Oil cleansing method

mammya · 12/03/2009 08:56

Thank you to the mumsnetter who mentionned this a few days ago! I looked it up and have done it a couple of times, and it is fantastic! It has made such an amazing difference to my skin in such a short time: it is much clearer, softer, with no dry patches, and some old stubborn blackheads are finally gone. And it is cheap! What's not to like!

in all fairness, your "freaks category" is quite large is it not?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/04/2009 10:08

whatchoo like, eh?

KaiserSosay · 17/04/2009 10:10

It is.
I have beryootiful skin so it doesnt worry me

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 10:17

well I have a veritable beard of tiny pustules

and I am blaming THIS LOT and their oil-related quackery

I look like I have been deep fried

nappyaddict · 17/04/2009 10:50

How long does it normally take for the flannel to go cool. I only used hot water from the hot tap but it still didn't seem that hot once i'd wrung the flannel out.

toffeeapple · 17/04/2009 11:59

The flannel takes seconds to cool down.
This morning I woke up with open pores all over my face. I've got to stop this it's no good for my skin.
I look like an orange (not in colour but in texture)

HelleborePelargoniaThunderclap · 17/04/2009 12:04

I thought this was a cult until I saw Kewcumber was here. I was expecting someone surrepticiously post a link to a group who worship the divine beings Olivio and FaceCloth and need to know a leeeetle more about us before they let us join......

I'm very tempted to try this. I have skin like sandpaper and will be using a mixture of crude oil and premium grade rocket fuel unless someone points me in a better direction. Possibly involving almond oil, because I have some of that already.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/04/2009 12:05

This thread is for believers only!! Begone foul doubters

Greensleeves - what are you using? If you have oily skin then you need to put some castor oil in your mix.

I run the hot tap until it's almost scalding and then wring out the cloth. By the time it gets to my face it is a little cooler so I don't burn myself.

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 12:06

I'm using half castor oil and half extra virgin olive oil

nappyaddict · 17/04/2009 12:06

toffeeapple i have been told it can take up to 2 weeks for the initial worse before it gets better phase ends. what oils are you using? sunflower, avocado and almond are supposedly very good.

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 12:11

I sooooooo want it to work but seriously, my face is carpeted with tiny little spots, it's vile....like batter

sis · 17/04/2009 12:20

Greensleeves, i think the article said a mix of 30% caster oil and 70% other oil for greasy skin and less caster oil for drier skins. I have very greasy skins and have been trying this for just a few days and seems to be ok so far.

Normally, I use dermalogica daily facial scrub and if I forget or use anything else even for a day or two, I end up with spots but I haven't had any spots for the last week even though I have set aside the dermalogica scrub and just used the oil cleansing method.

MamaHobgoblin · 17/04/2009 12:25

Toffeeapple, can you close your pores with a very cold flannel after you've done the hot ones? I did that last night, felt better.

Am feeling the Doubt, having read everGreensleeves' posts. But I'm going to soldier on through a couple of weeks and see. So far, skin is soft, slightly but not uncomfortably greasy, and dry areas have gone. Pores seem ok. Main problem so far is that we have a bloody immersion tank and therefore, hot water isn't always that hot when you need it to be! Grr.

TsarChasm · 17/04/2009 12:37

I've been very impressed with this but my only concern is the hot flannel.

Too much of that and some skins could be susceptible to broken veins.

I'd suggest not to do this too often (ie every day) or too hot.

toffeeapple · 17/04/2009 12:40

Yeah Mama I'll try and splash my face with cold water afterwards to see if it helps thanks. How about cold tea? Would that help?
Nappy I'm using 40% castor/60% jojoba which is supposed to be good for greasy skin. But I only started that yesterday.
2 WEEKS??? Are you sure? Sounds like a long time with open pores I don't know if I'll be able to resist using my asda scrub (which makes me look more oily anyway).

nappyaddict · 17/04/2009 12:46

My beauty therapist friend says she always tells clients to give a new product 2 weeks before giving up on it cos it can take that long for your skin to adjust.

bellabelly · 17/04/2009 13:52

Thank you so much for this thread - haven't managed to get hold of castor oil yet but have been using evening primrose oil and my blackheads and pimples are clearing up a treat. Still seems a bit weird using oil but is def working for me.

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 15:20

god I am really fed up this isn't working for me - should I try neat castor oil?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/04/2009 15:27

Greensleeves I wonder if you are using too much castor? Everything I have read suggests a maximum of 30% castor for very oily skin.

What is the rest of your 'routine' - creams etc?

everGreensleeves · 17/04/2009 15:28

soap and water with occasional exfoliating scrub

toffeeapple · 17/04/2009 16:57

I think I might try neat Castor oil, or a bigger percentage. I saw on another website that someone with greasy skin was using 80%castor and 20% of whatever (sunflower I think)

whoingodsnameami · 17/04/2009 17:08

Ok I am getting good results with this method, but after a couple of minutes of massaging I start to feel gritty bits on my face, is that all the crap comeing out?

whoingodsnameami · 17/04/2009 17:08

coming, even.

mammya · 17/04/2009 17:29

Yes, I get the gritty bits too, I assume it must be the crap coming out. Good in a kind of way!

OP posts:
toffeeapple · 17/04/2009 17:33

Maybe the oil gets my face so soft that the skin is collapsing, hence the larger pores.
