too easy

reallygrumpy · 17/06/2010 23:16

blossoming congrats on the job offer, that's great news.
mm I love the shoes you linked to, they're sitting in my basket at the mo.
I'm trying to resist buying anything in the sales cos I've just found out I'm 8 weeks pregnant! Which is v exciting. Scan on mon and hopefully it isn't twins!

The one thing I do need to buy is a dress for my brother's wedding in august, I'm a bit nervous about buying something now and it not fitting but if I leave it the shops will be full of winter clothes. I'm going to have a browse and may post a few links to get views. So far this is the only possibility I've found but it's a bit sack like and could just make me look v fat!

AllBuggiedOut · 17/06/2010 23:34

Ooh congratulations reallygrumpy that's fantastic news (And btw I think twins would be fab!) Presumably you won't be wanting to hide your bump in August, so why don't you go for a full-on bump hugging maternity dress? I always found maternity wear more flattering than larger sized "normal" clothes, and you could get something fab and slinky that you'd wear throughout your pregnancy.

AllBuggiedOut · 17/06/2010 23:36

Thanks for the suggestions for red dresses - the DKNY one was my friend's favourite, but it's sold out in medium at Harvey Nic's and I can't find it anywhere else

blossoming · 18/06/2010 06:55

Morning all!
Fantastic news reallygrumpy. vin linked some lovely Isabella Oliver wrap dresses yesterday.

hf, it is true, in a previous life I was head of languages in a large comp. I normally teach Spanish but can do French to A level too. You're right ltec, I need some stimulation. And think of the spending money!! (Teaching pays remarkably well, for Wales that is).

Morning! Great news grumpy and bloss! Teaching part time sounds like a brilliant thing for parents to do, imo, though I imagine the bureaucracy and the discipline issues could be hard work.

I was dreaming yesterday about a different life where I don't go to work, but home school my children and have a lovely time doing things altogether with them. Pref in the context of Dh getting a well-paid job somewhere like Barbados of course.

grumpy I think that August will be a bad time fashionwise - it's likely to be that bit where you don't look particularly pg but more just like you've been having all the pies. If I were you I might wait and try s'th on nearer the time. I can't remember what size and shape you are - something empire-line, or really fitted, that makes it obvious it's a pg bump rather than beer belly might be a good idea?

I think I might have this IO wrap dress somewhere in red, would you like it? It's probably an 8 or a 10, I'd have to look for the right box in the loft.

Romanarama · 18/06/2010 07:35

cakey I'm not sure I'd spend nearly £800 on wool-lined boots if I was about to go and live in Sydney tbh - though they are v.beautiful. I remember sunbathing in Manly in July once, I bet it's not often cold. Maybe but 5 pairs of Antik Batik sandals instead? Or 25 pairs of Dune ones

Romanarama · 18/06/2010 07:35

buy even

FritziGreenEyes · 18/06/2010 07:44

blossoming - Congrats on the job offer!

reallygrumpy - That is fantastic! I second a wrap dress for the wedding. Maybe just a plain coloured one that you can glam up with accessories for the wedding and then get more wear out of for the rest of your pregnancy during autumn/winter? What colours do you prefer?

The sun is back and it feels like summer again! I am wearing a plain black cotton shift dress from Zara with some detailing at the front (bought two years ago and I still love it), turquoise/coral bead necklace and black Blochs. Will change this afternoon for the garden when DD has some friends round. Then another outfit for this evening. It is our 11th anniversary and we have a babysitter so we can go out for dinner. DH is in London today so I also get a delivery of new magazines. Perfect day .

Romanarama · 18/06/2010 07:46

If anyone needs cheering up, read this hilarious thread about the worst presents people have ever had!

FritziGreenEyes · 18/06/2010 07:47

LTEC - Roma is right, I think. Don't buy the boots. It might not even be a cold winter this year in the UK. I spent a few winters in London and didn't need lined boots once! Buy lovely summer stuff. Much more fun anyway!

FritziGreenEyes · 18/06/2010 08:34

Sorry, LTEC. My last post was a bit too blunt, I think. Of course you can get the boots... What I meant is: The boots are lovely but it just seems a lot of money and therefore might not be exactly wise

carciofi · 18/06/2010 08:35

Congratulations ReallyGrumpy! How many other children do you have?

LTEC, I also think you should say no to the boots.

Happy anniversary, Fritzi Blossoming, good news about the job, well done.

ABO, maybe your friend can call Harvey Nicks in Knightsbridge, they had a couple of dresses in the medium the other day. I bought one for a friend because she likes mine so much.

