Anyone else going to watch this?

OP posts:

As far as I'm aware, there aren't any (state) primary schools in Glasgow that don't have uniforms (at least dress "codes"/colours). The kids at Jordanhill Primary (which is where I beleive at least some of the school scenes were filmed) must have been allowed to have non-uniform days on the days they were filming.

It's quite funny watching it and seeing the continuity "errors": going the wrong way over the bridge to get to his house... the SNP posters that were up in the windows of houses at the end of the street (ie filmed in the run up to the election) and the "following day" the posters have disappeared.

I enjoyed it more this week although I'm not sure what is supposed to be going on with Tanya, his eldest. She might as well not be in it as he just seems to give her hassle and didn't even greet his grandson in the manner you'd expect.

I'm hoping that the three children turn out to be his but I think it will probably be that they are all Stuarts, he'll go for custody and the payout from the police. Oh, and that was the other thing - the email that said he had no legal right to them as him and Rita weren't married. I didn't think it worked like, surely he's on the birth certificates so a marriage certificate shouldn't make any difference to whether they're legally his or not. Confused

Prettybird Seeing areas you know adds an extra dimension doesn't it! We watch Harry Potter films and look out for locations shot near where we live. Smile

noeyedear · 25/10/2010 08:23

I thought if you weren't married, you had to turn up to the registry office and do something in order to have parental responsibility? It does sound odd though! They wouldn't put them into care rather than have the parent looking afer them, would they?

Rita's diaries are a bit brief though- they looked like appointment diaries- not diaries where you write your innermost thoughts! There is one sentence on every page. And why if you were trying for a baby with your long term partner would you deliberately have children with someone else and make him believe they were his?

"the email that said he had no legal right to them as him and Rita weren't married. I didn't think it worked like, surely he's on the birth certificates so a marriage certificate shouldn't make any difference to whether they're legally his or not"

Maybe PR is different in Scotland ? Presumably Stuart could have checked the birth certificates, even without precise details, although he didn't seem to know of the other 3 originallu and his dd's were similar ages so would his wife be so tolerant of that idea ? Dave did admit Rita had gone awol for 6 weeks when the elder son (Paul ?) was conceived.

btw why has BIL suddenly done a bunk and won't the hotel bill on the expense account cause ructions next.

prettybird · 25/10/2010 09:45

Think all the kids were born before 2006, so he won't have parental responsibility unless they had formally anrranged it.

From the CAB - Scotland section:

From 4 May 2006, an unmarried father who jointly registers the birth of his child with the child?s mother will automatically acquire full parental responsibilities and rights towards the child and he will share these with the child?s mother. An unmarried father who jointly registered the birth of his child before that date will not suddenly acquire these rights. He would have to enter into a parental responsibilities agreement with the child?s mother or go to court to acquire these rights and responsibilities.

Am I right in saying it's the last episode next week (seem to recall it was only four episodes)?

If so, they've got a lot to tie up in a short space of time!

Yes, thought glamorous mother was very understanding - I assume she's known about Lucy all along?

MaudOHara · 25/10/2010 10:38

Has no-one mentioned Sarah's DH getting off with Tanya Shock

Equally Shock at the Tanya/Matt snog!

noeyedear · 25/10/2010 12:56

Eh? I ompletely missed the Tanya/Matt snog! When was that? I wasn't even on t'internet at the time!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 25/10/2010 13:12

It was in the trailer for next week's episode.

noeyedear · 25/10/2010 13:16

Blimey! Next week's episode is going to have to be 3 hours long to fit in all the shennanigens! Didn't Lucy's father say he wanted to adopt her in the trailer too?

tegan · 25/10/2010 13:21

i really like matt, what has he been in before tho???

Dave paid for the hotel with the company credit card so thats a lead on to something else happening.

Evie is gonna let it slip that dave was in bed with sarah.

Stuart's family seem a little weird and his wife is very strange.

if all the kids aren't dave's why was rita with him?

GettinGhoulish · 25/10/2010 14:52

matt - he was in Luther, the colleague at the end who stopped them from shooting him.

Watching this latest episode of Single Father tonight so shouldn't be looking at this thread!

GettinGhoulish · 25/10/2010 15:10

This took me a while to work out - Thomas in Lark Rise to Candleford is married to Rita's sister. Knew I recognised him from somewhere but has a completely different voice.

wigglybeezer · 25/10/2010 16:18

I think Rita's issues about being in control, mean that she could have arranged things so that her kids were only "hers" ie, she wouldn't have to share them with him if she broke up with Dave (she said in her diary that she wasn't sure about him). She wanted a family and needed a Dad figure but wanted ultimate control over the children due to her issues about being adopted. That's how I see it and think the kids will turn out not to be dave's ('tho I hope I'm wrong!).

Euphemyknifeinyourback · 25/10/2010 19:37

Which hotel restaurant were they in in Edinburgh? The street scene made it look like West Port/Bread Street, but then the Castle would have been closer. But what a view! I want to go!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 25/10/2010 20:56

Gettin, he was also the hilarious Dr Statham from The Green Wing!

I thought that about Rita's strategy- Stuart mentioned more than once that she wanted a baby, but no strings. If she knew DT wouldn't have parental responsibility, then she probably thought if it all went pear shaped, she could bugger off with the kids and he'd either have no rights if they are his, or she could turn round and say they weren't his anyway. I know someone who did this in RL too, although the father is the father and involved IYSWIM.

DH says Rita is in some new series on account of her duff deal on this one.

Imagine the scene:

Agent: I've got a great role for you, David Tenant's partner in a four-part TV show!

Rita: Oooh goody! Oooh yummy!

Agent: Yeerrrs, unfortunately you die in the first 3 mins. Ah well, that;'s life eh?

Howww yummy was DT in the shag scene eh? oooooooohhhh
