What do you think of this? And when does it start? Could you stand the wait over the summer, or is it a godsend?

This is why I love this series of Dr Who.

When I watched this last episode I concentrated harder than I have ever done on a TV programme in my life, looking out for clues, trying to make sense of it, and still thoroughly enjoyed myself.

And here is a thread of over 900 posts of grown women all speculating about what is going to happen next, what it all means etc.

I googled "Dr Who episode 7" and found other threads like this, with people saying "But what if Amy was . . ."

Nothing I have ever watched before has got me speculating with other people about what it means and what's going to happen (NB I never watched Lost or Twin Peaks). TV for the internet generation I suppose.

DS1 asked me how I knew that River was Amy's child and I said "Oh, a Mumsnet thread ... " He is now secretly impressed with Mumsnet.

Deanna1977 · 08/06/2011 09:42

Aitch - "Amy au Lait" - that made me giggle. Brilliant!

NanAstley · 08/06/2011 12:07

I have been lurking on this thread (and other Doctor Who threads on other forums) but had to break cover to agree with BaloonSlayer. This is the first time I have been so caught up in a TV serial that I actively seek out people on the internet to speculate on what will happen next. It is nice to feel so involved with the characters...it raises Doctor Who to another level. Smile

Also, I impressed dh by knowing the River Song = Melody Pond connection. He too is very taken with Mumsnet now. If he wants to know something (anything!), he now asks me to ask Mumsnet Grin

Rory was plastic for ages, and he seemed to really identify with Jennifer, before she turned all scary. So I don't think it would bother him that much that the Amy he was sleeping with was a ganger.

Tsil · 08/06/2011 17:30

Does anyone else think River kills Rory. The last episode seem to point more to Rory as the good man than the Doctor, plus when he went to get River at the prison she didn't know him at first and then when he said who he was she got a bit weird.

Maybe just me!

cornsilks · 08/06/2011 18:49

I thought it was Rory but then thought that would be too obvious Confused

BertieBotts · 08/06/2011 19:19

I'm torn, I think it could well be Rory, rather than the doctor. But it still doesn't add up enough. Why would she be in stormcage for that?

SoupDragon · 08/06/2011 19:23

She could have acted weird because she realised he was her father. Which would mean she had not met him before...

CaveMum · 08/06/2011 19:28

Soup Dragon I was just thinking the same thing. River knew Amy was her mother but if she had never met Rory (through him being dead or being separated from them both at a young age) she might have presumed he was just a boyfriend of Amy's until he said "They've taken our baby"

AitchTwoOh · 08/06/2011 19:29

or she was feeling REALLY BAD because she knew she had killed him already.

AitchTwoOh · 08/06/2011 19:30

i cannot BEAR this over the summer. this hiatus thing is the Moff's most spendid evil ruse yet...

ItsyBitsyTeenyWeenyLilBabba · 08/06/2011 19:32

I believe that Rory must die saving baby Melody. Just off the top of my head.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 08/06/2011 19:33

Rory dies in the next part of the series, so it could easily be that River doesn't know him.

BertieBotts · 08/06/2011 19:42

Hey, some of us are trying to avoid spoilers.

PinotGrigiosKittens · 08/06/2011 19:48

Oh sorry Bertie it was a repeat of what I read upthread.

BertieBotts · 09/06/2011 00:06

Oh, was it just a theory then? I'm going to pretend it was even if it wasn't. Nobody tell me! Wink

Sorry, I didn't realise something similar had already been mentioned upthread.

HarrietJones · 09/06/2011 07:06

I think it was a theory based on an arthur darvill interview. Hes in aplay or something which people took to mean he had left Dr Who

housemum · 09/06/2011 11:12

I have no idea what's going on but just keeping this in my active threads...
DD1 and I are going through the whole of the modern Doctor Who box sets, should keep us going until September :)

BatsInTheSnowglobe · 09/06/2011 20:27

I've been off work sick this week and have actually managed to watch all of Tennants episodes. I'd forgotten just how lovely he was as the Doctor Think I over loaded though, I live under a flight path and the planes have started to sound like the tardis!
I still can't decide whether its Rory or the Doctor that River kills. Rory makes more sense. If it was the Doctor then they'd have to figure out how to bring him back or thats the end of Dr Who and that can't happen! If it was Rory that would make sense as to why River acted strangely when she met him, maybe that was the only meeting they ever have (other than her killing him!) But then would killing Rory really land her in prison?!
Probably find she did something completely unrelated that landed her in prison!!

confuddledDOTcom · 11/06/2011 13:00

I think it's got to be between saying she's pregnant and having no idea about it.

PotPourri · 11/06/2011 21:06

Great programme, great thread. I think good man must be Rory, they are building him up so much as a hero and a good man.

I also think Lorna is significant. Maybe River or River and the Doctor's child or something like that??

Not sure about who could have slept in the cot - more Doctor/River children.

Other thing that came to me was maybe there is a weird paradox - Amy is River and the Doctor's daughter, and River is Amy's daughter. I realise it's far fetched, but hey, isn't it all...? Can't wait to see it come to conclusion.

I am loving the River Song romance. Have thought about it quite alot ever since the very first meeting in the library. Alex Kingston is just amazing

LilyBolero · 12/06/2011 17:36

PRivate Eye article has hiatus being purely because of money/time.

I think River could well kill Rory. Though the whole 'Rory being killed' has taken on a life of its own - I think it won't be so simple.

The Doctor says Amy was gangered 'just before America'.

seeksnewnamewithgsoh · 12/06/2011 22:29

Been lurking for a very long time, but I've just thought...

If ganger Amy had that special affinity with ganger Doctor, could Rory having that special affinity with Jennifer be because he's a ganger too? Or is that just too much yoghurt in the tardis?

And when River and Amy were feeling sick around the Silence/astronaut, could that be because of some weird crossing-your-own-timeline-ness?

bronze · 13/06/2011 09:07

PotP I wondered that too. It would explain how melody (assuming that small regenerating girl is melody/river) is able to regenerate, her Grandfather would have been a timelord Grin
