Because of what happened to Grace. She didn't want Grace to meet Murray as it was too risky but Boyd was all for it, then she got hurt.

Surely Boyd has done stuff in the past that was reckless. I wonder whether she has been put there to check up on him with a view to her taking over the team.
Boyd has had lots of run ins with the people in charge in the past so maybe they have had enough - would lead to the end of the series - but I don't like that way...

I think her point is she was put in that situation in the first place - although I agree with your point.

She has a history though doesn't she? Had a funny moment when they entered a building in the first episode, couple of flashbacks to an incident, swig from a vodka bottle last week. She didn't go into the room where Duckface's body was this week but not sure if I'm reading too much into that one.

Either:

The problems that she had in counter terrorism are all made up (if she even came from counter terrorism at all), and used as an excuse to get her into the cold case team. She has been placed there by someone higher up, in order to get information on Boyd, get proof that he is being reckless and endangering team members. There must be police who have suspected that this is the case for years, however they have struggled to prove it, as most of the team seem to be very loyal to Boyd. Sarah could be doing someone a favour, or hoping to progress through the ranks by grassing on him.

OR:

The problems that she is having are true, and she did come from counter terrorism. She reported Boyd to a superior that she knew as she was worried about the way he was acting, and concerned about people like Grace. She isn't spying, she is just actually doing what she thinks is right.
