It's a bit sad/OTT to compare one of Scotland's best and most commercially successful actors to a smackhead, non? Hmm

expatinscotland · 11/10/2010 20:04

Not when he looks like one. He looks like a junkie ex-con from Renfrewshire. In fact, I'd like to see him do a Ken Loach film or something, bet he'd be brill in that.

Shudder.

You lot would have loved our former downstairs neighbour.

He was a dead, literally now, ringer for DT except with blue eyes.

You'd feel sorry for him after meeting him, till you had to live near him!

Arsehole.

I wasn't sorry to see the back of him.

Paolo Nutini also looks like a junkie ex-con from Paisley who busks in Buchanan Street. I love his music, though!

MrsSaxon · 11/10/2010 20:38

Well, I thought it was great and that Davis Tennant is a fine actor and very hot.

So there. [blowing raspberry emoticon]

MrsSaxon · 11/10/2010 20:39

And David Tennant is also not bad either.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 11/10/2010 21:59

some couples do not have an almost telepathic link outside of television. There is no such thing. It was utter bollocks

Pixel · 11/10/2010 22:31

Yes it was cringy and they had to show it twice for maximum cringyness. Apart from anything else, I doubt anyone would actually have time to mouth "I love you" in the split second between being hit by a speeding car and hitting the ground.

expatinscotland · 11/10/2010 23:23

What Pfft and Pixel wrote.

Identical twins might share a telepathic link.

Anything else = bullocks.

DT = not enough balls to tell the BBC, 'Fuck you, I'm Scottish and I sound like it. There have been Scottish Dr Who's in the past, the last one told you he was Manchurian and spoke like one so fuck you'.

= wuss sissy boy.

I'm Southern US. I sound like a female version of Matthew McConoughey or like Jerry Hall and if anyone told me to pretend 'RP' or some shit like that I'd tell them to go straigh to H-E-L-L.

He's an insult.

My children sound like Scottish people because they are.

I told them if someone tells them to modify their accent to tell them to go to Hades because I need to put it politely for now.

But that show's just shit and so is he. A big ol' wuss.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 12/10/2010 07:33

just another reason that Christopher Ecclestone is superior, no? Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 12/10/2010 08:54

Isn't Manchuria somewhere in China? I didn't know Christopher Eccleston came from there Wink

Dumbledoresgirl · 12/10/2010 08:56

Actually, I do agree with you Expat, I can't see any reason why DT could not have kept his natural accent for Dr Who. But the fact that he can do a faultless English accent does actually add to his list of talents. Smile

nymphadora · 12/10/2010 09:03

Kiss spoilt it for me, the other stuff could have improved.

Police and EWO totally unrealistic.

teej · 12/10/2010 11:00

Re: DT accent in Who - wasn't the accent all about how Russell T Davies conceived the character of the 10th doctor? Mmm actor playing a character in an accent - that's novel Wink.

I love love love Chris Ecc and am glad he was in a unique position to call the shots with the Beeb. It might not seem like it now but they were taking a huge risk bringing back Dr Who and to snag an actor with the serious acting creds and (at that point) high profile of Chris Ecc, the team were happy to play ball with him. DT, while something of a rising star at the time, didn't have the same clout - as evidenced by the fact he was paid less, too.

expat as mentioned in the other thread, if your idea of a "proper" Scottish actor is Sean Connery then thank goodness DT, Ewan Mcgregor etc are people you dislike/hate!

Bue · 13/10/2010 16:27

I just got around to watching this. I got that Lucy was Rita's daughter from her first marriage, but who the heck was the blond girl? Did she keep calling DT 'Dad'? And if so where did she live? How old was she? David Tennant is far too young to plausibly play the father to a child that age.

Very disappointing overall. AND I can't understand any of the accents despite having lived in Scotland for a year! I have to turn it up to volume 20 to have a hope of getting the dialogue first time round. Blush Go easy on me, I'm Canadian!

prettybird · 13/10/2010 16:34

David Tennant is 39, so could easily have a child that age if he had "started" Wink relatively early Grin

Those are "posh" Scottihs accents, so should be easily understood Wink. Now if you want broad accents, try Taggart!

CJCregg · 13/10/2010 16:47

Just watched it. Felt I had to wade in re the snot and the kiss. Good characterisation, I thought - Suranne Jones doesn't want kids, and any self-respecting mum would have wiped that snot off him pronto. Probably would have put the kibosh on the snog, though ...

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 13/10/2010 16:52

I'm guessing that the "SJ doesn't want kids" line is going to turn into a heartbreaking IF story next week? Hmm

They usually do IME.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 13/10/2010 16:54

I thought he was playing a man nearing 40 - see no reason why he can't be the father of the blonde girl. She was what, 17/18 maybe younger?

Bue · 13/10/2010 18:17

Ah, here's the info from the BBC website:

Tanya (Sophie Kennedy Clark) - Dave?s 18-year-old daughter by his first marriage.

The great mystery of my day is cleared up.

noeyedear · 17/10/2010 21:29

Am I the only one watching this this week?

zisforzebra · 17/10/2010 21:35

Nope, not the only one I'm watching too. I can't believe what a bitch Rita's sister is though.

noeyedear · 17/10/2010 21:48

No me neither! She wants a slap! At least I've managed to work out who everyone is!

noeyedear · 17/10/2010 21:58

WTF!!!!!!!! That was a bit fast!

potplant · 17/10/2010 22:02

I'm watching.

Am Hmm at how easy he found the real dad.

lottiejenkins · 17/10/2010 22:17

I saw Tina from Me Too in it tonight!!!
