Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

Regarding regeneration. At one of the earlier regenerations (1st or 2nd in original series) we saw a whole lot of previous bodies he had been - eg Leonardo da Vinci (if I recall correctly) so he was well past the figure of 13 or whatever it was a while ago.

However, I tend to regard the most recent ones as separate, really, with their own internal rules differing a bit from the older ones.

Did anyone clock the Master in his scientist form, just because he looked like the William Hartnell Dr Who?

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/09/2011 19:27

Good idea ScatterChase. You can only remember them when you are actually looking at them, could the eyepatch actually be showing you a constant picture of them all the time? Like a little personal TV screen?

MigratingCoconuts · 25/09/2011 19:29

I'm currently watching the library episode!

my DH thinks I'm nuts Grin

NotJustKangaskhan · 25/09/2011 20:35

meditrina Wright-Patterson is a real airbase in the States - but it's in Ohio and it's the main intelligence base in the States. I'm guessing the intelligence part is why they used the name - as wink-wink reference as it's also often part of conspiracy theories.

Am I the only one who was excited to see Aunt Mabel in the episode? The kids surprisingly missed it, they love Come Outside, but my husband and I were poking each other.

MollieO · 25/09/2011 21:57

Ds (7) was watching and starting shouting at the sight of Aunt Mabel. He did think she was wearing a lot of make up though!

I'm hoping she will be in next week's episode and fly off in her plane to save the Doctor. Grin

meditrina · 25/09/2011 22:06

Ooh thought on the eyepatches being a Silence watching device.

I did wonder if one of the Rivers might grow up to become Mme Kevorian - assuming that is the time line that "wins" (see River in the Confidential clip - describing those 3 children who saw the/a Doctor for the last time as being just one possible version). Two stories of two Doctors in parallel - one must die - which one will which River shoot?

AitchTwoOh · 25/09/2011 22:18

so what was the last shot you saw in this episode, guys?

ScatterChasse · 25/09/2011 22:25

River in a space suit, floating in some water.

Would air bubbles really come out though? I thought a space suit was completely enclosed, not like scuba diving. But I suppose it's all alien tech.

BlueKangaroo22 · 25/09/2011 22:42

No wait! Hang on I am confused now, I just realised when The doctor dropped off amy and rory, amy says if you see my daughter tell her to come and visit her mum.....so my theory is now completely ballsed up! But he gets the tardis blue envelopes from craigs house, and amy and rory recieve the letter at the beginning of the series...but mind you he does have a time machine so he could send them anywhere...right?

Fuck me I'm confused now!

teejwood · 25/09/2011 23:19

anyone think that the astronaut suit river was in and the suit we saw in TIA were not quite one and the same? maybe it's just because she's floating in the water, but.... mmmm dunno...

i still want to know why Amy's house was too big, with a level that was not there - grrrrr

in fact i have quite a few questions about the last two series mr moffatt if you have a mo.... Hmm

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/09/2011 23:53

The trailer for next week shows that River has been made to forget The Silence (her owners), and knowledge that Amy and Rory were her parents must have been removed at some point too. In The Impossible Astronaut Amy is wearing the red shirt, so Amy was gangered at some point before The Impossible Astronaut and Amy and Rory's minds wiped of any knowledge of their daughter at the same time.

EricNorthmansMistress · 26/09/2011 07:53

But time hasn't gone in a circle, has it? I mean, the Doctor who took the envelopes from Craig's house is the 'other' Doctor, ie his timeline is 200 years later than the one we think we have been following throughout this series. He made an appearance in the first and latest episodes (and ??? in between). Although this doesn't explain why Amy and Rory were searching for the Doctor for months at the beginning of the series - anyone remember how the last one ended?

Dylthan · 26/09/2011 08:24

With Amy and Rory's wedding I think.

TashHag · 26/09/2011 09:50

But Amy and Rory spent their wedding night on the TARDIS - that was when Melody was conceived - then they went off to honeymoon on the space liner that nearly crashed in the Christmas special. But between that and the start of this series, there was the Children in Need special, where Amy was wearing the 'ganger' shirt, but with a skirt - and where there was a bit of timey-wimey stuff with two Amys....

MigratingCoconuts · 26/09/2011 18:19

I am also confused that our Amy and Rory know that River is their daughter but the Amy and Rory at the start of the whole series clearly didn't.

So, which Amy does he write the note to and on which timeline??

ps. I thinks its a bit ironic that the first time The Doctor meets River, she is wearing a space suit!

Dylthan · 26/09/2011 22:21

I think Amy and Rory's timeline is probably similar to river songs now and their not meeting the doctor in the correct order anymore.

teejwood · 27/09/2011 22:15

ohhhh - speaking of River's timeline, Dylthan, the BBC website now says:
"Immediately after the episode, switch to BBC Three for Doctor Who Confidential. It features the brand new mini-adventure, Death is the Only Answer, and a must-see look at River Song's timeline."

So looks like we may get some answers as to her timeline Grin

CrackerFactory · 27/09/2011 22:33

I am so confused can anyone simplify this at all?

HarrietJones · 27/09/2011 22:33

Tick tock goes the clock til River kills the Doctor

teejwood · 27/09/2011 22:37

harriet have you listened to the rhyme in the prequel yet?

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/09/2011 23:13

Ooh, the official BBC site has preview pics up - The Doctor wearing one of those eyepatches!

teejwood · 27/09/2011 23:19

Ohhhhh!!!! They were the photos I saw the other day!!! Aren't they FAB????!!!

teejwood · 27/09/2011 23:20

image 8 makes me smile every time Smile

meditrina · 28/09/2011 00:06

IIRC, the Silence is a religion not a race. So perhaps the patch is what distinguishes human (and Time Lord) adherents to the faith?

meditrina · 28/09/2011 00:09

And then they'd be coming after the Doctor because he's attacked a stronghold of them on earth. And they are trying to do it BEFORE he destroys them (so they don't get destroyed) - so they need River, a Time Traveller, to be the weapon.
