Banker goes missing 3 years ago, a few weeks after losing his youngest daughter to cancer and quitting his very lucrative job.
Cold case team pick it up after his car is discovered in a ditch and there is blood on the drivers seat.
Bankers wife is now dying of cancer, they have 2 other children.
They don't know if he is dead or just did a runner.
There were a creepy looking couple that dressed like they were going to a fancy dress party for the dead that seemed to be following the family around before the banker disappeared. No real explanation of this, other than it seems as if the banker gave then £100k. Their bodies are found in an old paper mill.
Just after the bodies are found, we see their bungalow being torched by a man in a balaclava. Does a copper in for good measure. Spencer suspects this is the banker but he gets away.
There is a crazy conspiracy theorist woman who lost her son to cancer but keeps him in the freezer, maybe in case she gets peckish.
Alongside ll this, there is a new officer on the squad, she is all traumatised from something or other and has been dumped on Boyd so he can drool all over her, while simultaneously snapping at her. Spencer resents her because it means Boyd spends less time shagging him.
At the start of the episode we see a flashback from a few decades ago - the old couple are there with a nurse, in a hospital. A child dies and the man blames the nurse. She looks a bit odd, and she was interested when the news report played about the car being discovered. But they didn't go into that very much.
A very odd episode.
