OP posts:
sfxmum · 17/04/2011 15:09

all the sexual innuendo and the camera focusing on the lawyer woman's arse all so lecherous
also the detective capitaine seems to needy

sounds like I don't like it, I do but it feels uncomfortable

muminlondon · 17/04/2011 20:21

I know what you mean. When I saw the last series I was a bit shocked to see bullying and racism depicted so cynically (even inviting us to approve). But I wondered if British TV had become a bit too worthy to the point of being unrealistic - or could only portray that sort of behaviour in a comic, ironic way as in Life on Mars. So I thought it was provocative but quite different. This series has a lot more violence towards women and the incest storyline as comic relief is so weird. It does feel a bit like watching the Sweeney in Paris with a woman in charge (and mopeds). But , it's still compelling. I did enjoy that whole bullet swapping scene.

aloiseb · 19/04/2011 23:23

I too loved the bullet swap - although when Laure was doing her jaunty walk back to the car afterwards, I was just waiting for the camera to pan out to a shot of Berthold in the window above watching them....which didn't happen. Not sure whether to thank goodness, or not!
..... however, as the whole Fr criminal investigation system rationale seems to be to screw everybody over before they do it to you, and we are supposed to be rooting for Laure....Thank goodness.Smile

If that Mexican gets the dark haired lady he was following this will be terribly confusing, as surely he couldn't have done Tatiana? He was in prison being toughed up at the time.

Hate Judge Roban's brother - what a git.

Prunnhilda · 20/04/2011 11:57

I really struggle with the storyline about the woman who's screwing her dad. Is everyone in France laughing uproariously and slapping their thighs at it? It's grim and sad. Pierre and the redhead seem to be going 'Eeeewww' but no more than that. 'I need to find out more about her' my arse, it seems voyeuristic to me.
[catsbum mouth]

sfxmum · 20/04/2011 12:28

about that woman I think the story is that she just met her dad having spent her life without him, but I might have misunderstood

Prunnhilda · 20/04/2011 12:31

Yes, that's right - she's only known him a short while.

I think I am squeamish about it because I had a French boyfriend for a while and he used to make jokes about having 4 daughters - one for the cooking, one for the cleaning, one for the laundry, and one for the bedroom. I DUMPED HIM OF COURSE Shock

sfxmum · 20/04/2011 12:37

eweeuhh that is a joke too far
i guess the thing of newly acquainted family engaging in inappropriate relationships seems to be talked about a lot in the media, not sure how actually relates to real life, but on this case I think quite a lot of disapproval was noted
somehow given what is going on it seems almost the least shocking thing going on, the prostitute story line is horribly dehumanizing which I guess is closer to reality

muminlondon I see what you mean, the US shows always seem so 'cleaned up' and in a way also the British ones but it seems from a cultural point of view the direction choices seem quite Southern European (speaking as one)
some of the stuff allowed on their telly is downright offensive and objectifying

Prunnhilda · 20/04/2011 12:43

Is it talked about a lot in the media?

TooTiredToArgue · 20/04/2011 16:23

hello all

back from trip to mum's and just caught up on iplayer. Have to say, am stunned by goriness/brutality/seediness, but also find it riveting.

So glad Laure finally ditched her smelly spaghetti strap top for something with sleeves! But did make me chuckle when she took off her pulling leather jacket to reveal slinky number, bare back and tattoo. Talk about making your intentions clear! Smile

Petit Gilou is such a good character. Loved his comment to Tintin on hearing about his wife's pregnancy.

Judge Roban has lost the plot, but again, he's such a good character. Always looks to me like he's had a blow dry at the salon. Maybe his efficient secretary Marion does that too?

Surely it's only a matter of time before Pierre and Josephine get it on. And love old buggy eyes. Imagine waking up to that face on the pillow next to yours in the morning?

DH reckons Ronalda aka Mr Foamy mouth is guilty, and it's the classic old double bluff. Someone else (mother?) did the other one while he was inside to take the heat off him. Oh God, and the image of the mother putting the plastic bag over her head was horrific. Shock

No other words of, but looking forward to next installments.

P.S. Have any other Killing fans noticed that there is a Nana working in the office. Not Nanna Birk Larsson, obviously! Grin

aloiseb · 20/04/2011 19:37

I think I must have dozed off in some key scenes....me for the repeat tonight What plastic bag???? What pregnancy?
Cant work out the redhaired Josephine - is she a lawyer ex crokked lawyer working for dicey character (Szabo) and did this happen in the last series?

muminlondon · 20/04/2011 19:52

sfxmum I must admit that this series does have a more voyeuristic feel about it. Previous series just felt very 'French' in terms of the different legal system, interiors, Paris scenes, etc. So I checked on Wikipedia to see if the writers or directors were men or women. It looks like there was an even split on the writing side but all the directors have been men. So that could explain the dodgy camera angles at the same time as the brisk pace of the dialogue and good characterisation. Series 3 directors are Manuel Boursinhac (3x01 to 3x06) et Jean-Marc Brondolo (3x07 to 3x12) - they sound like they have more southern roots, don't they? Spanish/Corsican/Italian ?

