DD told me her 14 year old sister has had sex

I have two DDs, DD1 is 16 and DD2 is 14. They are in Y12 and Y10. DD2 moved up a group at her favourite sport and now trains with the 14-18 group, she seems to have made a lot of friends, many of them go to school with DD1.

DD1 told me on Sunday that DD2 has had sex, she said a girl she goes to school with told her, and when she asked DD2 she didn’t deny it. Apparently the boy has just turned 17 and is in DD1s year.

I have asked DD2 about this, I’ve reassured her I won’t be mad but if she has had sex then we need to get her tested at the very least, but she just denies it and goes quiet. I don’t know what to do? Do I report it even if she won’t admit it? Stop her going to the sport? Stop her going out?

We’ve obviously had the chat about contraception, staying safe, speaking up if you felt pressured or didn’t consent etc.

I genuinely have no idea how to handle this please help me.

Ah yes. I can see from posting history you’re a lawyer across multiple disciplines including criminal law, employment law, conveyancing law, family law, etc etc. ChatGPT law come into it?

For a multi disciplined lawyer you sure post a lot throughout the working day too!

It's bad netiquette to trawl through someone's history.

Surely the first issue the OP needs to address is the current relationship between the sisters and the impact one suspects of DD2 being moved up

from what she has said there is every chance that DD2 is telling the truth and the DD1 is part of the rumours being spread

So every adult woman walking around today is squeaky clean, are they? They never fooled around and lost their virginity in their teen years, did they? We know a lot of young girls are having sex, you can't say every single one of them was raped, otherwise there are a lot of women today who could make a claim about a historic rape. We are in that era with the grooming gangs, are we not? If she was actually raped, it will come to light in time because the little'un will admit it or let it slip out, not because a bunch of strangers on the internet became armchair experts and piled on.

True I was 15 but a perfectly willing participant. I think I even told the lad I was16

@youalrightHold on, you not only essentially gave your 14yr old outright permission but full on ENCOURAGED her to have underage sex, by putting her on the bloody pill?!? At 14?????
Breathtaking. Just breathtaking.

So it would've been better for her daughter to not use contraception? If he was having sex anyway her mum saying no wouldn't have stopped her. Surely the better thing is to make sure she's protected

I thought it was statutory rape still. Has the law changed.

Under 13 is statutory rape. Its been the same since the 80s at least. A friend of mine got pregnant at 14 by her13 year old boyfriend and those were the rules then

There is no statutory rape in the UK.

Just because someone thinks they are a mature woman at 14 doesn't mean they actually have the capacity to make this kind of decision.

This is why relationships between older teenagers and younger teenagers, not to mention those between adults and those under the age of consent, are taken seriously. No, there will not be prosecution in every case that the police know about, but kind of the point of a) laws and b) adults having responsibility for children is to save children from decisions they think they are old enough to make BUT THEY AREN'T.

I know a just-16 and a 15 7/8 having sex will not be taken seriously/prosected but a 14 year old and an 18 year old probably would even if the 14 year old moans about her agency and self-determination.

It's not statutory anything. It's just rape.

It's unlawful sex.

Believe her but also acknowledge that he may want to / she may want to, either now or in the future and encourage her to talk to you. Offer to make an appointment to discuss contraception and keep making the offer.

My parents were strict but I still found places/ ways to do it, trying to lock her down and stop her seeing him won't work, it will just damage your relationship with her.

Do everything you can to boost her confidence and self esteem. I got pregnant at 14, I consented to sex but looking back I was pressured into unprotected sex and I didn't have the confidence to say no.

'Lawstuff.org.uk'??
that site is paraphrasing the law into terms that are commonly understood in mainstream culture, not representing the law as it actually is written. There is no offence of statutory rape in the uk. Penetration of the body of a child under 13 is rape. Drop the word statutory as it's meaningless and confuses people who then think it's automatically considered legally rape of a child 13-15 who has consented to sex, which it is not.

actual CPS guidance from the legislation below.

Again, not sure what you’re getting at other than some sort of thinly veiled suggestion I’m not a lawyer? More than content with my posting history, thanks. Unless you actually want to point out what I’ve said that you think is wrong, which you haven’t, all a bit childish.
