Unless that computer in the ceiling thingy was feeding her the info.....

AitchTwoOh · 11/09/2011 09:12

i think karen gillan has been SO much better in this series, less pouting-as-acting this time round. and the rory guy got some great space from her in this episode, really showed his chops i thort.

HarrietJones · 11/09/2011 15:16

Whoever said about the dr & the colour of bow ties, the doctor who adventures comic has a free bow tie but there's 2 colours...

meditrina · 11/09/2011 15:18

We got the blue one Grin
