pointy do you really not know what a ped egg is?

cyb · 27/04/2010 20:48

and where do the sloughed off bits go normally?

I have never seen one eother You would need to have shoddy feet to shave off enough! It looks like it would cut me to ribbons!

Mirrorball · 27/04/2010 20:53

May I add a vulgar element to this thread? I have just a nailbed on one of my big toes - can I have a gel/acrylic put on - does anyone else have a manky toe too?

pointydog · 27/04/2010 20:58

no, have never seen of heard of a ped egg. The ped egg is strange, not me. My sloughage goes on bathroom floor and then I sweep it up. I don't keep it like pencil sharpenings

I thought that was goingto be another shaving vid. It is cheesy canadian Fame, no?

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 27/04/2010 21:02

I've been keeping quiet, Mirror - but I only have 2/3 of a nail on my right big toe and 3/4 on the left.
Where the missing nail should be is rough-looking nailbed.
I got mine on my first skiing holiday 4 years ago, wearing too-small boots for 3 days. Both nails went black and dropped off, and have been veeery sloooowly growing back since.
I'm hoping there's a wonder liquid that will spur them into growth.

noddyholder · 27/04/2010 21:07

It looks like something to sprinkle on bolognese

Mirrorball · 27/04/2010 21:14

Oh OLOPS, mine was ingrown and removed under general anaesthetic years ago, and the nail bed burned. Horrid. A little bit still grows back sometimes which I enjoy picking off... like I said - horrid. Nail transplant perhaps? I'm pretty sure if you have something there for a gel nail to attach to, you'd be ok - I'm not sure about attaching a false nail to skin though.

RedBlueRed · 27/04/2010 21:14

I had never heard of a Ped Egg until this thread.
I'm pleased to say that my feet are actually quite acceptable with very little effort on my part however, this morning in the shower I used my foot file for the first time in months and applied moisturiser just to be sure, so I think I am sandal-ready.

trixymalixy · 27/04/2010 21:26

moondog, i've been trying with tea tree oil. how long did it take to work for you?

moondog · 27/04/2010 21:33

wEEKS.

fishie · 27/04/2010 21:39

dear friends with missing toes etc, have you been to gp? this is dreadful.

trixymalixy · 27/04/2010 21:49

I've been trying with the tea tree oil for about 9 months now. maybe I'm not doing it often enough as I keep forgetting. Did you do anything like file your nail down or did you just keep painting on the surface?

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 27/04/2010 22:03

Fishie, gp checked for fungal infection (which was absent), but seemed strangely uninterested in helping me make my feet sandal-ready once this was established.

But there are only a handful of sandals in existence I can possibly wear, as, just to pile on the hideousness, I have a 1 inch gap between my big toe and the rest of them.

Sandals which show minimum amounts of toe are not easily found in these parts.

RedBlueRed · 27/04/2010 22:40

I was just doing a little searching and found the following advice on this forum thread

"I have the same fungal nail problem, and as a diabetic I was concerned about it. When I asked my endocrinologist about it, she suggested applying Vick's Vapo-rub to my feet and the nails every night. I thought she was crazy, but it seems to work, my nails have cleared up considerably and she assures me that it will keep athlete's foot at bay as well."
or...
"the solution is to clean the feet once in the morning and once at night removing as much derbis around and under the nails. applying a drop of vinegar afterward at the cuticle and under the nail from the top is the secret. what this does is put the skin to an acidic state. if this is done on a daily basis the nail sould grow out healthy within 6 to 9 months (depending on how fast yours grow)."

Vicks Vapo-rub or vinegar for pg with fungal infection?

trixymalixy · 27/04/2010 23:19

Love the name cain! Thanks for that link, anything is worth a try!!

moondog · 28/04/2010 00:24

Trixy, I did it religiously about 3 times a day as I had already tried ointments and pills (all prescribed by doc) which did nowt. Splash it on, woman!

dinkystinky · 28/04/2010 08:45

Trixy - am with you. I got a fungal infection when pregnant with DS2 and couldnt take anything - apparently cant take anything at all while still bfing (which I am) so have tried tea tree oil (though only once a day) with little effect. Will give the vicks vaporub a go - cheers Cain (great name BTW).

fishie · 28/04/2010 10:16

ourladyofperpetualsupper SO DO I, can wedge things in and carry them around. and i am more than happy to bare my feet.

and i've got really long toes and wide front of foot with narrow heels and v high arch so i am possessor of flippers.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/04/2010 12:21

Fishie, you're the first person outside my family I've come across with the same feet.

I probably am too sensitive < traumatised by memories of 7 yos in gym pointing and saying 'ew! Look at her feet!' then getting cramp due to squeezing toes together the rest of the lesson >, but if I wear shoes where the toes are too open the big toes actually slide off sideways and drag along the floor.

Mumsnut · 28/04/2010 19:26

Our Lady, my mum had this 'gap' and it turned our she had something called a Morton's Neuroma. She had a lot of discomfort and then a very painful and useless operation.

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 29/04/2010 14:16

Well I've got me some Flexitol, it's a fearsome shade of old lady beige isn't it? Love the skanky foot photos on the packaging too.

jamaisjedors · 30/04/2010 16:18

Just back from my 1st chiropodist pedicure and possibly my expectations were too high.

There was no sanding going on.

Quite a lot of paring and some nasty yellow bits falling down onto the white towel on her nap (what a job! ).

My feet are obviously loads better but they are not perfect - I think I will give them a soak and a scrub tomorrow and flexitol them tonight.

SuSylvester · 01/05/2010 15:46

GREAT at YEWLlo bits! she sanded me
