When did you lose your virginity?

My DD 14 is very sensible and whilst I'm not worried about her, a conversation we had this morning shocked me!
Talking about having sex and the age most people lose their virginities. We talk about 16 as age of consent in UK before she tells me that lots of girls in her year at school (Y9) have already had sex, some even doing it in Y8. DD said most of the girls were pleased to have 'got it out the way'! DD said she was not ready and that was fine too (phew!)
I lost my virginity at 16 and thought that was quite average, I had no regrets. It got me thinking though, what age did you 'lose it' and did you regret it being at that age?

15, with a boy I met at church. Neither of us had any idea of what we were doing. Yikes ! Yes I regret it , not a very nice way to start my sexual life .

Strokethefurrywall · 31/10/2021 04:21

17 in a basement flat in shepherds bush. Totally rock and roll.
Afterwards I left him in bed and headed back upstairs to hang with my mates. I was just pleased to get it the out of the way honestly,
Shortly after, I dumped him and ended up with a total twat for 4 years.

I don’t regret the age at all, but I hated the idea that I should get it out of the way. I was a bit of a misfit at the time and amazed that anyone fancied me so I took the opportunity when I could. Had I actually waited until I’d come into my own (early 20s), I’d probably have been far more confident in myself.

I was 14 and desperately trying to be straight. I was almost 16 when i had sex with a girl. Really regret my first time with a man. Wish i'd only had sex with women.

 1. Fairly drunk but completely consenting and aware. No regrets.
blueplan · 31/10/2021 08:31
 1. We'd been together about two year by then and got married a few years later. We have our 40th wedding anniversary in the next year or so. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever.
JustDanceAddict · 31/10/2021 09:43

Full sex - 21, but most of my friends didn’t lose it til late teens/first year at uni.

happydramatic · 31/10/2021 12:48
@happydramatic if you don't mind me asking, was the waiting til you were married for religious reasons? Did it make your wedding night feel very pressured?
Yes, both Christians. No, it didn't make it pressured, we enjoyed it, and had a lovely relaxing honeymoon to practice. Nothing to compare it to I suppose, and we've certainly improved (and continued to love sex!) over the years 😊

FatAnkles · 31/10/2021 12:54

19, in my first serious relationship with someone that turned out to be a liar and a scoundrel. C'est la vie.

Simonjt · 31/10/2021 16:05

26, no regrets at all, we had a very happy and healthy relationship

Trinacham · 31/10/2021 16:44

Not until 19. I don't feel I would have been ready before that really. Bit of a late bloomer - I was shy.

Trinacham · 31/10/2021 16:45

And I'm now married to him and baby on the way (I'm 31 now!)

EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/10/2021 16:55

@happydramatic thank you. It sounds as though it was the right thing for you.

wertheppl · 31/10/2021 17:06

I was 17 one of the last ones from my group of friends. Most of friends were 13/14 which is shocking a few 15. They were so stupid and just got used by lots of boys but didn't seem to bother 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is going back almost 20yrs now.

Badbadbunny · 31/10/2021 17:07

24

waterlego · 31/10/2021 17:14

I was 17. I’d been with the guy for three months by the time the relationship became sexual, and we were together for three years in total. I don’t regret doing it at that age, but I do regret choosing that person to do it with as he turned out to be a twat.

My DD is 16 and has not yet had a sexual relationship (I obviously can’t know that for certain, but we do talk openly about all sorts of things and I have no reason to think she wouldn’t tell me). She has a lovely boyfriend but it all seems fairly innocent and sweet for now. She has told me she doesn’t feel under any pressure- either from him or from her peers, though quite a few of her friends are sexually active, and most of them are still 15 as she is one of the eldest in her year.

SusannaRowan · 31/10/2021 17:38

22 and I married him, I was a late starter and not typical of my friendship group. I think most were around 16, a few had much older boyfriends, which others were envious of, as they had cars and would get picked up at school. Looking back, this was a bit grim.

BarbedButterfly · 01/11/2021 13:44

14 and this was pretty typical for my year group. No regrets at all.

Keke94LND · 01/11/2021 13:46

I was 16 and the act resulted in years of bullying afterwards so I probably did regret it

MrsGikes · 01/11/2021 16:46

I'm sure I read recently that the average age for first time sex has gone up a little for our current youngsters. 80s/90s I think quite a few people were having their first encounters at age 14/15.
It would be interesting if we put our ages on here ie I was 19 and it was in 1986, so I was a bit of a late starter (terrified of AIDS)

cushioncovers · 01/11/2021 16:48

20

RestingStitchFace · 01/11/2021 18:49
 1. That felt about the right age for me tbh.
RichardMarxisinnocent · 01/11/2021 19:01

@Embroidery

I never get these threads. Why is Prince Andrew cancelled for putting his arm around a 17yo as a 22yo, in a culture when 14yos are still now sexually active and certainly everyone was by 17yo back then. Most women now 35+ were sexually active from 14yo. I do think its too early esp nowadays, but dont get the double standard. Is 17yos having sex a crime, or not?
That was a completely different situation. Firstly she is alleged to have been trafficked and secondly he wasn't 22, he is 23 years older than her.
upaladderagain · 02/11/2021 19:27

A month before I turned 18. Found someone I liked the look of, did the deed, back home to mum and dad, job done on my own terms and in my own time. No regrets.

Graymare · 02/11/2021 19:55

13, bit young with hindsight but I married him later and we were together for 10 years, so no regrets really.

Flowersintheattic2021 · 03/11/2021 21:43

Y9 14. First one was to get out of way and yes regret. Ppl used to say well u may die tomorrow and die a virgin. Obvs an impressionable teen and all that. I then met someone again when I was 14 and same again but we dates for 18 months. Don't regret 2nd one. However to say I started early I haven't had hpv and I can still count on one hand
