Hello Lula, I haven't yet decided whether series 2 was just a bit tighter than this one or whether our expectations are so much higher because of The Killing. There has been rather a lot of shouting, slapping and mutilation. But I am getting back into the black humour two weeks on.

Incidentally, I got my fix of Troels (Lars Mikkelsen) last week in a Danish film/DVD called Flame and Citron about the Danish resistance during WW2. He was in a 2 minute scene (his brother Mads had the main part).

Blackduck · 13/04/2011 07:45

I think it is very different, and more 'full on', The Killing was much more low key IYKWIM. But like you mum, I am geting back into it.....!

crunchbag · 13/04/2011 10:07

Haven't caught up with last Saturday's episodes yet. DH and I have been watching The Killing (first time for him) and it's even more chilling watching it all again.

muminlondon · 13/04/2011 19:22

Was quite interested to see a female prosecutor/judge attend the last murder victim scene (Pierre Clement was at the first one). Do you think we will see her again?

SarahLundsJumper · 14/04/2011 10:34

Hello! waves Grin
Havent managed to watch the first 2 episodes of this yet-well I did start but was eating and it put me off Blush
Will settle down later and watch back to back on iplayer.

Still keeping my killing name though !

SarahLundsredJumper · 14/04/2011 10:38

Just a little name change in anticipation of the next series-lovely red jumper !

crunchbag · 14/04/2011 11:32

:o

muminlondon · 14/04/2011 22:49

Hello SLrJ, my brown jumper is in the wash. This Spiral series is quite grimy, and I've been sleeping in the car... (watch the programme Grin)

Prunnhilda · 15/04/2011 09:32

SLrJ here it is Jumper
REALLY EASY to make yourself if so inclined Grin

SarahLundsredJumper · 15/04/2011 09:43

Hellomil and Prun
Thanks for jumper pic- lovely ! Sadly I am inclined !Grin Have just ordered some wool for original but am liking that red/textured one more .
Still havent watched Spiral cos I watched 2 Holby episodes instead(yes its tripe but I love it!)

SarahLundsredJumper · 15/04/2011 09:44

oh why did muminlondon not bold?

Prunnhilda · 15/04/2011 10:34

I think the red textured one just uses the same motif but done in plain and purl as opposed to two colours. [spod]
I'm quite keen on that one but not going to spend the summer knitting something in bulky wool!

crunchbag · 15/04/2011 13:43

Okay, I have caught up with all 4 episodes now. It's very grim and quite brutal isn't it Shock
Missing the humour and can't quite warm to the characters yet. For me 1 episode at the time is enough, I am not feeling the anticipation I had with the killing :)

SLrJ, if you don't wear the brown jumper anymore, please please send it to Laure!

muminlondon · 15/04/2011 20:55

Those jumpers are just gorgeous. I can see Laure in the spaghetti strap one.

aloiseb · 15/04/2011 22:08

Yes, agree with crunchbag, definitely send jumper to poor freezing Laure. I'm almost more disturbed by her top half, than lack of same in mutilated bodies. Confused (after all France isn't so much further south -they must all be flippin' freezing!)

Last episode was v alarming. At least they will be able to let the Foaming Mouth Guy out, cos he can't have done it having been locked up at the time.

Wonder if it was it him that Patricia saw? or just someone who looked similar? I thought the guy who picked up the girl with a headscarf on (for a BJ) looked v similar. But it was someone else who was dragging the other girl off gagged, wasn't it? Or maybe not?

I love (?) the way every suspect gets beaten up and has songs sung at them until they confess.....are they really like this in French police? - am quite worried to go there again. If I was Foaming Mouth Guy (FMG) I would be straight on to the European Court of Human Rights when they finally let me out.

Also loving the graffiti and seediness of Paris. Has a lot in common with Copenhagen there.

muminlondon · 16/04/2011 10:43

It's much more 'French' than The Killing was 'Danish' IYSWIM. Much more local colour (although I will be afraid of tripping over mutilated bodies next time I step off the Eurostar).

aloiseb · 16/04/2011 12:22

I wish you could see me watching this on sky+ - DH who won't watch it with me, in corner writing another railway book something on the PC,

I stop the tape and say "Train!" whereupon he turns around and deigns to identify it. Have to keep him interested in my life.....Blush

FYI Just when that poor girl was about to be picked up there was a double decker RER going over the bridge. (He says it's somewhere in north Paris if anyone wants to avoid the area!)

interview all passengers in case they saw anything, someone did but is brutally murdered on the way to the police station (this is what would happen in Lewis)

interview all passengers then forget to read the interviews for 6 episodes (this would be the Lund /Meyer method)

Forget the whole train thing and beat up a few more suspects

muminlondon · 16/04/2011 13:52

Grin Confused

muminlondon · 17/04/2011 00:20

Well, I think episodes 5 and 6 were pretty good. Laure was much more in control, if manipulative. Rouban was a bit out of character but maybe that's why he bungled it.

teej · 17/04/2011 10:25

nice to see so many of us still mooching around solving continental Europe's crimes for them Wink

Grin re sending Lund's jumper to Laure. DP turned round to me last night and said "hang on - has she actually changed her top?" oh yes, i said, and then again when she went for her dinner date Shock.

yes she could do with the jumper - but just to add to her wardrobe given that she doesn't seem to be sleeping in the car any more. in fact, interesting that she was able to go back to her flat after that shag, wasn't it?! exorcising a few demons perhaps?

teej · 17/04/2011 10:29

also nice to see she was using her living room window as her incident board -bet she just wants to join our superior crime-busting team Wink

so.... anyone else wonder how the JB hanky ended up at the crime scene? the killer set up the flatmate butcher or there just happened to be one of his hankies near the crime scene? i did wonder if the bonkers guy was actually the rapist and the son was going round trying to set him up to get justice for his mum

Blackduck · 17/04/2011 10:55

How about two killers? FMG did first two, and third was a copycat? Dp has his money on the husband at the moment...

teej · 17/04/2011 12:01

blackduck mmm - i did wonder if ronaldo's mum had carried out the third killing to try and clear her son, and then had to kill herself as she couldn't live with the guilt? but that would be a tad ott. if it was a copycat it would have to be someone who knew every detail of the case - including the scalpel behind the ear - and there were very few people who knew the full story...

sfxmum · 17/04/2011 12:19

I have been following only this series but from the much loved The Killing what seems more glaring ans almost shocking is the amount of sexism

otherwise the roughness of the plot and stop/ start slow discoveries are engaging

muminlondon · 17/04/2011 14:18

sfxmum yes, sexism, racism, almost cartoonishly so. I find it hard to watch the prostitutes being abused and turning into abusers themselves, but no doubt it does go on. Some interesting themes emerging though, about mother-son and father-daughter relationships (although those seem to be particularly perverted!). I liked the way Rouban's lover loyally defended her son's actions.

Apparently '36 Quai des Orfevres' has the status of Scotland Yard (though it's quite possibly in a different building now). So shagging in that office was a bit of an ego boost in more ways than one!
