cant sleep keep thinkin bout thursday. ds gettin his results n my stomach just turns over every time i think of it. i feel like if he dont get what he needs then i failed him as a mum.

hes such a quiet boy, keeps to himself, xbox n music, but hes had same help as the other kids so what if it werent enough?? i keep picturing him openin that envelope n its all fails 😢 what will happen then??

i been cryin in the bathroom tonight so the others dont see. just wanna protect him but i cant do this bit for him.

any other mums feel like this?? like u just wanna take it away from them.

@ChangingChances89congratulations and happy birthday to your son! Just a thought- if he gets accepted into college - do some reading about the course, resists for maths and what his future options look like. Find out how you can support him or gets extra support for him. People do so much better with the correct support but it is difficult to know what this is.

thanks so much 💐 we’re just happy he’s passed most things tbh. if he has to start level 2 first then that’s fine he can build up, he’s keen on sport so i think he’ll stick at it. just glad it’s not as bad as i was fearing.

He must be so proud of himself!
That's such good news OP.

Sillysop92 · 21/08/2025 12:44

Congratulations and Well done to your lad! I hope he enjoys his course. I had the same feelings with my son, he did ok and got what he needed but he was a little disappointed. I told him GCSEs are a stepping stone to the next stage and you did it!

AwkwardPaws27 · 21/08/2025 13:34

That's great. Fingers crossed he enjoys his course.

When I worked in a college years ago, one of my colleagues resat her GCSEs in Maths & English at the same time her daughter was doing her GCSEs! She passed both with good grades & was so proud of herself for going back to do them. Could you maybe do something similar? It might help you feel more confident to support your son & your younger kids with their future studies, homework etc?

ChangingChances89 · 21/08/2025 14:04

thank you all 💐 he’s had a good birthday so far and is happy which is all i wanted really. i know maths will need sorting but we’ll cross that when we get to it. just feels like a weight off today.

I suspect he was sneakily doing some revision when you thought he was on his x box 🤣

Not all places do enrollment today.

flawlessflipper · 21/08/2025 14:56

Well done to DS.

ChangingChances89 · 21/08/2025 15:11

Get moving, you don't want the spaces to fill up.

Cake can wait!

That might not be how it works at the college OP’s DS wants to go to. Some operate an appointment system. And some are organised so they don’t become full before later appointments on results day.

Fair point. But with needing a resit he's not necessarily straightforward so I'd phone or go.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 21/08/2025 15:25

I'm so confused

A couple of weeks ago you had no idea when his results even were. Then you got loads of advice about applying which you didn't act on. Then you said he was doing nothing over his summer. Then you asked about college again and got all the same advice again while you apparently hadn't done anything

Then you post terrified hes going to fail. You've apparently applied but still don't know the entry requirements

Then your son has passed and you are arent running to the college.

It makes no sense?

thanks everyone 💔 i just sit here panickin n my brain goes to the worst. i didnt even know the 1-3s still count, i thought that was just fails. shows what i know 🙈

he hasnt had tutors or nothin, just whatever school give. i did email before about extra help but they said he was “coping ok” which dont really feel true when he dont talk to no one.

im gonna try stay calm n smile for him like u say. he dont need my stress on top of his. i just wanna hug him n tell him im proud no matter what.

thank u for remindin me theres other ways n not the end if he dont get it right first time. i probly needed to hear that.

I agree with you OP. I understand why you are worried. He is your son and he means the world to you

I think it OP has an appointment she'd have said...

She said she was going to the college this afternoon. That could well be going to an appointment they had at the college.

murasaki · 21/08/2025 15:30

Either way, good luck. It all looks brighter than it did yesterday. And it's a good learning experience for the younger ones.

HappySummerDays · 21/08/2025 15:31

Well done your ds! And you.
Happy happy birthday to him.

THISnewbeginning · 21/08/2025 15:33

Well done op

My ds has just got similar results although not needing a maths resit

He has been allocated an afternoon slot at college tomorrow

spoonbillstretford · 21/08/2025 15:37

That's great OP. DD got 4s in Maths and English and has been accepted on the college course she wanted to do. She actually got 67/100 and 76/100 in the foundation Maths papers, so pretty good. She also starts a part time job next week. Hope the resit goes well.

ChangingChances89 · 21/08/2025 16:12

we’re on our way now promise! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️ he wanted his cake and a bit of time to let it sink in but bags are packed and folder with the papers in it is in my hand. thank you all for the push and the kind words, means a lot 💐

I doubt there will be anyone there now! At my college we had already packed up by 3!

well done to him - you will def need to know there policy on a 3 for maths. He will need to retake it for sure and this will usually be in November.
