Oil cleansing method

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

For anyone interested more info here

If you are using oil as a moisturiser you should apply it with damp hands onto a damp face.

I got my grapeseed oil from the supermarket.

Thanks Nappy addict I will have a look when I go shopping today.

cedar12 · 01/05/2009 08:10

Oh and no new spots today horray!

becksworth · 01/05/2009 16:46

Thanks guys, I'm going to give it a go. Bye-bye blackheads!

toffeeapple · 01/05/2009 19:23

Right, thanks to Nappyaddict, my hair has now gone back to normal. Or should I say, my hair has never been so beautiful and silky in years!!!
Nappy - It's your No Poo thread that helped, I will mention it on there.
But that means I can start the OCM again tonight! I'm sure it doesn't mean that my hair will dry up again, but hopefully my skin will improve.
I will keep you posted!
Thanks again Nappy!

MamaHobgoblin · 01/05/2009 20:24

Just checking in.

I missed a few nights on OCM here and there, partly because I was really tired those nights, and also I'm worried it's drying my skin out. Still have my Heritage Blackheads, but I've noticed that on the days after the evenings I miss OCM out, my skin is much oilier and feels slick down the nose crease. If I use the oils at night, it's better during the next day. So it does seem to be working in a v modest way.

Someone asked me (Nappy?) about 100 posts ago what veg oil I was using. Nothing fancy, it's the stuff labeled 'Vegetable Oil' that you get in Sainsboro, in plastic bottles! We use it for stirfries because olive oil burns.

ihatethecold · 02/05/2009 13:23

hi, i read this thread about a month ago and have now given up my liz earle (something i never thought i would do) i have a 40/40 mix of olive and sunflower oil and 20% castor iol. although my skin is loads better in terms of dry patches, i need more moisture for it. im finding it a bit too drying, can anyone recommend which oil i should adjust it to please..

pollywobbledoodle · 02/05/2009 14:42

reduce the amount of castor oil

ihatethecold · 02/05/2009 15:45

thanks will try that

nappyaddict · 02/05/2009 17:49

The link I posted above tells you which oils to use for oily/dry/blemished skin etc.

here it is again to save you searching for it.

Heated · 02/05/2009 21:37

Thanks from me too, NA. Am going to give this a go. Have placed my order tonight for kukui, castor & almond oil.

chocomilk · 02/05/2009 21:54

I have just been using Olivio cooking oil (contains 15 per cent blended olive oil) for three weeks now since reading this thread, and my skin is heaps better than it has ever been.

nappyaddict · 02/05/2009 21:58

you've just made me make a chocolate milkshake!!

chocomilk · 02/05/2009 22:08

dh says I smell like a chip shop and keep making him want chips.

He's not surprised at anything I do anymore after a previous udder cream on my legs mumsnet recommendation.

nappyaddict · 02/05/2009 22:31

Have you seen my no poo thread

It took about 9/10 days for my hair to adjust. I did find I could no longer wash my hair over the bath using the shower attachment though. I think I wasn't able to rinse the conditioner out well enough that way.

chocomilk · 02/05/2009 22:51

Lol - it has just taken my mind far, far, far too long to work out the meaning of 'no poo'.

Sounds good. I have found that being vegan keeps my hair very soft, so I won't be needing that tip, thanks, but a good one for the oil is to use those glass Spanish type oil pouring jugs.

They look way more stylish in the bathroom than a plastic bottle of Olivio.

Vamonos · 02/05/2009 23:12

Chocomilk - lol - visitors to my bathroom get very about the litre of cooking oil sat on the shelf, really must find something to decant it into...

Horton · 03/05/2009 10:17

I'm still using Bio Oil because I've been too lazy to get any castor oil or anything else but my skin is much better. I haven't had a spot for ages. I'm definitely a convert. My skin seems much smoother and softer and oddly much less greasy.

Tigerbear · 03/05/2009 15:54

Hi all - it's still working for me - yey!
And DH is going to start it tonight too!
The only down side is that my hands have gone very crepey and dry (odd, as my face isn't dry), so will have to start using more hand cream.

tiger, i hsve the same thing.....face skin improved a lot, hands like my gran's!

i suppose tho' i wash them with soap a lot so not surprising.....flexitol hand balm overnight with gloves on once then atrixo regenerating cream seems to have done the trick

chocomilk · 03/05/2009 20:20

christiana, thanks - I have some of that so will try it tonight!

Hmmm - am wondering now what the effect might be of a very small amount of my left over udder cream with it's additional zinc, tea tree and aloe vera properties. Shall I try it?

zisforzebra · 03/05/2009 23:44

Tigerbear - I have the crepy, old hands thing too. I've been doing OCM for about 3 weeks now and it's working quite well for my face (although I am developing some fine lines and dips by my mouth )but definately not for my hands. Very weird...

I'm going to keep going with it for a while longer though because I can't bear the thought of using face wash now.

IrritableGrizzly · 04/05/2009 07:56

I had a bit of a blip about 5 days in; got 3 pesky zits on my chin and was almost ready to give in, but now they've gone and my skin is really looking lovely (though I do say so myself!) Really nice texture and much more dewy than it ever has before. I think the spots must have been the last ones trapped under the skin, and now there are no lumps or bumps under there at all.

I am 99% convinced of this method, but am waiting until my period before I believe it has solved my skin problems totally, as I am so prone to hormonal zits around that time - if it stays clear then, I will shout it from the rooftops that something has finally worked!

Agree about not wanting to use facewash now - just reading the ingredients list on them makes me shudder. So much crap in those things and we just don't need it.
