Anyone else going to watch this?

OP posts:

Love the kids names so far too - DS2 is a Ewan and was going to be Evie if he were a girl Grin

I dont believe any of that either BrightLight. There is no way a copper would leave him like that - on the side of the motorway when he's that distressed???

and I know some school professionals and council workers etc can be bitches, but really??? dont believe it for a second.

lottiejenkins · 10/10/2010 21:47

I thought the same about leaving him there!!

smokinaces · 10/10/2010 21:57

I hate that she kissed him. I hate that the last person he kissed is not his wife and he can never get that back.

MollieO · 10/10/2010 22:00

Can someone explain something. I saw the bicycle crash at the beginning of the programme but the woman killed was blonde. I missed the second time it was shown as ds decided to kick off. Was it the same woman or was it different (ie his wife). If different who was/is the blonde woman?

I stopped watching Downton Abbey as I failed to follow the plot so I don't want to have the same problem here. [thick emoticon]Blush

ChaosInCamelot · 10/10/2010 22:00

I am wondering how they could afford such a lovely house!

Not that impressed. Knew he'd end up with theblonde one as soon as they set up that tent together.

ScaryFucker · 10/10/2010 22:02

I cannot abide David Tennent

is he as annoying in this as he usually is ?

BelleDameAvecBroomstick · 10/10/2010 22:04

SF yep...

PfftTheMagicDragon · 10/10/2010 22:07

yes, scary fucker he is

the plot is thin, the characters are annoying.

ScaryFucker · 10/10/2010 22:07

oh yuk, glad I didn't subject myself watch it

ApocalypseCheese · 10/10/2010 22:08

Sobs

OnionBhaji · 10/10/2010 22:15

which character was his first wife?

She was there but not sure which one and who was the guy in glasses who told him about the compensation money?

MollieO · 10/10/2010 22:19

He was Robin - no idea who Robin is in terms of plot.

Come on someone must know the answer to my question. Smile

Pixel · 10/10/2010 22:22

Mmm not really impressed. None of the characters seems very likeable, even the children are selfish little brats! When the mother and sister arrived the sister started off by being incredibly rude as she swept into the house, and then there was the terrible truancy lady. Tbh I don't care about any of them much.

I was wondering about the enormous house too. Not bad on a photographer's wages (and whatever Rita was - teacher's assistant?).

What a shame, I was looking forward to this.

potplant · 10/10/2010 22:23

I didn't get who the first wife was. Is it the one off Corrie?

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 10/10/2010 22:27

Her from corrie is late wifes friend, the red head sitting with her when il's turned up.
What i'm most confused about is it is supposed to be set in scotland is it not? At one point when he is trying to figure out where his sd is going instead of school she refers to year 11's but we don't have year 11's in scotland.

prettybird · 10/10/2010 22:28

Re the house: we live in a similar house just along the street that we bought 11 years ago for £136k. They are not as expensive as people in England might think they are. This area is incredibly good value :)

BTW - there is not bus stop where the girl couaght a bus from Wink (although they do go along the road that the bus then turned into)

prettybird · 10/10/2010 22:31

INeedACleanr: They also refer to 6th Form and we don't have 6th Form in Scotland - altohugh as dh said, they are tranmitting this in England and they don't realise that other parts of the UK have different systems HmmWink

....whereas we, of course, will at least be able to translate what the writer meant by 6th Form Grin

teej · 10/10/2010 22:33

I did watch this and liked it so far - think we've deliberately been given a few red herrings in the plot.
Re the wife - I don't think they were trying to portray her as horrid, rather just underline the fact none of us knows what tomorrow will bring. We get on with our daily lives being noisy, argumentative, stressed and then for some - poof! - it's all gone. The wife was worried and stressed about the future that she was never to have -I think that's what the scriptwriters were trying to get across.

Insofar as the hubbie and the blonde are concerned - again they are not meant to be bad people - they're both just trying to fill the void of their loss. They will probably make a right hash of things by not realising it before any further damage is done, but that's what it is.
I think next week will be really interesting - where he is going to find out about Rita's past and realise how little he really knew the love of his life. And again doesn't that resonate with many couples? Not because there are any great secrets, but because that was just a different person, a different time.

Mimile · 10/10/2010 22:34

it's meant to be in Glasgow - although not sure where. Can you give a pointer prettybird?

really liked it otherwise

teej · 10/10/2010 22:36

Robin (mark heap - always superb) was DT's brother in law and also his lawyer I think?

MollieO · 10/10/2010 22:38

Please may someone answer my question?

expatinscotland · 10/10/2010 22:41

What a load of mince. Was going okay till he snogged the pal. Predictable, unoriginal oad of shite.

Wife dies = replace her with another shag before she's even cold in the grave, her pal, no less.

And aye, that hoose. On a TA and small-time photographer's salary?

Aye, right.

So she was supposed to have 5 weans?

Aye, right.
