just seen a trailer with the gorgeous Captain Jack and Gwen. No idea when it will be shown bit I'm so happyyyy. We really thought they'd killed it off with the last series.

Anyone know when it's coming??!!

the basic premise, though... 'what if no-one dies?'... oh gosh i LOVE that. LOOOOOVE.

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 00:48

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh. just checked my feed and i have ALL THE EPS. no time to watch them until sunday night, but will have full on 8,9 and 10 jack-binge.

RustyBear · 13/08/2011 08:28

Jack isn't necessarily an alien because he was born on a different planet - lots of human colonies in the 51st century. Though he may no longer be technically a human either, with TARDIS life force in him...

And the Doctor repaired Jack's armband so they could get back to Earth chasing the Master (end of Utopia/beginning of Sound of Drums) but he modified it again when Jack returned to Cardiff, taking away the time-travelling function and presumably the teleport function too - Jack does lots of stuff with it but as far as I remember he doesn't teleport in the Torchwood episodes- when he left Earth at the end of Children of Earth, he used it to hitch a lift from a passing spaceship, but it was presumably the ship's own teleport that got him on board. (The bit I can't remember is how he got to and from the TARDIS at the end of Series 4)

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 08:52

Dr says at some point about humans colonising the universe.

KatyMac · 13/08/2011 09:26

Aitch would you like a house guest? I can bring cake, wine & homemade fudge?

teejwood · 13/08/2011 09:32

i think the last time jack definitively used the vortex manipulator was during the stolen earth episodes during tennant's last full series; he got information from martha that helped him fix it iirc

but there was an implication that he used it in some way to get a ride on the passing spaceship at the end of CoE.

Envy at aitch having a back-to-back torchwood session on sunday Grin yes it might be far from perfect but i still want to know what happens!!

teejwood · 13/08/2011 09:34

yy harriet - but it's never made clear whether jack is human or humanoid. he's obviously human enough for the mechanics to work when it comes to interpersonal relationships, though.... Wink

teejwood · 13/08/2011 09:36

oh and re the vortex manipulator, even then i think it only got back its teleporting functionality

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 10:51

have watched ep 8... he uses the vortex manipulator to scan something so it deffo works in some fashion. even if the dr has nixed the time travel it is still annoying (plot-wise) that its functionality is undefined.

teejwood · 13/08/2011 11:14

aitch ep 8 any better than the previous ones in terms of pace, action, enjoyability? i was assuming we would get a run of halfway decent eps as we came to the finale... kind of similar pacing to a typical US miniseries...

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 11:15

yep, but like you say, mostly better cos it's building to an end.

Pixel · 13/08/2011 15:30

I expect he used it as a scanner to find the passing spaceship and then get in contact, or maybe to signal anyone passing that he was after a lift? Then it was down to a bit of "beam me up Scotty" Grin Mind you, if it's that easy I would imagine Donna's grandad would have had something a bit more interesting to look at through his telescope by now. Wink

Suicide club?

HarrietJones · 18/08/2011 21:59

aitch as a v hormonal mother can you confirm that the rest is safe for me to watch?

talkingnonsense · 18/08/2011 22:08

Any opinions on tonight's? Didn't really seem to get anywhere- why did chinese spy join the45club? And what is jack remembering that he could've remembered earlier? But go gwen for taking him off to die!

vogonmothership · 18/08/2011 22:17

yup another ep of nothingness
Pre LA sensible Gwen would have put a helmet on tho and had a vest on under her leathers
tsk

2shoes · 18/08/2011 22:18

omg I wish it was the old trorchwood, i feel taping it and speeding it up

AitchTwoOh · 18/08/2011 22:21

oh yes fear not, your maternal hormones will not be troubled.

MummyDoIt · 18/08/2011 22:22

Mostly padding tonight. Those contact lenses Gwen has are alien tech. Did the voice who spoke to her at the end belong to the original owner? Someone (or something) from Jack's past?

Flossie69 · 18/08/2011 22:33

I thought that Esther was quite annoyingly ineffectual for most of the episode. And it is moving veeeerrry slowly. When are the aliens going to show?

teejwood · 18/08/2011 22:42

talking i think we're supposed to believe that the chinese spy was so horrified by whatever he found, he felt that there was no point anymore so why not join the 45club...

agree tonight was the ep of not much happening (again) as Aitch had forewarned. but it's not just that, is it? you can have not much happening over the course of an ep but you are so bought into the characters you're happy just to be in their company for an hour. honestly, i was half willing the looney camp commendant to finish off Rex & (especially!) Esther. I mean, when she first kind of killed him, I thought oh! getting some hutzpah at last! and then she goes pathetically blub-tastic again - grrrrrr....

Aitch did you finish the series last weekend as planned? if so please tell me there is any point at all in staying tuned in?!

teejwood · 18/08/2011 22:44

commandant

AitchTwoOh · 18/08/2011 23:20

i was HOOTING and WHOOPING at the last ep. it is quite, quite brilliant. (in a way). stick with it, you're so close you can nearly taste it.
