What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

Good point LilyBolero, I'd forgotten that, Ooh Interesting!

LilyBolero · 30/04/2011 19:43

My theories from tonight;
The Silence said that Amy had i) been there for many days, and ii) Amelia Pond had 'brought the Silence'.

So I think they implanted a baby in her - either a baby Silence, or a hybrid human/Silence. The astronaut suit I suspect they are using as a life support for the child, who was the little girl, and perhaps they have used some sort of timelord technology to create the body, hence enabling regeneration? But the loss of the suit/life support I think is the reason she was dying.

The spaceship from the Lodger, and seen again here - could it be a future Doctor's Tardis that the Silence have stolen? It said they don't build technology, so perhaps it is the Dr who was killed in Ep1 's Tardis, stolen from him, and that's why the Tardis couldn't land in The Lodger.

mumatron · 30/04/2011 19:48

i'm still thinking it's amy's baby somehow, just because of the pregnancy scanner thing at the end.

also, if the Dr is Rivers past surely she would know about the baby?

god knows what i'm on about now! i'm confusing myself.

LilyBolero · 30/04/2011 20:00

The 'River would know' is a bit of a paradox - she's been very good about not giving 'spoilers', I think that's how they're getting around that.

I think it is Amy's baby, but that it is not a normal pregnancy, and I think the Silence have put it there - perhpas that's why the scanner was flicking pos/neg - editing itself out of the scanner maybe?

And something I thought (long shot) - maybe the Silence are ghosts of the Timelords, trying to find a way back to a living body? Hence the girl regenerating?

mumatron · 30/04/2011 20:55

I'm obviously trying be too logical about it Grin

I've been watching long enough to know that most things become sort of clear in the end i hope

HarrietJones · 30/04/2011 21:21

I didn't say Amy wasn't pregnant, just that the baby in the picture /girl aren't hers.

seeksnewnamewithgsoh · 30/04/2011 21:31

I'm lurking here because as much as I love DW, my brain won't function half enough to even try and speculate about what's going on.

But I keep having to do a double take as the Silence is so similar to my surname and it's making my head spin Grin

FWIW I must have got confused at some point because I thought the scanner thing was doing a DNA comparison between the suit and Amy Confused I think it's Amy's daughter, but not River Song.

JackieNo · 30/04/2011 21:37

So could the regenerating child be the Master? Or another timelord, who ends up looking like the Doctor, and is the one that gets shot by the astronaut (who might be the 'real' doctor) [brain explodes]. Just throwing thoughts out there, not really joined up ones.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 30/04/2011 22:12

I got so confused during that!
I felt quite uncomfortable watching - not scared exactly, but very aware that I could be.........

and I certainly didn't like the Silence hanging on the ceiling!

CatPower · 30/04/2011 22:15

Is the girl River Song?
Why do I think River Song is also a timelord?
Are the Silent really vanquished? Surely not, given the hype they've received.
Why is my palm flashing?

mumatron · 30/04/2011 22:38

i dont think River Song is also a timelord, I think she was just his assistant.

jackie my ds has that same idea. the future doc is not really the doc. but in ep1 canton delaware say's that it most definately the doctor and he most definately is dead.

bronze · 30/04/2011 22:38

Don't Cat I have to sleep tonight

MilkNoSugarPlease · 30/04/2011 22:57

I'm.so.bloody.confused....

LilyBolero · 30/04/2011 23:15

I'm fairly certain the future doctor is the real doctor.

How about this - the Silence are creating a life-form, using energy from the Tardis which they have stolen from the future Doctor. This makes the girl half-timelord, (as Donna was), so she has regenerative powers.

There is an episode later in the series, with a character Idris, who is rumoured to be the Tardis personified. (in The Doctor's Wife), so this could link in. And Amy's baby is either the girl, or another human/Silence hybrid.

CatPower · 30/04/2011 23:29

But remember last week, Amy was all belly-clutchy and puking... so was River. So is River timey-wimey-Silence pregnant too?

