just seen a trailer with the gorgeous Captain Jack and Gwen. No idea when it will be shown bit I'm so happyyyy. We really thought they'd killed it off with the last series.

Anyone know when it's coming??!!

I'm wondering if the fanny is actually an alien that got stuck in the middle of the earth and needs Vortex energy to return home, which is why it is 'calling to'Jack? Somehow Confused the families detected it in Jack and realised they could use his blood as a Blessing detector?

AitchTwoOh · 09/09/2011 15:50

yyy to sudden psycho rhys, that was utter bolleaux. and now you are on, what, the last ep next? what FUN!

AitchTwoOh · 09/09/2011 15:51

oh, and it is a giant fanny hole cleaving the world in twain, isn't it? i mean there is no other interpretation, is there?

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/09/2011 16:38

Thanks for that explanation teejwood. I am still bewildered, but by Esther rather than the plot. Why does Jack let her take the blood? Why so much? Why does she take a caseload of it to Argentina? What is she hoping to do with it? Actually, why were the Italians taking it from him in the 1920s, come to think of it. I think that was maybe explained but I have forgotten the explanation.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 09/09/2011 17:43

I've been lurking on this thread for a while and have a few questions for those of you more knowledgeable than me if that's ok?

I started watching from Children of Earth, then this series, which I was enjoying (especially because some of it was filmed down the road Grin) until I rented series 1! Shock I just can't believe it's the same series, the older eps are so superior. I can completely understand all you true fans being a bit Sad and Angry. And there are so many inconsistencies in the plot, why oh why are they carrying blood in a suitcase ffs?! And if Jack's blood is 'drawn' to the blessing (and why's it called that!?) then why aren't the pouches of blood drawn to it too? And I've never watched dr who, what's the Racnoss ship? And I know who Rose is but when did she meet Jack and what did she do to him and why?

I'm with those of you missing Ianto too Sad

pinkteddy · 09/09/2011 18:23

MissTina,

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/09/2011 20:58

MissTina, don't stop at series 1. Series 2 maintains the same standards. Smile

teejwood · 09/09/2011 21:46

ok, to be fair to the dimwit esther, i can see that there seemed to be a point of collecting jack's blood when he was in the butcher's. so she could have assumed that the people overseeing the miracle had used jack's blood in some way.

and i can see that if somehow he is at odds with the blessing, if his blood was used to empower it, his damaged (ie non-regenerative) blood might be bad for it (the blessing that is)

so esther might be thinking jack's blood is an antidote for the whole thing.

but it is still a bit mad taking so much blood from someone recuperating from a gunshot wound that has actually become infected, so they have had to recover from an infection too. it has left him weak in the face of the final battle.

then again, it is sci-fi and not RL Grin

teejwood · 09/09/2011 21:51

misstina the chronology of TW goes something like:
series 1: rude, crude, mad, bad - with aliens - but kitsch and fun
series 2: still rude, crude, mad, bad - with aliens - but kitch and fun - and with better production values
series 3: awesome
series 4: ummmm. mixed.

so don't fear series 2!

teejwood · 09/09/2011 21:53

(sorry meant to say was agreeing with dumbledoresgirl there Smile)

teejwood · 09/09/2011 21:55
  • and finally - following the logic of the drop of blood running towards the blessing - does anyone else have an image of a briefcase full of blood rocking from side to side in a john wayne style walk towards it, too? Hmm
teejwood · 09/09/2011 22:00

rusty maybe the blessing has the core of the earth as a timeshare with the racnoss and the silurians?
not sure about it returning home with vortex energy, though. it seems quite happy as it is - i mean if the families are keeping it content 'n' all??

RustyBear · 09/09/2011 22:03

Well, maybe it wants the vortex energy for something else? No idea, really Grin

'It's all about the blood' was another Buffyism, of course...

MissTinaTeaspoon · 09/09/2011 22:19

I'm not scared of series 2! We've watched ep 1 already Smile! Although I'm not looking forward to Owen dying Sad (not so worried about Tosh though Grin)

teejwood · 09/09/2011 22:51

misstina i still cry at owen and tosh - more so than ianto as a matter of fact Sad

rusty i have to say i am a bit stumped as to what exactly the family or the blessing wants with jack. maybe they don't - maybe they got what they needed back in the day and he is now a danger to them instead? after all, weren't they quite happily trying to kill him, knowing he was now mortal? so i think their game plan progresses without him rather than with him

all the bits that were flying into the fanny - were they blood cells or maybe "alive" dust from the incinerated cat 1's? i have to say it kind of reminded me of little shop of horrors - i was half expecting the blessing to shout out "feed me jilly, feed me noooooow!"

MadameOvary · 10/09/2011 00:55

As soon as I saw Jacks blood rolling across the floor I thought that's what the Fanny is - it's Jacks blood!

No idea how or why of course! Grin

AitchTwoOh · 10/09/2011 01:02

hey guys i am watching a thing called The Triangle, it's coming up in a couple of weeks on FX. you geeky types should record it... i'm about 45 mins into the first ep and it's pretty good. (apart from lead actress's nose job).

NotDavidTennant · 10/09/2011 09:53

Anyone else think they should have called this series Torchwood: Fanjos of Earth?

teejwood · 10/09/2011 23:36
SquongebobSparepants · 11/09/2011 14:02

I haven't watched it yet. Marking place but I Will Be Back.

It says a lot that I have not watched it, nor been bothered enought o look it up on iplayer...

talkingnonsense · 12/09/2011 12:21

I'm going to have to look at a map, but aren't shanghai and buenos ares both in the southern hemisphere? So a hole between them wouldn't have to go through the centre of the earth/ racnoss ship?

And is anyone else infuriated with the lacing of this again- why be het up over the ovens, then jump two months? Why have one past flashback for jack and not lots, and why not at the beginning to set up the alien/ long life thing for new viewers? And why have triangle people invaded the CIA but as far as we can tell nowhere else?

I found the pacing a problem with earlier torchwood anyway, Ianto never had time to grieve for Lisa before he jumped off with jack, they never got their "date", kiss kiss bang bang was great and funny but they didn't keep that tone, after Owen " died" the first time we suddenly had 1000 traumatic past experiences for him ( ever heard os SUBTLETY), why did Jack revive him, who was the weird girl, how come in c of e he suddenly had kids, why didn't they think about Ianto being at risk, etc etc etc.

Gosh that was a rant! I need a torchwood forum!

ameliapond · 12/09/2011 13:16

I have seen the last episode and it will answer a lot of questions that have arisen. It does leave more questions to be answered though

It is, by far the best episode of the series.

talkingnonsense There is a forum called Gallifrey Base that is predominantly Dr Who, but there is a very active TW section on there.

AMumInScotland · 12/09/2011 13:31

No Shanghai is in the Northern hemisphere, so it's ok, the line would go through the middle. Though what it would bump into on the way through is another question Grin

whatkungfuthat · 15/09/2011 10:59

I'm looking forward to tonight's but I'm not sure if its because I think it will be good or I just want it to be over. I caught a bit of JB on Loose Women yesterday and he said that although people have complained about it not being like the Torchwood that has gone before, without the US involvement there would be no more TW. Why is this the case when it is clearly popular and the BBC still have the money to make far shitter programmes? Confused

LadyMontdore · 15/09/2011 14:05

We haven't watched Torchwood since a few eps in series one or two and haven't watched any of the new Dr Who's since one ages ago that involved a big space ship hovering over London and everyone standing in lines like zombies.

We are really enjoying it though. Many questions though - is Jack an Alien, is he friends with Dr WHo and what happened to the other torchwood people? Briefly!
