Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

batters - sympathy re dd. Mine is in bed at the mo with stomach ache and headache but I really think it would be truer to just say she's knackered and under pressure.

Will await the trouser news ureb. And I agree, wahey for flexible employers. I should be There and I'm obviously not, I'm Here.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 16/10/2008 10:04

batters, sorry about your dd. I am dreading the whole secondary school thing. It seems to be so stressful for everyone.

L&S - dd is full of cold too - she woke up 3 nights ago completely unable to breathe - wheezing, gasping for breath. Once she'd calmed down she was ok, but I knew we were in for a cough/cold as this is what she does then. Hope you're all feeling better soon. x

WideWebWitch · 16/10/2008 12:37

Hello my lovelies!

Saggars, sorry your chick is under pressure too, hope she feels better soon. I'll let you off the spf in this weather I reckon. I already use v v cheap cream out of habit, Astral, it's about 2p.

Oh Batters, your poor dd, sympathy, my ds is knackered too, I do feel for them. Do you reckon your dp is reading too much news? The front pages are all v v depressing atm and I would expect almost anyone reading them to be panicking.

Issy, oh good luck for the op. It does sound as if not having early enough nights is your challenge, does that sound right? I feel so much better for early nights, I know I do. The night before last it was midnight AND wine and I didn't half know it yesterday. Wheras last night was 10.30 and I am sprightly and chipper today as a result.

Ts, sorry to hear about your dd too.

Ureb at pt flexible...

MrsJC, hope you feel better soon too. It is in DofN's list but isn;t booze! Apparently booze and fags both do well in a recesssion.
DofN, happy birthday to her for tomorrow, ah, 7 is a nice age.

Verde, living on chocolate? Go to the back of the class!

FIS too late, I read it and I agree. Someone threw themselves under a train at Euston last week when dh was in London AND I was the other side of London and he didn't get back to relieve our lovely woman who has the children after school and I'd have killed them had I got my hands on them (and if they hadn't already killed themselves, obv). Sorry for black humour but I kwym so totally, completely. We are ALL knackered. it's never ending. I sat down properly at 8.15 last night having left the house at 7am and arrived home at half six. Thankfully we can at least get a cleaner again now and I;m go=ing to go for 3 x a week to include keeping on top of the washing etc. It's an absolute nightmare isn't it? But hey, another six months and I might be able to take some time off, and I am having half term off.
DofN, you were SO right about it being good to do something easy this past couple of months, I've thought of your post ont hat many a time since, it has made a huge difference to the stress. but a new contract means proving myself and having to work hard to impress people all over again . Never mind, I'll just keep thinkig of the CASH

L&S, sorry to hear of cold/spot combo, hope both are gorn soon

Camm your chocs sound lovely!

Claudiashif, hoep your hair appt was good

lol at these useless copper and firemen dhs too.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 16/10/2008 12:44

Sorry if I missed anyone btw, not intentional.

I am very happy today as

a) I have my contract
b) I have half term off
c) I will get some great new experience
d) I can get a cleaner again
e) I have organised dd's birthday party ALREADY. It is at the end of November. I am impressed with myself
f) I have hardly any work to do so can come here, look for hotels for half term (we're thinkig of 2 nights away all 4 of us)
g) ds's 11+ is over
h) It is lovely and cold and clear

and I had a good nights sleep last night although I did eat pizza, which is not allowed and I did have ONE glass of red wine so not too terrible.

And I just got interrupted with boring work call so no idea what I was going to put then!

Oh, I know! I have dinner with a dodgy woman on Friday and another dodgy woman coming to stay with me soon and only another FOUR DAYS of doing this 4.5 hr commute! As I am working from home on Mon and Tues next week and leaving next Friday. Happy days!

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 16/10/2008 16:42

Dd seems a lot better today, phew.

