What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

It's also possible the regenerating thing is just a result of the TARDIS's pre-natal influence?

bronze · 13/06/2011 10:09

The time vortex theory
It is possible but I love thinking of weird but possible in Wholand (no hang on thats a different doctor) things

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 13/06/2011 12:56

What if the current "real" doctor dies (as he has not many regenerations left but they will want to be able to continue DW so need to find a way to extend that!), but the flesh doctor could recreate itself as per the clues just before it died, and gets made "real" by the Tardis like the Jimmy guy, and becomes the new "real" Doctor but with a full quota of unused regenerations (assuming the number of regenerations used somehow isn't copied across with everything else)?

Or has someone already suggested that?

MurielTheActor · 13/06/2011 13:25

That's a good theory MNIIM - in DrWholand you can pretty much come up with an explanation for absolutely anything...

Watched it for 2nd time with dp (who hadn't seen it yet). I think it demands to be watched at least twice.

Loving the Lesbian Lizard Victorian Private Detective (and her sword). Give her her own series!

Trills · 13/06/2011 13:27

Love that theory Inigo!

ScatterChasse · 13/06/2011 15:52

I have internet back Grin Thanks, will look at that site.

You know at the end, when he asked how he looked, and she said wonderful, and then "you'd better be" or something along those lines, do we take it that he was off to meet her for the first time?

I know all the timey-wimey stuff makes this confusing, but how old roughly are Amy and Rory actually meant to be? Mid-twenties? So it could just be he was laughing at the fact he gets a MIL twenty years younger than his girlfriend and 900 years younger than him.

Btw, speaking of new series, do you think think they'll do another spin-off for CBBC now Elisabeth Sladen's died? I loved the Sarah-Jane Adventures, and thought they were a really good introduction to Doctor Who.

housemum · 14/06/2011 09:21

Scatter, I was wondering about that - DD2 has only just got into it, so we are a bit adrift with which series we've seen - how old is Luke? If he's 18 now (or the series comes back with him then) perhaps they could continue the storyline with him at Uni with a laptop Mr Smith, leaving Sarah Jane existing in the background? It was really sad when she died, as she was one of the Doctors' assistants that really stuck in my mind as a child (her and Lalla Ward are the only 2 that seemed significant).

Reading Harry Potter with DD2 last night - Dumbledore calls Hagrid a "good man". Now, I'd put someone in a storm cage for killing Hagrid...

confuddledDOTcom · 14/06/2011 11:10

The limited regeneration thing may not be held to. I'm trying to remember the back story to it but being mobile it's not easy to check up on it, what I read makes it possible it won't be held to.

housemum · 14/06/2011 12:34

I think it was a Guardian interview with Stephen Moffat linked to earlier up the thread - something of the lines of 12/13 regenerations being a law like a speed limit rather than a law like gravity - ie you cannot change the laws of gravity but you could break the speed limit.

HarrietJones · 14/06/2011 12:36

I thought the limit was set by timelords but now they've gone...

housemum · 14/06/2011 12:46

There's a whole load of geeky regeneration "facts" on Wikipedia

teej · 16/06/2011 16:03

Oh haven?t been on this thread for ages and have loved catching up. Was slightly disappointed I had guessed River/Melody but loved the last episode overall. A few things have occurred to me as I mull all this in the run up to the second half of the season. First up, I am convinced that ?a? ganger doctor could be the one killed in TIA. The doctor said in rebel flesh that they had been knocked out for an hour. Surely this was enough time for the doctor himself to be gangered not once but twice? So that?s why he needed to be in the tardis before the obvious ganger doc zapped Jennifer with the sonic ? otherwise both of them would have been mush. Secondly, if the ganger takes on all physical similarities (eg clot in brain) then why not two hearts and the ability to regenerate (unless you are a pile of goo, naturally, might be a bit tricky to come back from that one)? So it would be a ?real? doctor to all intents and purposes who would look like they were regenerating when attacked. Third, not all gangers melted into goo when they died ? they specifically said the old gangers were melted (by the humans) when they were no longer useful. Also, ganger Buzzer was zapped and did not disintegrate ? he had a corpse. Moffat made a big play out of the gangers being ?real? and has also made a big play that the ?real? doctor died ? but that does not mean it was not a ganger doctor iykwim. What do you think?

New trailers online!

Dylthan · 05/08/2011 20:52

I saw an advert for it on the telly Harriet the advert made it look like river and the eye patch lady are one and the same Shock .

I can't wait for it to start up again :o

HarrietJones · 05/08/2011 21:35

But that would make another paradox. Baby River/adult River

HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 09:03

Anyone watching the series catch up on Fridays? Was pirates/doctors wife last night.

teejwood · 13/08/2011 09:49

harriet yes - was so glad to see the Doctor's Wife again last night - loved it.
also reminded me of how much the rory resuscitation scene in the pirates episode jarred with me first time around.

apparently prequel to let's kill hitler will be available from 15/8/11

Grin
HarrietJones · 13/08/2011 12:07

Idris did something to Amy ( squeezed her cheek?) and there was something about it that made me think of her knowing it was ganger

QBEE · 14/08/2011 20:36

Is eyepatch lady supposed to be this River grown up or regenerated? If the eyepatch is a link between regenerations like the corsair's tattoo then surely it would be ever present?

Possibly the eyepatch is an war/training piece of gadgetry or the equivalent of army stripes? After all they kidnapped her in order to use her as a weapon. Maybe she continued living/working with her kidnappers in an undercover capacity?

Also did the eyepatch woman ever touch the REAL melody? She had the ganger baby when Rory confronted her, did she not?

Super excited now!

ScatterChasse · 15/08/2011 17:17

What date's it back on do we know?

Btw, if River was growing up in the stormcage, surely she couldn't have been wandering around homeless and dying in New York? The Doctor said she was safe, surely that doesn't count?!

prettybird · 18/08/2011 10:21

Ds shouted through this morning that they had finally put a date on the trailer: August 27th :)

teejwood · 18/08/2011 13:18

has everyone seen the prequel to the next ep here? Sad

re: river, we could be dealing with twins/gangers/alternative timelines/universes - not sure which way i'm jumping yet tbh...

ScatterChasse · 18/08/2011 13:46

I've just seen the trailer...there's a pterodactyl!

I must say, I've missed the fun/less serious stand-alone episodes this series.

GlaikitFizzog · 18/08/2011 20:43

Argh!!! SO EXCITED!! Prequel is ver Sad

If there is a new thread started can someone post the link on this one please?