ComeAlongPond · 30/04/2011 23:31

Just watched it on iPlayer. Confused.

That box thing certainly reminded me of the pandorica though - 'the perfect prison'.

I think the little girl has to be a little bit Timelordy, because how else would she regenerate? Surely if you can regenerate from "absorbing" TARDIS-y power, at least one of the humans who've been flitting around space would have managed to as well?

Could be River... after all, she's going backwards as the dr goes forwards. Reminds me a bit of The Timetraveller's Wife... And didn't she say, when she went back to prison at the end, that she'd escaped lots of times before? Obviously she was referring to prison, we've seen her escape several times, but could she also mean from other places, like the suit?

I've been convinced from the first or second time we saw River that she killed the doctor and that's why she's in prison, all those references to killing a great man and a worse day coming for her, etc etc.

Is the doctor really, truly, forever-and-ever dead though? Surely they'll find a way to save him somehow, because otherwise that's the end of Doctor Who, isn't it? Can't really carry on with a dead doctor...

Oh, and I don't believe the Silence is done for. Not after all the build up from last series etc. Would be silly to kill them off in the first episode. Almost as silly as killing off the Doctor... Besides, the Doctor has another 200 years to live before he summons everyone to his death, he must do something in that time, and there was a Silence there plus the spaceman so unless they're going to explain NOTHING they have to come back.

Wow, that's long and makes no sense. Hurrah. Maybe we'll all have an epiphany tomorrow and all will become clear.

seeksnewnamewithgsoh · 30/04/2011 23:34

Ooh, just a thought...

Is River human? Or alien in 'human' form?

If she and the Doctor are married in the future, then could the girl be their baby, who has travelled/been planted back in time?

Something with the Doctor/River timeline is not sitting well with me. When he came out of the toilet last week, he couldn't remember a lot of their details, and didn't know that he could trust her... when clearly he trusted her without a shadow of a doubt in the library, and has met her as MS many times already. Is he an even younger doctor than he is letting on? I'm soooo confuuuuuuuused!!!

seeksnewnamewithgsoh · 30/04/2011 23:39

Just read that back and it doesn't even make sense to me and I know what I'm thinking almost

If River could be the sort of alien that could breed with a timelord, then potentially it could be their baby.

Pond, I've been thinking about The Time Traveller's Wife too - I could get my head round that, but it's not helping me this time. I think it's because we're potentially not seeing all of their meetings, and possibly not even in chronological order.

ComeAlongPond · 30/04/2011 23:48

To be honest, I try not to think about The Time Traveller's Wife. To be entirely honest, I thought the bloke was a bit of a creepy pervert and the wife was pathetic and shouldn't have spent her whole life hanging around for said creepy pervert who kept buggering off to bonk her fifteen-year-old self.

Agree about not seeing all of their meetings. And I'm always a bit confused about how they 'sync diaries' as Amy said when they're so keen to avoid 'spoilers'. "Oh, have we been invaded by those giant fleas yet?" "Yes..." "How about shagging in the alcoves at Kate and Wills' wedding, have we done that?" "Oh they get married? How delightful..." It makes no sense to me.

seeksnewnamewithgsoh · 30/04/2011 23:53
Grin

I would have loved to have seen a royal wedding spesh... we saw Lancaster bomber and Tornadoes, but not the Tardis chasing off a fleet of space baddies Grin

And yes, I try to not think about that bit too...

MilkNoSugarPlease · 01/05/2011 00:07

Do we know how much longer River will be in it? I absolutely adore her!!

PersonalClown · 01/05/2011 00:08

Just for you Who geeks!!

Hahahahaha

PersonalClown · 01/05/2011 00:08

Apols for the size.. showing DP from across the room.

Pixel · 01/05/2011 03:42

Excellent! I was saying to dd when we were watching the wedding, I bet the Doctor is there somewhere. Grin

LadyCornyOfSilk · 01/05/2011 04:27

why didn't they go back and look for the little girl? There is no way they'd just have left her like that.
what happened in the 3 months between this and the last episode?
