just seen a trailer with the gorgeous Captain Jack and Gwen. No idea when it will be shown bit I'm so happyyyy. We really thought they'd killed it off with the last series.

Anyone know when it's coming??!!

OP posts:

OK, Aitch will do. Only another 3 hours to go I suppose Wink

PortBlacksandIsLovelyInAutumn · 18/08/2011 23:30

Ok so here is the question i really want answered...

...when Esther thought she had killed him...

...WHY DIDN'T SHE PUT HER FUCKING HIGH HEEL THROUGH HIS NECK?????????????

teejwood · 18/08/2011 23:41

And you see, right there, Port has a point. Also, which is she (Esther)? Brave and strong enough to strangle a man in order to stay alive, or 2 minutes later too wimpy to put up much of a fight?! Crying that the authorities have her name when she is ALREADY a wanted "traitor to the state" operating undercover? Such an inconsistent character.

PortBlacksandIsLovelyInAutumn · 18/08/2011 23:46

oOOH OOH and just a million couple more inconsistencies...

..How did Gwen know that they burn cat 1 in ovens? - she hadn't seen it as far as i remember... Yet it took three USA Torchwoodians and a whole episode to find it out?

And - if you had kidnapped Gwen's family - why not just answer Rhys's phone and tell her instead of making her put the eyes in???

I'm not getting something here......Confused

HarrietJones · 19/08/2011 06:40

thanks Aitch!

AitchTwoOh · 19/08/2011 09:08

i wish to draw your attention to my use of 'in a way'. i would recommend having a drink to enjoy it all the more.

teejwood · 19/08/2011 09:11

Aitch i did wonder if you were slightly damning with faint praise above but if you at least got a whoop out of it then i'll hang in there....Grin

BertieBotts · 19/08/2011 09:19

Why didn't they give Rex the contact lenses too? Would have been more use than that video camera - it was too obvious not to get intercepted, and no immediate feedback to the rest of torchwood either. Or, if he could hide a video camera without being searched, surely he could have hidden a mobile phone. Which has a camera on it too. By the time they saw the video, he could just tell them what he'd seen. And why when Esther couldn't get hold of Vera did she not text Jack or someone?

BertieBotts · 19/08/2011 09:27

I thought the Esther bit when she strangled him was believable/ok. She'd never been trained to kill, or anything, so was just acting on adrenaline and once that was broken (when she'd run away) it's understandable she'd be different. And wouldn't think to make sure he really was dead.

I want to know why he fell unconscious when he was shot, whereas Vera just writhed around on the floor in agony. He was shot through the back as well, not losing as much blood as she was! And Rex said a few episodes back that he was conscious all through the time he had his accident and came into the hospital. How come the category 1s are that way, when people weren't in that state in the beginning?

If I wasn't pregnant I'd be playing the Torchwood MD drinking game - every time I or MrNC burst out with "oh for fuck's sake", have a drink!

This ep had some good bits (some plot!) in between the dross.
MrNC says all CIA agents, even desk ones, have had combat training, so Esther was being unrealistically crap there - until suddenly doing some great karate kicks! And I predicted he was going to grab her by the ankle over two minutes in advance.

Gwen seems to have had a haircut since last week and remembered how to act, possibly by blotting out Jack's memories of how to do so. And a box of explosives in the middle of a camp masquerading as a hospital???

Stuart Owens might become an interesting character given half a chance and a script, though. I do wonder whether RTD and pals had enough material for say 8 eps and were told to pad it out - taking so long to conclude that there were concentration camps and OMG this is WRONG!!! was just painful.

Jack's new totty looks quite decorative, so hopefully that will help next week, but it's really getting to the stage where JB's body can't redeem the show...

ExitPursuedByATroll · 19/08/2011 09:56

When I asked DD after last night's episode who she thought the voice belonged to and who was behind it all - making various suggestions about Dr Who's enemies she said "Oh, are there aliens in it?" We are waiting......

Quenelle · 19/08/2011 09:57

Just at daft Gwen-escaping-exploding-facility-on-motorbike scene...

MummyDoIt · 19/08/2011 10:21

I can't help thinking they could have done this storyline a lot better as a five part, shown every night for a week, mini-series like Children of Earth was. There is way too much spinning it out. I'm tempted to record the last three and watch them in one go to cut down on the frustration.

RustyBear · 19/08/2011 11:31

BertieBotts -Gwen explained earlier that the lenses were tuned to her body, or something like that (ie convenient plot device so she had to go on the first spy-trip)

Though that does raise the question of when they were made - before or after the Hub was destroyed? and how did they make the ones Lois wore in Children of Earth, if they weren't the ones Martha wore in series 2. (Though that question could have been avoided if Freema Agyeman had not gone off to do Law and Order instead of Children of Earth)

HarrietJones · 19/08/2011 12:39

I assumed it was part of her torchwood kit rather than general torchwood kit.

RustyBear · 19/08/2011 12:49

But where did the ones Lois wore come from?

teejwood · 19/08/2011 13:11

grrr had a post and lost it.
rusty you remember correctly, she said they were specifically for her eyes and i assumed that when she said they were the only things she had left from the old days she meant from before the hub was destroyed.
and yet you're right - how did other people get them, especially after the hub was destroyed (assuming that is where they were made, perhaps by Tosh??). perhaps they had a small supply that were "blank" when manufactured, which then mapped themselves genetically onto the person who first wears them? Confused

teejwood · 19/08/2011 13:13

mummy yes - i think as a five parter andwithbetteractors it would have been much tighter, faster-paced and more engaging. As a 10-parter?

HarrietJones · 19/08/2011 14:20

I thought similar Tee

MummyDoIt · 19/08/2011 14:46

I thought there was some aside from Gwen or Jack that they'd made that bit up about the lenses being tuned to one person to make sure it was Gwen who was sent in, not either of the CIA people. Or maybe I nodded off and dreamt that bit!

MugglesandLuna · 19/08/2011 15:28

Mummy - I think you are right. When she said it she looked at Jack and they shared a smile, like they both new she was fibbing.

BertieBotts · 19/08/2011 18:31

I thought so too. Though if they only had one pair then fair enough. For some reason I thought there were loads of pairs in the little jar thing.

Still - he could have had a phone with camera.

Acekicker · 20/08/2011 15:47

Another one agreeing that if it had been a 5-parter it would have zipped along and probably been pretty good.

The thing is, the premise is excellent, some of the stuff that they've done has been pretty good but there has been so much tedious filler (eg the entire episode devoted to the US flight, the non-plot with the guy out of 3rd Rock, Esther fannying about with her sister). The edit suite should be their friend, and yet seemingly it's sealed tighter than the bloody Pandorica as there's nothing to indicate anything got cut!

AitchTwoOh · 20/08/2011 19:14

the non-plot with the guy out of third rock? what was that?