Www - glad you are so happy! I am having coffee with beety tomorrow which will be lovely. x

chutneymary · 16/10/2008 19:47

Just looking in.... hope all are well and bootcamptastic. Alas we are not either here - DD1 has pneumonia and was really bad over the weekend but a bit better now. DD2 has a bad smoker's cough but otherwise OK. Lack of bootcamptastic is me - I can't bring myself to confess what has passed my lips over the past week or so but suffice it to say it ain#t pretty and neither am I as a result. Even maternity jeans are tight .

I have only 6 weeks to go so need to get a grip. Apologies for watching the wagon rattle off without me whilst I lie in the dust eating cake. I'll try to keep up reading all your lovely posts even if I can't post much myself.

Hope everyone is well, unstressed and high on happiness. ONly 1 day to the weekend

IotasCat · 16/10/2008 19:50

It must be the nip in the air tonight but I am on a carb fest - have just eaten one of the kids' jam donughts and 2 thivh slices of fresh bred an butter.

Congrats on getting job WWW

IotasCat · 16/10/2008 19:51

that would be thick slices of bread and butter - oops butterfingers

Marina · 16/10/2008 21:48

IotasCat, are you turning into a LOLCAT? "Bred" indeed.
Work has been hectic (we are now the proud owners of a fabulous computer system that, er, I am too old and dim to work properly, but I'm getting there...) and still have major concerns about a friend's wellbeing that are preoccupying me - and so, that, my friends, explains my rubbishness at bootcamp . Yes it does.
You will see a new, Hi-NRG Marina spring into action after half-term. For now I'm here for the craic and to keep an eye on the poorly ones.
Lots been going on here! Congrats www, and arfishy too, and yes, foxy, don't work full-time if you can wangle it.
Hope the surgery has gone OK Issy and your schnozzle clears up without needing it saggars.
Sounds like half-term cannot come quickly enough for all these tired and below-par youngsters dd has had a scarily obvious allergic reaction to some party face paint and is still not quite right, although it has not affected her ability to bark instructions.

Blu · 16/10/2008 21:55

Hooray for contracts and school decisions and 11-pluses being over, and booooo to face paint and bugs and viruses and hideous work problems.....

I have consigned myself to the Bootcamp cooler as have been existing on hospital sandwiches, random carrion from the fridge and anything without cold pasta or sweetcorn from the tesco 'snacking' chiller - yeeeeuk. And wine.

BUT this w/e I am starting my gym habit again, and I will be here properly!

Marina · 16/10/2008 21:58

Hospital sandwiches blu? You or ds?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/10/2008 21:59

Blu - I have missed that you've been hospital bound again. Is BoyBlu bearing up?

Blu · 16/10/2008 22:05

He's been in this week having two of the four rings of pins removed.
Should be a lot less troublesome than having them put IN, but he's been v sore and stiff - he hasn't bent his knee for two months and is still only managing a tiny little bend. Also he was v upset about going in as he had such a bad experience with the anaesthetic last time. Luckily our consutant is very very senstive about these things, and was stomping about changing the list order to ensure that Ds got the most experienced, re-assuring anaesthetist. Also, I was being x-raye and referred to consultant who ascertained that my finger was broken back on August, and needs tricky surgery torepair, but it can wait til DS's procedure is over. We're getting by - minute by minute.

Blu · 16/10/2008 22:07

Sorry - I'm mainly one big me-me-me moan atm!

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 16/10/2008 22:07

L&S - illness and moving and exDPs, it will all get better. Wishing you both speedy recoveries.

www - I like your positive post.

arf arf at "random carrion" and "Astral, it's about 2p".

DD1 had lovely birthday, up nice and early to open family presents before school, she had school swimming this afternoon so I took DD2 & DS2 to watch. Cooked her favourite duck & pancakes and prawn & veg noodles for dinner followed by an ice-cream cake (she's allergic to egg and hates proper cake). And I had a lovely big hug with her at bedtime. I so often have my arms full of the younger DCs that I think she gets a raw deal. New resolution: hug DD1 more often.

Lots of water, lots of carrots (!) and lots of moisturising.

