The Protect and Serve guy knew which case it was going to be already. He's a bit too cocky (and has a changing accent!) as though he knows it will all be covered up again.

The links with Sarah's past have to start being uncovered to explain why she was moved to Boyd's unit - and notice, the autistic guy at the mortuary already mentioned Eve's Body Farm to set it up for the follow on series...

Bearing my running behind in mind:

Was he tortured by the police/counter terrorism/some sort of police agency for information about his girlfriends islamic family/something to do with that - hence the cover up, Sarah asking gingerman if he knows.

I did wonder why he said that Dysgu about Eve's body farm, seemed a wierd thing to say!

So, the coppers covered something up. why?

Although perhaps the terrorist link is too obvious - and designed to show us that yes, we look at the evidence and jump to the terrorist conclusion.

The man with Sarah is creepy. Boyd seems to have got it into his mind that the torture was carried out by police.

And this guy looks like he could be an ex-cop. Although whoever he is, I guess we will know more about Karl's death when we find out his identity.
