This is not for a specific event, just a dress in general. My daughter doesn't wear dresses usually, so I was surprised when she bought it. I don't mind her wearing a dress, but I still wanted to ask for opinions.😁

Design and coverage OK. Source not, as others have said.

CrimsonStar · 01/01/2025 08:35

I think it’s appropriate. Nice basic dress. I suspect it’s inspired by SKIMS (Kardashian) dress.
I have a similar one myself and it goes well with both trainers and heels.

I don't think anything from Shein constitutes the term suitable tbh.

Exactly. They are a bunch of frauds. Many people have had their credit card details stolen by companies like Shein and Temu and they lost a lot of money that way.

Half my wardrobe is from Shein 🤷🏻‍♀️

You are contributing to modern day slavery then. Well done you. 🙄

LetThereBeLove · 01/01/2025 10:06

they’re dressing to fit in and definitely, not dressing to get perved on by grown men.

That may well be the case but it won't prevent pervy grown men from ogling.

HAPPYNEWYEAR2025 · 01/01/2025 11:02

Link doesn't work for me.

There’s nothing wrong with this dress. It’s long. Fitted is fine. My 16 yo dd wears dresses like this and short ones as well.

As for skirts so short and tight you can see your underwear, they’re dressing to fit in and definitely, not dressing to get perved on by grown men. We can extol the virtues of more modest dressing til the cows come home and explain you can see their underwear but teen girls aren’t going to listen. With my dd, I told her every day the colour of her g-string so that she understood I could see it…and that I could see it from the front as she got in the car in the morning! That got her to stop hitching up her already very short skirt…

The dress is horrible, in my opinion. It is too tight and revealing for a child, but as I say, I question what some parents allow their children to wear.
We had an own clothes day recently and the amount of girls who attended in these ribbed, cream or brown all in one leotard type things was ridiculous. They looked ridiculous.
My school are now just quietly considering not doing anymore non-uniform days.
If you say anything to parents, or mention to the children that their attire is inappropriate, you’re met with ‘you shouldn’t be looking anyway’.
People like myself aren’t perving when we complain and tell your daughter that we can see too much. The perverts won’t actually complain will they? They’ll enjoy what’s on show, so worry about the people not saying anything.

I’m just glad I had sons so I don’t have to worry about this.

fantastiq · 01/01/2025 11:20

I don't agree that it's suitable. It's revealing across shoulders and bust and it also very clingy around the hips. It's not suitable for a child which she still is. I very much doubt this is marketed towards 15 year olds. More covered on top or looser and less tight on bottom. Pick one.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 01/01/2025 11:43

I can't see the dress but I wouldn't buy anything from Shein.

They wear leggings and vest tops all the time which do both of those things

zeibesaffron · 01/01/2025 11:56

Its lovely 😀

snotathing · 01/01/2025 13:29

Too tacky and close-fitting for a child.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/01/2025 14:12

I wouldn’t buy from Shein, but it does seem very popular with some teens. Cheap fast fashion and all that. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the dress per se, specially with a jumper, but if it’s cheap clothes she’s after, maybe worth nudging in her the direction of Vinted, which also seems to be popular with that demographic these days too. My DN is always buying and selling on there!

Thanks, the link didn't work for me either.

I think it's too plain and clingy for a 15 year old girl.
But I am not her mum,

Sidebeforeself · 01/01/2025 15:04

Please avoid Shein . Dress is fine!

( ooh that rhymes!)

SpringleDingle · 01/01/2025 15:25

Makes me feel chilly just looking at it! No reason a teen couldn’t wear it (with some woolly socks, a bobble hat and a cardy 😂)

It’s so unethical I couldn’t knowingly put a penny in their pockets.

LavenderFields7 · 01/01/2025 16:01

I think it’s fine, but the main problem will be the quality of material - it’s likely to be thin stretchy Lycra that will look awful imo.

Getmeonaflight · 01/01/2025 16:04

Where the fuck is she wearing it to?

Pringlebeak · 01/01/2025 16:05

My 15 year old waves her cleavage all over the place and point blank refuses to take any clothing input from me. A dress like this would be quite a relief tbh.

Happyinarcon · 01/01/2025 16:05

@Flutterpony

I agree. There’s definitely some strange attempts to shut down discussion about sexualisation of girls

This. Allowing her to buy fast fashion like this is really bad imho.

mitogoshigg · 01/01/2025 16:08

It's fine generally though I suggest a cardigan unless you are based somewhere warmer (sitting here a tad coldGrin)

VenusClapTrap · 01/01/2025 16:49

I’m in possession of a dd that age and I wouldn’t be keen. Fortunately she dislikes anything clingy or revealing. She’s also pretty clued up on the evils of fast fashion - in fact she’d be more likely to lecture me on my purchases, and I try to be an ethical shopper most of the time!

It’s a tricky age for clothes, to be fair.
