just seen a trailer with the gorgeous Captain Jack and Gwen. No idea when it will be shown bit I'm so happyyyy. We really thought they'd killed it off with the last series.

Anyone know when it's coming??!!

weren't there scenes of him and his brother on some alien planet with different suns to earth? i'm not a massive whovian, but i am pretty sure. and he told billie and dave about how he was the face of bo back on his home planet, which wouldn't have been worth mentioning if it was earth?

Dumbledoresgirl · 12/08/2011 22:29

Eve Myles (Gwen) had a baby in November 2009, if that helps you to forgive her fat face Wink

Again, the face of Boe thingy is ambiguous.

teejwood · 12/08/2011 22:30

dumbledoresgirl i have to say i am not one of eve myles' greatest fans with the greatest respect to her, but i think gwen has looked great in some outfits this series
also i prefer someone "normal" to those sodding barbies. with esther it's like, seriously? heels that high? not so good for running when you know people are trying to find you and notkill you.... nah - gwen's dm-type jobs are what you need. but then it would be painfully obvious these lollipop heads really are so skinny

I also have to admit to a mild admiration for Eve Myles. I often look at the outfits she wears in Torchwood (previous series, as much as this one) and thought she looked good in what she wore. I don't think she is very pretty either, which is a sort of compliment in my book. She is natural and wholesome looking - far nicer.

The fact that she is fatter in this series I also find rather comforting. Nice to see a real woman, whose body reflects her life's experiences.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 12/08/2011 22:33

I don't think it was home plant, just 'home' - could be wrong though.

But that is basically my point. He is in the Dr Who long story-arc, both as Captain Jack and as the Face of Bo. All of that has just been completely ignored for this, there is no connection.

I don't think Gwen is fat, it is just that the others are soooo thin.

teejwood · 12/08/2011 22:34

yy dumbledoresgirl, aitch remembers correctly. he comes from the boeshane peninsula on an alien planet in the 51st century and was known as the face of boe because he was so vain...

Dumbledoresgirl · 12/08/2011 22:37

OK, if the consensus is that the Boeshane Peninsular is on an alien planet, I am happy to accept that Jack is alien. I just wasn't sure this was actually stated, and sometimes, things are assumed that don't turn out to be true.

Re Gwen, sorry, I didn't mean she was fat. Of course, she isn't. But she is fatter than she was pre baby.

teejwood · 12/08/2011 22:37

and ali i agree - it's because the other actresses are all so skinny that gwen seems larger. but eve myles seems to be saying she wants to stay in LA for work; it'll be interesting to see whether she too turns into a lollipop head to get the roles or whether she can trade on her difference...

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 22:38

gwen is unusually fat, for her. she never looked like that in UK torchwood. i do think it's weird that the actress was given the opportunity to star in a major global tv production and didn't play the game at all. maybe it's a feminist statement, but i doubt it. just seems like she might have missed the chance for a bigger career by not making the effort there.

no judgement call on my part. i just find it strange. casting directors will forever know her as 'the fat english one off torchwood' now. even if she's welsh.

teejwood · 12/08/2011 22:46

Ah! Jack has a wiki entry. Of course. Here's what it says re: Face of Boe

Barrowman states that when fans ask him if Jack is really the Face of Boe, he tells them he believes he is and states that he and Davies hold it to be true "in [their] little world"; the link is "unconfirmed" within the text of the show. As to how Jack becomes the Face, Barrowman feels the answer doesn't matter as it is intentionally mysterious. Barrowman likes the characters being connected because it means in spite of how the Doctor initially treats Jack, "Boe becomes his confidante and the one the Doctor returns to for advice and information" which he feels is a "wonderful twist of events".[127]
However, Davies doesn't like making whether Jack really is the Face of Boe explicit, stating "the moment it became very true or very false, the joke dies". He has refused the publication of spin-off novels and comic books that have tried to definitively link the two.[128]

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:05

oh that pisses me off... that's like when rtd says in the diaries that he thinks the claire bloom character in the last DT ep is the doctor's mum, but would never confirm it. annoying.

how many eps is this torchwood series? does anyone know?

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:10

Aitch y'see i don't mind that actually, it makes it a bit more fun. to an extent it gives you freedom to project whatever you think onto the character

i think the series is 10 eps, no? why, do you feel you have an interminable number of previews to get through? Wink

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:11

i really do. don't want to spoil anything for you but by the end of ep7 you might start to feel like we are FINALLY about to get somewhere.

there

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:23

Maryz have to say i'm amazed they haven't got weevils in la Wink

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:25

nope. you still won't have a clue what's going on at the end of ep 7, sorry to say... it's just that finding out seems briefly possible.

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:26

is it better and more torchwood-y than what we've had to date, though? that was the rumour

my dc's are much too young for torchwood so they have to stick with DW and SJA.
they are very excited about the second half of the DW season....

AitchTwoOh · 12/08/2011 23:33

it's just a bit witless, maryz, that''s what i think. too big, altogether. whereas who and torchwood uk do things in secret, without fuss, these guys are only secret because they are outlaws. and ffs how come esther can bounce signals off chinese satellites etc BUT JUST GOES TO VISIT HER SISTER?

more torchwoody, teej? hmm. a bit, i suppose. but there is a huge ick factor in ep 7 for me, cos of ratso.

I'm a bit depressed about this series, I don't even have Dr Who to look forwars to as that's a lot of over complicated bollocks atm, it looks good in the trailer but I've been fooled by that before.

Don't let me down Misfits

teejwood · 12/08/2011 23:38

why would capt jack go for someone who's been hit with a big ugly stick when the likes of ianto and capt john are much more his thing, though?

actually it's probably plot related so don't answer that question just yet!
