This is not for a specific event, just a dress in general. My daughter doesn't wear dresses usually, so I was surprised when she bought it. I don't mind her wearing a dress, but I still wanted to ask for opinions.😁

If it’s from Shein, I’d wonder about the quality of the fabric and the manufacture. Otherwise if she likes it and it suits her, why not. I couldn’t buy from Shein though.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 31/12/2024 22:30

My dd would have worn this when she was 15

Pollyanna87 · 31/12/2024 22:33

Shein is never a good idea.

LetThereBeLove · 31/12/2024 22:34

No. Very slinky and too sophisticated for a 15 year old. Besides the fact it is from Shein.

I don't think anything from Shein constitutes the term suitable tbh.

100% 😔

Half my wardrobe is from Shein 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are pictures from other people who have bout it in the reviews, looks like a standard strappy t shirt dress. Not sure I can see what is inappropriate if I am honest

What is your concern about it @elaineesmith333

I, myself, don't know much about dresses, so i wasn't sure what is appropriate for a teen to wear, i tought it was pretty fine, and i guess most people agree that the style is good (apart from the fact that it's from shein, which i just found out isn't the best place to shop at) but still got some opinions that is was too fitted to the body, that's what i was worried about the most!😓

Is it good? After some searching, most people have said that it's poor quality, I've never shopped there so I can't really form an opinion!🤔

Anyone able to post a screenshot - I can't open the link.

That's the dress!

Imagine it as a layering piece. Maybe with a shirt/jacket over it. I had Lycra catsuits in the 90s but I just wore them with a shirt or jumper over.

She said she wanted to wear a cropped jumper on it so it goes right above the stomach and covers the arms and the neck!😊

My daughter (17) has this dress, it's lovely on.

That's wonderful, I'm sure she's gorgeous! 😊

No
And for $12 it was probably made by 5 year olds working 10 hour days for 50c an hour.

CrikeyMajikey · 31/12/2024 23:52

It has a lot more fabric in it than my DD16 and her friends were wearing at 15. It’s fine.

So was your phone

theduchessofspork · 31/12/2024 23:54

It’s totally fine

mollyfolk · 01/01/2025 01:06

If she is planning to wear a jumper over it, it's beyond fine. I think it's fine anyway.

If she is going to be buying from shein I'd be advising her to discover M&S slips. Another layer underneath helps the poor quality fabric that does not flatter! Although at 15, she'll get away with it.

My mother used to tell me I looked fabulous and I should wear string tops (as were the fashion at the time) while I could.... it was all downhill after 30 she said. And of course she was dead right.

shuggles · 01/01/2025 02:25

@Whoyoutakingto as she kept getting unwanted attention from much older males

You mean "men."

Thatcastlethere · 01/01/2025 02:54

I think it's fine. Very elegant.
I agree a teen might wear it with trainers and a hoodie anyway. That does seem to be the style now. A really skin tight top or dress or bodysuit underneath a massive oversized hoodie and with trainers. Or some kind of baggy jacket.

Flutterpony · 01/01/2025 03:22

Honestly, no. I wouldn’t look and think it’s appropriate for a teen. There again, I spend too much time questioning internally what parents allow their children to go out wearing.
I’m a teacher, so it’s part of the territory. I hate seeing 14 and 15 years coming in with skirts so short and tight you can see their underwear, but say anything and you get accused of being a perv despite being a heterosexual middle aged female. I give up, it’s not my business. However, I think if you’re asking, this dress is too old and I dare say cheap, particularly being from SHEIN.

4pmfireworks · 01/01/2025 03:29

I think it's really surprising how often someone posts a picture of a tight or revealing dress and asks very specifically if it's suitable for a 15 yr old girl.

Happyinarcon · 01/01/2025 04:37

With a jumper over it it would be fine, however I discouraged my daughter from wearing black or red at that age. It just felt too grown up somehow, unless she was a goth in which case it would be more costumey

ChloexB · 01/01/2025 06:14

Looks lovely and classy. You can always return it if it’s see through. My 15 yo would have half her arse hanging out most of the time if I let her 🤣

There’s nothing wrong with this dress. It’s long. Fitted is fine. My 16 yo dd wears dresses like this and short ones as well.

As for skirts so short and tight you can see your underwear, they’re dressing to fit in and definitely, not dressing to get perved on by grown men. We can extol the virtues of more modest dressing til the cows come home and explain you can see their underwear but teen girls aren’t going to listen. With my dd, I told her every day the colour of her g-string so that she understood I could see it…and that I could see it from the front as she got in the car in the morning! That got her to stop hitching up her already very short skirt…