DD in terrible form and off her food, I thinkk it is teething. It is going to be a loooooong day.

OWW, made the cod and chorizo dish last night and dh was very impressed so thanks again!

carciofi · 18/06/2010 08:36

Tracey, cool top. I think it would be too short on me.

hf128219 · 18/06/2010 08:38

Bloss That's great. I would definitely seriously consider the job offer. Not to mention the mental stimulation - the DVF holiday fund!

hellsbelles · 18/06/2010 08:39

LTEC - can't help thinking the back of those dune sandals is a bit 'school girl'. But they are a good price and the front is pretty.

I love those chloe boots so I'm not objective...but I forgot you are leaving us for sunnier shores...so I agree it may be a rather wasted purchase.

RG - congratulations! I agree it's worth waiting a month to see bump size!

Bloss - hurrah for job offer (despite dubious timing)

Dolcee - I too felt weird the first day or so but now I am filled with energy....really I have so much more than normal. So if you can bear it, keep going.

I have work today and I'm being good about avoiding links.

OllieWollieWoo · 18/06/2010 09:04

Just running out the door off to France - wanted to say bye tho! Will hopefully be able to keep up on DH itouch - or as he calls it - don't touch! Have fun all!

FritziGreenEyes · 18/06/2010 09:06

Have a great holiday OWW!

LetThemEatCake · 18/06/2010 09:37

happy hols OWW and

CONGRATULATIONS REALLYGRUMPY!!! What fabulous, happy news. So pleased for you. I guess if you're 8 weeks already then Cazza V can't take credit for this one huh??

Romanarama · 18/06/2010 10:23

Happy hols OWW. I'm off to buy the ingredients for Chorizo and cod too, will make it this evening I think!

vinauchocolat · 18/06/2010 11:50

Have a great holiday oww! reallygrumpy that's super news!! I agree with Roman wait until nearer the time, in August you probably won't look pregnant as such. Oh how exciting

blossoming felicidades! I am itching to get back to work, postponed the date I was going back, but really am sooo bored. I think some part time teaching would be great, just enough to give DVF funds and brain stimulation!

everything thank you for your post. Deep makes sense, I am definitely a crossover with A/W (winter, not wise of course!)

Also, I hadn't actually thought about the bike, you're totally right it would be completely useless! Still, the chances of me actually getting on DP's bike are slim to none right now (last time he went off for a bike ride sans me he crashed badly at traffic lights, and was helped up by a granny, he also has lots of screws and plates in his legs from a bad crash...) hmm!!

Oh and I bought those weight things after I had DC1 but I never used them.. do they work?

First day of Dukan here.. have been merrily munching and drinking vino and have realised my indent has turned into a huge cake shelf
However, I have already buggered up breakfast (not a prawn in sight, munched lots of carbs)
I am therefore resuming normal food intake until tomorrow. But then I'm meant to be going out to giant lunch on Sunday.. oh dear..

vinauchocolat · 18/06/2010 11:54

OK I conclude I shall throw Dukan and wiseness to the wind until Monday (new week, new start, blabla) when I will have also received the shred DVD. mañana mañana..

psst LTEC, those Chloe boots are lovely I don't know how hot Sydney is in winter, though. When are you moving?

hellsbelles · 18/06/2010 11:57

OWW - have a wonderful time

LTEC - may I ask who you used for the home beautifying? I need to sort something out for next week. I can see no way of getting my nails done for the wedding (work work work) unless it's an evening home visit.

traceybath · 18/06/2010 12:10

Reallygrumpy - congratulations! I think that this 'celeb' has looked fab during her pregnancy.

LTEC - did you purchase the boots?

Am tired and snappy today - nearly bit DH's head off when he helpfully suggested Bea doesn't sleep well because she doesn't eat enough. As though I hadn't thought of that - anyway apologised as know he's trying to help but aaaggghhh what can I do? She is hysterical if I don't bf her - and woke 4 times last night.

But I am wearing my white skinnies today

blossoming · 18/06/2010 12:11

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to have to have a serious talk with dh re spending money. If I can keep all of a part time salary for dvf dresses, miu miu handbags, chloe (freezing in Wales)/belstaff boots, jbrands... Ok just netaporter in general then it would be very attractive. But if he sees it as a way of reducing my housekeeping, it's not so good.
I use to get a generous, over £200 a month in carer's allowance. Then a similar amount for my winter evening classes. No wonder I'm scraping the barrel for sales on eBay!

I love teaching, but it's an ugly job. One would need beautiful things to compensate. For sanity/mental health reasons of course.

oww, have a great holiday!