Marina · 16/10/2008 22:09

I, er, think you're entitled in the circs Blu!
Glad the op is behind you at least and good luck with getting his knee to bend better
And a very happy belated birthday to your dd1 Duchess

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 16/10/2008 22:11

blu - glad you're getting by. Thank heavens you have a good consultant to help DS through these procedures. And agree, yeeeuk to cold pasta & sweetcorn.

moonshine · 16/10/2008 22:29

Well done to you WWW - at the risk of a crap use mixing of metaphors, hope the cushion of cash sugars your 6am pill.

And sympathies to ill dcs - it has felt like a long half-term here too (although we have thus far escaped with only 2 days of illness).

Re: work - I could never contemplate ft; I can barely cope with pt work as I'm always rushing to or from it trying to fit in home and school obligations and duties (and these usually double at least in th elead up to Christmas). But I am lucky in that it is flexible, although I am soooo bored atm and even worse I keep passing a cupboard which has the sign 'Stationary' on it and am always so tempted to either correct it or write a sarcastic message (and this in an office which has several subs and writers!). But I already have a reputation for being a bit of a pedant.

Lol have never been called a fitness freak (just one part of that statement) - I just aspire to it, but I did drag my dodgy leg to the gym again today because I cannot go for a while now and am panicking at not being able to 'work off' my weekend wine (not that it ever seems to make difference).

Still, hooray for Friday.

moonshine · 16/10/2008 22:30

Not such a pedant that I can post properly on here though .

moonshine · 16/10/2008 22:36

Oh have just caught up with the remainder of the posts - best wishes to little Blu Boy!

unknownrebelbang · 16/10/2008 22:47

muchio sympathy boyblu/blu. So many poorly chicks on this thread. This half-term is really long, isn't it? which doesn't help.

Happy birthday DuchessDD. mmmmm to ice-cream cake.

Good news about the clear scan, MrsJC.

DD's senior school sounds perfick Batters, hope DP sees sense soon.

Hope everything goes well with the op, Issy.

The Aldi face cream is supposed to be very good, isn't it?

DS1 has lost his paper-round, but tbh it had become a pita, so his wage aside, sighs of relief all round.

DS3 was confirmed last night. And I only had three comments from the congregation informing me that I'm now the only member of the family not yet confirmed, lol, cos of course I hadn't realised . Drove me to drink it did (well that's my excuse, and I'm sticking with it!)

Moroseness is banished from the rebel household. I have one more day of work, then I'm off for at least a week, disappearing to south Wales on Monday for a few days R&R with a friend (and her 5 month old son, eeek). Really looking forward to it, and the boys are looking forward to a "lads' week" at home with Dad.

WideWebWitch · 17/10/2008 10:19

Omg, and POOR dd Chutney, that sounds rough. But lol at "it aint pretty and neither am I" - same here! In fact we are ALL BEING CRAP by the look of it, hahaha! Oh well, y'know, we're allowed to sometimes let ourselves off the hook when times are stressful, as they are/have been for many of us

Oh and Marina, poor dd too and at her still being able to bark instructions, bless her.

Oh no re your broken finger Blu and poor boyBlu, it all sounds rough. But, tell me off for this if you like, but don't you tihnk your finger should be looked at sooner? I understand, I cancelled a counselling session this morning because it was just yet one more thing to fit in and I haven't got time. And then I felt and because it's a bloody silly state of affairs when I haven't got time for some counselling to sort out how I deal with my evil family isn;t it? But dh was reassuring on phone and I feel better now, half term can't come soon enough. Thank goodness work is easy peasy atm because actually I am using lots of work time to do all this tedious domestic stuff (have another window open typing a list of all cleaning to be done in our house, at request of new cleaner who starts on Monday, hurrah!)

DofN, ah, that sounds like a lovely birthday, bless her abd that's a great resolution. I really didn't want to leave my 2 this morning, I went to kiss them and they were sleepy and warm and I just wanted to get back into bed with them, sleepy warm cuddly children are LOVELY aren't they?

Moonshine, can't you just re type a notice and replace it? Awful! . lol at freak, ha ha ha.

Ureb, enjoy Wales, ooh bet that'll be lovely, all misty and autumnal, gorgeous!
