Old thread's getting full, so here's a nice new acid-resistant one...

OP posts:

Amy's room was number 7; young Amy was in it, watching and waiting for the return of the doctor. This represented Amy's fear, her fear of being abandoned.

The Doctor's room was number 11 (ho ho ho); we never got to see what he feared most, he put a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door.

TipOfTheSlung · 22/09/2011 18:54

I reckon it was River Song in there

TipOfTheSlung · 22/09/2011 18:58

Migrating- having had a google it does seem he is right

MigratingCoconuts · 22/09/2011 19:22

Gosh! Blush

Why do i think they had different colour bowties in the episode?

MigratingCoconuts · 22/09/2011 19:23

I really am totally confused, with a first class degree in muddled. Confused

fantus · 22/09/2011 19:31

Thanks WhereYouLeftIt, I thought it was the doctors because of the do not disturb sign Confused

midnightservant · 22/09/2011 19:39

What was that about the fish? "Bring the fish, Amy" said the dr.

Where did the people come from - why some it seemed from the Earth of now, plus one random alien, the Moleman?

Why did it have things people feared (eg gambler and dummies) when it was about losing faith?

How did the Dr get them a house and car?

Boggle.

Xales · 22/09/2011 20:12

Don't know if this has been said but was wondering if the Dr's room being number 11 and the bell tolling had anything to do with him being the 11th Dr and being killed/dying.

teejwood · 22/09/2011 21:19

When the doctor opened door 11 (yes, definately his door!) he heard the Cloister Bell which normally means the end of time/the universe/the multiverse etc OR when the tardis is under attack/malfunctioning badly - something that endangers the existence of the tardis and the doctor themselves.

What he said was "Of course, who else?"; I think he would most hate to lose the tardis, so perhaps he saw "sexy" falling to pieces - hence the Cloister Bell? Alternatively, given that we know the person he hates most is himself, he could have seen himself. Confused

sorry meant to start with
"i took it as..."
Blush

teejwood · 22/09/2011 21:26

fantus the do not disturb sign we saw at the end was from another door - not door 7. the doctor follows the beast into the corridor and the sign is on a door to his left. i don't think we see whether it is door 11

i might have rewatched this ep last night while dp was out - can you tell? Blush

teejwood · 22/09/2011 21:36

midnight the doctor said the hotel showed people their greatest fears so they would fall back on their faith to give them courage. so their faith would be strengthened rather than lost. once their faith was raised to the surface, the beast would then get the person to convert it to strong faith in him (how exactly wasn't explained - we assume through some sort of psychic connection), this made them "ripe" and then he was able to consume them.

also re the house etc - it has been suggested that the doctor has over the years built up reserves of cash/properties etc. we have seen that if all else fails he can zap a cash machine with the sonic to get funds! so it would be easy for him to buy them a house and car. we may ask exactly when he did this, though Wink

WhereYouLeftIt · 22/09/2011 21:43

The 9th Doctor (Ecclestone) used his sonic screwdriver on that big news station to get a credit card with unlimited credit on it. And didn't Tennant point it at a cashpoint and make it spew notes to form a distraction to let him and Donna get away from the pilot fish in the Christmas episode? I don't think he struggles with getting money. After all, he can always nip back, make a deposit, nip forward and pick up decades of compound interest!

teejwood · 22/09/2011 21:49

yy whereyou - would be quite handy, eh? Grin

teejwood · 23/09/2011 10:59

forgive me fellow ganger threaders for i have sinned Blush

came across a linky to promo shots for the last ep and i could not resist

in my defense i was slightly spoiled for the last ep anyway, due to a news piece in the US that ran a while back, so i thought i wouldn't see anything i hadn't seen anyway. i was wrong...

all i will say is omfg....... Shock

whatkungfuthat · 23/09/2011 12:56

I wondered if River in the eyepatch was in the Doctor's room. Teej I am now resisting the urge to google for the linky...

EdithWeston · 23/09/2011 13:01

ScatterChase - good thought! Ganger Amy never changed clothes: real Amy can.

I think the (ganger) Doctor saw the real Doctor in room 11.

Could Madame Kovarian be a future River Song?

BlueKangaroo22 · 23/09/2011 13:59

:O teej can you pm me the link I can't find it! :)

teejwood · 23/09/2011 14:28

kungfu the link seems to have been taken down but they now seem to be up somewhere else.

if the bbc is doing its best to sit on these i am not surprised as they are much more revealing than anything we have seen on the official trailers so far. i thought they would be similar. i was wrong.

Grin
teejwood · 23/09/2011 14:30

scatter yy i think you are right in that it has been much more complex than just the doctor = one bow tie and ganger doc = another. exactly what the key is, i haven't worked that out, yet!
Confused

teejwood · 23/09/2011 14:34
fantus · 23/09/2011 18:42

Thanks for putting me straight everyone. So next question is, if the things in the rooms are supposed to reinforce each persons faith then wouldn't Amy seeing herself as a young girl be reminded that the doc did abandon her and didn't come back therefore lessening her faith in him? Just a thought Grin

MigratingCoconuts · 23/09/2011 20:14

ok...so caught a repeat of last week's episode and its very clear that young amy is in room 7 (Amy's room) and its not the Doctor's. That the last room to fade as the Minator dies is the Doctor's room and the 'do not disturb' sign flaots off it.. I infer from this that the speech about an old traveller in time welcoming death (from minator) is to do with what was in the Doctor's room.

The Doctor was wearing a blue bowtie all episode but then in the trailer for saturday, its red.

The Mole man ate the fish.

Nothing else makes the slightest bit fo sense though Grin

EdithWeston · 23/09/2011 23:14

I watched, and couldn't make sense of the fish (not helped by interference patterns from Douglas Adams!)
