Boden USA sale starts first and stock plummets!!!

I noticed that the USA sale had started today and was told by someone on the phone that their stock came from a seperate warehouse and the UK would be completely unaffected. However...I had been watching a few items (they were in my basket) and the gold brogue pumps were available in gold in most sizes last night and now they are totally sold out and when you check the stock it's the same on both sites.

I just can't beliebe Boden start the US sale first, what about their loyal British customers??!!

Hello again.

Boden have called us to say the Sale 'may well' start earlier than 10am. Best to start keeping an eye from 8am apparently...

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 12:11

helen, you put your own order through first! then pass on johnnie's bodenhotline info.

have my eye on a dress but i am s12, that's always first size to go.

that handprinted red cardigan somebody mocked is lovely imo!

Northernlurker · 09/12/2009 12:23

Well I was very dubious about this yesterday but just been looking at a coat that I've watched for a while and suddenly it's sold out in blue - I just don't believe that there are that many people in this country buying it before the sale!

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 12:23

i just looked on the usa site, and the measurements given for their 12 are the same as a 'uk 12'.

The dress i want is available there even in the sale, at 70 dollars! but it's sold out on the UK site at full price in size 12!

i have to pay £4 postage as i'm in ireland anyway so would it be asking for trouble to order a size 12 from a usa website. ??

[confused dithery face]

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 09/12/2009 12:30

hmm, i don't believe them. i had about gbp200 in my shopping bag of mini boden waiting and over half has sold out. Really? they've been in there for weeks and suddenly just before the sale starts everyones buying them?

purplepeony · 09/12/2009 12:31

Maybe ladies it's both- a USwarehouse and a UK one and when the US one is empty they then start picking at the UKone? It makes no snese to send clothes all the way to the US from Leicester, otherwise.

Re query of ordering from the US site- P&P will surely be more, and you might get stung for import duty on the vlaue of the order.

lucykate · 09/12/2009 12:34

i live about 30mins drive from the leicester warehouse, i could go and barricade the doors shut so no more stock can be sent to america, would that help?

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 12:35

i just registered with the usa site, and put the dress in my basket, $10 delivery the same pretty much as £4 so so far so good.

BUT their website is only set up to deliver to addresses within the us anyway. there's no drop down list for other countries. just zip codes.

purple, i did think of duty, but on 70 dollars would you not be alright??i don't know!

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 12:37

yeah luckykate!! you do that!

lucykate · 09/12/2009 12:39

i buy a lot of fabric from america, am pretty sure if the product (not including p&p), costs over £18, there is a £12 import duty charge. i got stung by it once so now split any orders to below £18.

right, am off in the car with some nails and a hammer, nothing will be leaving that warehouse till friday's sale has begun

BonjourIvressedeNoel · 09/12/2009 12:49

Boden are clearly full of shit. They definiely need to give us a sale preview now for pissing us about and lying to us.

purplepeony · 09/12/2009 13:37

Who's going to cut, paste and email this entire thread to Johnnie- oh, okay then, i will!

purplepeony · 09/12/2009 13:42

ladies I have sent the link to this thread to customer services- stand by your pcs for an early sale!

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 13:46

the dress i want has disappeared out of my basket..

Northernlurker · 09/12/2009 13:59

I have e-mailed them and got this reply:

am sorry for the disappointment caused by the timing of the Boden USA end of season sale. Unfortunately, as Boden USA and Boden UK are, in fact, separate entities, we do not have control of the offers they run or the timing of their sales.

Boden USA also run their sale first as it is a lot smaller than our UK sale and has no effect on our stock as each market has their own stock allocation. Our US market have their own warehouse so their orders are sent from there whilst all UK orders are sent from Leicester. This sale serves as virtually a test run and helps us iron out any problems we face here at Boden UK. This way we can rectify them without causing too many issues.

Which is fine but doesn't answer the question of where all the stock has gone right before the sale......?

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 14:01

do people panic buy? they realise they've had their heart set on owning such an such an item, and when the sale draws near, and they see 'low stock' they panic and lose their nerve and pay full price for it????

i'm not going to crack

kittya · 09/12/2009 14:15

I love the sale system they have in Canada, you buy something, if it gets reduced you go in with your receipt and they refund you the difference. If we had that here that woud explain why people are panic buying now. The stock levels are dire this season they have never once been replenished. Im fed up of it. Do you really think the sale will be that good anyway? if there is hardly anything left they arent going to have to reduce it by much.

purplepeony · 09/12/2009 14:20

well, I have ordered 2 ruched waist dresses which were showing full stock in purple again at the start of this week- they did have 20% when I placed the order on Monday.
I did so on the basis that if they are inthe sale much cheaper, I will return the original, having seen it and tried it for size, get a refund and re-buy at slae price.

kittya · 09/12/2009 14:28

I wish it was pay day!!

Northernlurker · 09/12/2009 14:40

I wonder if a lot of people have bought stuff intending to return it if it's in the sale and buy the sale priced item but then so many have done that there won't be anything in the sale! So Boden win, some people have the things they wanted but at full price and the rest of us shop elsewhere!

TuppyGlossop · 09/12/2009 14:41

I live in the US and shop at Boden. My parcels almost always come from the UK. If I order 4 items I almost always receive 4 small parcels all on different days. They are sent airmail and have the same customs sticker that stuff my family sends has. Very rarely do I receive something from Florida but that is where returns go. Boden Kids is also sold through Nordstrom department store and stuff was reduced there last month - not sure if it is the same stock but it is definitely the same fabrics. Boden is primarily sold through "trunk sales" where you host a Boden party in your home. One of the Boden reps told me that JB hates this as he feels that he has lost control of the way the Boden brand is represented. Hope everything you want is still in stock. I will not be buying anything and will leave everything for you!

MaggieNollaig · 09/12/2009 14:46

hmmm that is interesting Tuppy!!

kittya · 09/12/2009 14:48

So, it does come from the Uk then? Someone is telling porky pies, Boden!

If you have the money then I suppose it makes sense to buy somethng with the 20percent off and then return when it gets reduced but, it is still paying twice for something and, at this time of the year, not an option for me.

Olivia101 · 09/12/2009 15:09

Hello,
From the US website:
"All items are shipped directly from the UK and will be with you within 7-10 business days of despatch."

So there you go. Also they said to Northernlurker they have no control on when the US start their sales, but they do control the Uk sales don´t they? Also i would assume they have some communication with them. Why don´t they start their sales at the same time? Because is not in their interest as a company. As Maggie said, they count on people in the UK to "panic buy" at full price, which will make them more money...
Glad i got that out of my chest

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 09/12/2009 15:13

You've been rumbled Boden...
