just seen a trailer with the gorgeous Captain Jack and Gwen. No idea when it will be shown bit I'm so happyyyy. We really thought they'd killed it off with the last series.

Anyone know when it's coming??!!

I agree Aitch, it's just so god damn slow too, I might have to watch children of earth again to cleanse this turgid, banal ,mess from my mind.

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:41

nihilistic the important thing to remember about this series of dw is that while not everyone's a ging-er everyone's a ganger

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:46

it is utterly mystifying, teej.

jack does get a good doctor who line, though, in ep 7. that's what i miss, i think. great, witty, fun lines. this show isn't camp enough, but no-one's told johnny jizz hands. (did i just write that? i surely did).

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:48

even buffy, right, was a small show. sure, she was battling the forces of evil, but she still had to get her homework done. this is all too conventional, imo. i am surprised that jane espenson isn't more to the fore, as well, for she is brilliant.

Pixel · 12/08/2011 23:52

I've always thought of Jack as human. By the 51st century humans are bound to have colonised other planets (although the BoShane Peninsula could easily be on Earth) but being born somewhere else wouldn't make him an alien would it?

I'm feeling quite sad about what they've done to Torchwood. They've obviously spent an enormous amount on it but they've lost its heart.

pinkteddy · 12/08/2011 23:53

Agree that Torchwood has lost its heart. I'm surprised that Jane Espenson wrote last nights episode - I absolutely loved Buffy. I'd be interested to know the ratings for this series and if numbers have dropped off. Does anyone know?

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:54

that's true, i'm pretty sure the suns were different but it could have been a colony. what's the relevance of his humanity again? i have forgotten. was it something to do with NOT USING THE WHOPPING GREAT TIME TRAVELLING WATCH ON HIS ARM TO ESCAPE? i mean wtf?

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:55

did she write last night's too? i am all over the place with the eps. i know she wrote the one where the doc and mekhi p got together. can i just say that the fact that i do not know his character name is not a good sign?

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:56

yy - too formulaic; not quirky enough
"johnny jizz-hands"

good grief aitch they won't be looking forward to your reviews Wink
wonder if rusty will do a writers's tale for Miracle Day so we can figure out where it all went wrong!!
albeit I am still hanging out for the chance of a great finale

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:57

Pixel - human or humanoid but deffo not from earth...

Pixel · 12/08/2011 23:59

Has he fixed the watch then? I can't remember. I know the Doctor disabled it with his sonic screwdriver in one episode to stop Jack travelling around in time causing mayhem and I've got a vague memory that it might of got fixed but can't remember when or how.

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 00:00

i mean what was all that flame-throwing stuff in the first ep on the beach? JUST PRESS THE BUTTON ON YOUR ARM and fuck the fuck off to the tardis while you work out what is happening. at least call your pal the doctor... the one thing we know about jack and gwen is that actually it isn't 'just them' left.

i thought it was fixed, i must say, but i can't think why. if it's not fixed it's not particularly relevant, so why have him freak out about mekhi phifer trying to take it when they got to the states? why mention it at all if it isn't going to be relevant at some point. and if it is broke you would think that gwen would say 'if only your fucking watch was working... ' at some point.

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 00:04

so rtd only co-writing first and last? oooh.

although he doesn't tend to take credit for re-writes, so perhaps it's not a true reckoning.

Pixel · 13/08/2011 00:05

I think it still does stuff, cute little holograms, hitching lifts on passing spaceships that sort of thing, just not the time travelling maybe?

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 00:06

even at that... it's strange that they keep saying they've no alien tech left apart from the lenses when that thing is on his arm.

Pixel · 13/08/2011 00:06

And it's alien tech so he can't let anyone get hold of it. Did he steal it off a time agent along with the invisible spaceship that he had when he first met Rose and the Doctor?

pinkteddy · 13/08/2011 00:07

Pixel - Dr fixed it to use for himself, Martha and Jack to use when the Master stole the Tardis. Can't remember what happened to it after that though!

Pixel · 13/08/2011 00:07

oops, cross posts a bit there.

Pixel · 13/08/2011 00:09

Pinkteddy, yes that's right! Well remembered. It's coming back to me now.

I did wonder how come Torchwood still had so much of their secret equipment (clever contact lenses etc) when it all got destroyed before. (I'm still worried about that poor Pterodactyl.Grin)

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2011 00:09

well he is being a bit remiss with the lenses if that's the case... oh i dunno, nothing is watertight, nothing is funny... wonder if i would like it if i had never seen dr who or uk torchwood? i really doubt it. how is it going down in teh states?

Pixel · 13/08/2011 00:12

Agree. Basically it's all a bit rubbish. Sad

Pixel · 13/08/2011 00:16

I know I wouldn't be watching it now if it wasn't for a residue of loyalty and a tiny bit of hope that it will somehow come right in the end, so it would be different if we had never seen 'proper' Torchwood before.
It would just be another ridiculous american show that I watched the first episode of and then forgot about.