TooTiredToArgue · 20/04/2011 20:05

Aloiseb yes, Josephine worked for Szabo in last series (tempted by the money) and got involved with some very shady goings on/gangster types. She also had a fling with Szabo, which ended acrimoniously, but can't remember exactly why.

Be prepared for the plastic bag thing. Awful.

aloiseb · 20/04/2011 21:31

Oh - thanks tootired if it's that bad maybe I won't bother

  • having that murder from "Spooks" fixed rather too firmly in my head as it is.

Whose mother was it anyway? I'm guessing Roban's? the scene I saw was just Roban coming in to see her after she'd died, no sign of any hastily removed plastic bag - had hospital covered up? Or had a guilty party removed it? I know Roban had that pillow moment a couple of episodes ago..........

BTW I have just found out from a learned friend what is French word for f* (Ive been trying to make it out for weeks Blush) - am now going to listen hard to find out if it really is used as verb, adverb, adjective and noun as well as expletive, as it is in English.

TooTiredToArgue · 20/04/2011 22:06

AloiseB, not Roban's mother, no. It's a bit more complicated than that.

I think I can happily tell you (as it's already been on, so can't be accused of being a spoiler queen!)

Or would you rather watch and get the whole picture?

mammamoomin · 21/04/2011 21:16

Wolfgirl did you get my email?????

aloiseb · 22/04/2011 00:12

No, it's ok, I watched it now (luckily on Sky+ with full fastwind facility)

I realised not Roban's mother as soon as I had shut down the computer. Blush

(Sometimes I realise where my keys are, 2 seconds after I have shut the front door, as well - is there a name for this disorder do you think?)

Looking forward to next episodes - I may just have worked out what everybody is up to, before the series finishes!

TooTiredToArgue · 22/04/2011 09:00

No worries, AloiseB. Glad you got there in the end. If it makes you feel any better, I have a compulsive 'check the door is locked' disorder. Once or twice is never enough, which can take for lengthy comings and goings Blush

TooTiredToArgue · 24/04/2011 08:40

Blimey! Did anyone else watch last night? Or was it just me, the Spirals saddo? [busad]

Prunnhilda · 24/04/2011 08:48

No, not just you - I watched!
Felt very sorry for Laure.
It was pretty gripping last night (and quite fruity!).

TooTiredToArgue · 24/04/2011 09:08

Indeed it was - gripping and fruity in equal measure. Took a while to work out who it was in the last clinch (before faces revealed) Blush. I agree, poor Laure.

muminlondon · 24/04/2011 09:53

It's really moving along now. I felt sorry for Laure, torn between two men. And I'm a bit worried about Pierre Clement being too soft with that boy.

sfxmum · 24/04/2011 10:13

I will have to watch again as was having a very involved convo at same time
but it did move along some, didn't it
the lawyer seems to be in danger, too close to boy will likely make him vulnerable
Laure poor girl but I guess as she falls apart she will get mad and reckless and effective?
also the young student (Roban's) what a mess but expect mum and judge will end up helping him
can't wait to watch again I am sure I missed lots of details

pawsnclaws · 24/04/2011 10:13

I missed the last bit of last week's and the first half of this week's, but think I've worked it out - pretty much. But who was killed with a plastic bag? Must have missed that. Hated the bit with the Czech girl being handed back to the pimps - you could just see that was about to happen, and yet there didn't seem to be any consequences for the vice chap that was meant to be in charge of her.

And does Laure ever shower or change her clothes? She seems to go from sleeping in her car/shagging old flames/arguing with everyone without a break. I know she broke out the slinky number for her dinner date but it seems that was just so she could seduce the old flame and switch the bullets Grin.

muminlondon · 24/04/2011 11:15

I think she really does feel something for Bremont but neither can trust each other. He is contemptuous of her stealing his cases yet if he knew she was protecting Gilou, would he be even more jealous, see it as misplaced loyalty or think it was just a cover-up for incompetence? it would make things even worse and she knows it. Now Gilou is jealous and/or worried that she will betray him. Great storyline but hope Laure doesn't go back to sleeping in the car...

Nounours was nowhere to be seen this week, after breaking his teddy bear silence on the moped chase.

TooTiredToArgue · 24/04/2011 13:40

Agreed, Muminlondon. Think she does really feel something for Bremont, but knows it can never go anywhere now. She'd never shop Gilou (too loyal to her team), so knows she'll end up carrying the can. Is Gilou jealous, or just incredulous/worried? Not sure.

Pierre is being very naive about Dylan - will all end in tears, mark my words.

Oh, and couldn't help but laugh about Roban's pupil's predicament. He had it coming!
