I’m getting my forearm blacked out tomorrow!

That’s it really! It’s currently a jumbled mess of a snake/ roses/ leaves but there’s no colour so it’s hard to distinguish what’s going on and I’ve never really liked it so I’m getting the whole arm between elbow and hand blacked out.

never had black out before, has anyone else? Seen it on other people (mostly cool guys in bands tho 😂)

It’s gonna be a 4 hour session 😬

Whether you still like it when you’re 90 would be my issue.

I don't know many 90 year olds who give a toss about what they look like tbh.

If you're lucky enough to get there, there's a chance you'll be wearing a nappy, hobbling around and frail not knowing what day it is. I don't think a tattoo they got when they were younger will be at the forefront of their mind tbh.

Oh for fuck sake

Mamalamadrama · 11/02/2023 14:00

Waiting for the pics 🤣

Grimed · 11/02/2023 14:02

Can you tell if you have a mole that's gone cancerous if it's blacked out? Just thinking out loud.

ShireWifeofNigelFarage · 11/02/2023 14:05

There are lots of interesting things going on with white and grey over black out nowadays, but you need to get a really even black out base and an artist who specialises in this stuff

Best to get any significant moles removed first - a decent tattooist will never tattoo over a mole, freckles are fine though.

Surely that's a risk with any tattoo

Notadrill · 11/02/2023 14:17

Kat von D has recently done same. Good luck, esp with the healing which we know can be the worst bit!

DontLikeMenthols · 11/02/2023 14:39

My boyfriend is currently getting a full torso blackout/bodysuit right now, covering up both sleeves and some of his stomach.

it looks awesome but damn healing is the worst, the scabbing 🤢🤢🤢 I love him but it’s gross and also he struggles to workout etc as it’s quite debilitating, like having an open wound all over your arm 🙃 I’m lucky enough to only have started getting tattoos a couple years ago so they’re al well thought out etc and I won’t have to cover them but it’s a great option for those who want to & also like someone else has shared there are some amazing things being done with white on black too!

hope you love it when it’s finished OP - looking forward to see a pic!

Paying for laser would be wiser. I have a small 25yr old tattoo that I hate and need to get lasered off.

it would be ridiculous to laser off a half sleeve - a small 25 year old tattoo, sure, that would be wise.

would love to hear why you think it would be wiser to pay £1000s to laser off a half sleeve than just get it covered…

It can be useful to get a few laser sessions to lighten large scale tattoos up to give more viable options for cover ups.

(although that does mean months and months of being stuck with something that looks worse before gets better!)

My grandad was heavily tattooed and when he passed away at 84 he said they were his biggest regret ever, they were all droopy and distorted.
Personally, I love tattoos but I think blackout tats are a step too far, I thought the whole point of tattoos is for the beautiful body art created by talented tattoo artists. It’s like going to an art gallery and staring a black canvases!

TimeToFlyNow · 11/02/2023 14:59

I love some of the ones that lead on to other tattoos, like on a pp .

Also the ones that have white tattoos over them .

I've heard healing is a fucker though

AdoraBell · 11/02/2023 15:00

I would get some colours instead of having it blacked out.

speakout · 11/02/2023 15:04

I would be happy about having tattoo ink in my body.
Tattoo ink migrates through the body and can be found in lymph nodes etc,

TenTenEleven · 11/02/2023 15:04

I don't get why people are slagging the premise of that article. Why so defensive?

You're literally changing the colour of your skin from white to black. The article is just pointing out the absolute white privilege of being able to do that without having to even think about being disadvantaged because of having black skin. When black people with actual black skin have to think about that shit all the time.

Fake tan isn't remotely the same thing because white skin tans naturally.

Excited to see OP!

RedCarsGoFaster · 11/02/2023 15:05

Has the tattoo forum been infiltrated by the health anxiety or mild hysteria forum today?

MyComputerLove · 11/02/2023 15:08

desperatehousewife21 · 11/02/2023 07:09

Why the hell would I get it lasered? That’s damn painful and expensive (I know, ironic) and I want it blacked out?

clearly have the wrong audience here in the tattoo section 🙄

You don't get to choose or cancel your audience in a public forum.

You just do you, as you want to do it. Let everybody live their way too.

Just had to google this. Think I have led a sheltered life !

Me too, I’ve never heard of it or seen it. Some of the google images are certainly very interesting and creative.

FannyChmelar · 11/02/2023 15:10

At best, tattoos looks dirty, at worst, they create portals on your body for demonic possession. I’m only half joking.

I've never understood this view. By 99yo your boobs will be around your knees and the last thing you'll be worried about is beauty aesthetics.

At that age you'll be regretting what you didn't do, not what you did.

peasandquiets · 11/02/2023 15:11

Oh God please don't! What could possibly be the appeal?? 😱

Because ‘black’ people aren’t actually the colour of black tattoo ink!

Nobody gets a blackout tattoo in order to look like a person whose ancestors originated from sub-Saharan Africa!

Tattoos have been found on the preserved corpses of thousands of years old ice queens, it’s a form of self expression that predates modern identity politics and belongs to any one who wants to participate.
